Scoring is your best defense. But in terms of individually, you want to anticipate your opponent's move while attacking. This is the hardest to achieve, but the result is very rewarding.

If you want a serious and eleborate anwser, you might want to tell us more about; how do you want to play, what teams do you play etc. There is no 'best tactic', it all depends on tweaking the formation the way it suits your play!

thank you :)

ok... first... I dont know why... But I cant see really effective using R2 + X when defending when I play to a friend.... I know its me..... but I receive lot of goals on 1vs1(goalkeeper-opponent) situations when I try to use R2 + X

Also... I know Im doing bad intercepting balls..

And then I receive most of the goals from the sidelines... cross to the penalty area... and goal.

Sorry for my english... I read the forum... But i really appreciate help from good players.

What formation do you play now? Usually, if you concede a lot of goals by 1v1s and you are not very expierenced, you should play more defensive. Try playing 451. Something like this

------------CF------------

---------AM---------------

LM---------------------RM

--------DM----DM---------

---LB---CB----CB-----RB---

It's always a good idea to put a player with 'Enforcer' (Like de Jong, v Bommel, Cambiasso) as a DM. That helps your defence a lot. Defending with R2 and X requires training. So practice it a lot and after a while you will learn the trick.I think there is trainings option to help you learn defending. You can try that as well. R2 and X really helps to prevent wingers giving crosses from the sides, so it's important you learn this style of defence.

Hope this helps..

Don't listen to him, he doesn't have an AMF. Trust me, you'll need an AMF because its probably the most important position in soccer. An AMF supports your attackers and it also tracks back to slow down/counter (if you steal the ball) your opponent.

If you ever play real soccer, the AMF is the most 'man on ball' position, thats why its usually number 8. Gerrard and Kaka both wear the number 8 and in the game it is why you'll need an attacking midfielder.

Lastly, if you try playing with the default roster you'll notice Ettori is also number 8 and if you ask anyone who they want to be the best they'll say Ettori.

and another question...
when you say "R2 and X really helps to prevent wingers giving crosses from the sides"

whats the idea ? to be facing the opponent ?... or... aside the opponent ?

Only problem with this is that the attacker can run past you as R2 slows you down. In those situations I prefer to press square

True! I do the R2 X when the opponent is close to the backline. It works quite well for me (can't u use R1, R2 and X, or is this useless?)

Btw, when do you guys use R2+Square? What exactly is this for?

It's auto defend - the CPU does it for you. The positioning and timing, you name it, its automatic. And players can run whilst jockeying unlike R2 and X and R1 + R2 + X is useless
