What is the best Final Fantasy Ever?

what a question!!!

god it changes all the time for me, one minute its FF7 then FF8, i would prob say FF8

i know FF7 is the best really but i have better memories of ff8 because when i first played FF7 i had no idea what the game was about, but when i got FF8 i new exactly what it was like.

This is a really though question, but i loved IX the most. It had absolutely everything, the story - superb, the graphics - brilliant and the characters were out of this world.

its not that these things were not good in the other final fantasies - except ffx which was lacking story and characters - its just they were done the best in ffix.

For me ffix is the most memorable of the series, and the reason it is so memorable is because of the characters, but this wouldnt be enough on its own so they put a great story behind it as well.

I thought FFX had a great story and had the stongest love relationship, but the graphics on FFX are unbelievable,my favorite FMV is the one where they land at the wedding and ar sliding down those ropes.

Very hard to see past Final Fantasy 7, the story was so imersing, it lasted so long, it had the fun little side games, like that arcade, breeding chocobos. but the whole idea of an RPG is the story. that's why it got my vote!

Although like you said Giggsy, i struggled terribly to pick it up at first as i was a tad younger.
no joke, it took me AT LEAST 5 HOURS to figure out the cross dressing bit at the wallmart. i found that you had to do everything in an exact order to progress!!
but past that it was plain sailing.......;)

i still like to play all my old RPG's, Suikoden 1+2, FF7, Wild Arms 1+2 etc.... actually i haven't replayed FF7 in ages, might buy it again as mine was playing up last time!
:)

i probably wont get it, and if i do, it will be much later than release. i only just got Suikoden 3 (import) and i haven't completed FFX yet. got about 10 hours in, got stuck on a boss and lost interest a little, then my Ps2 broke, then i got PES 3, Smackdown 5, Fifa 2004, Suikoden 3 and Tony Hawk's Underground . so it kinda got pushed down the queue, oh well, it's time will come! ;)

Great story? i don't know if we were playing the smae ffx here. I wont ruin the plot for those who havent played it yet, but it wasnt particulary good, never mind great, sorry just my opinion

SPOILERS FOR FFX

for example this Sin's only reason for destroying the world is cos its following tidus - meaningless. Yu-yevon just wants death. Its not really ffvii/viii or ix. The lack of a bad guy really ruined the game for me, the nearest to one was seymour.

END SPOILERS

Well the love relationship is probably the strongest, but ffviii had quite a strong love relationship as well. Yes the graphics were great and fmvs awesome but it takes more than that to make a game great.

yeah just a bit :D

the reason sin is following tidus is cos its his father.

Yeh i know, but to just destroy the world cos youre following someone is a little poor for a final fantasy storyline.

I also hated the voices on ffx, tidus was annoying, yuna had no emotion, wakka was plain irritating,

auron was the only cool character - storyline and voice and script and development. I would have loved ffx if all the characters had been given as much attention as auron was by the developers and there was alittle more variation in the gameplay.

I mean not just:
1) travel to the temple - normally along a road - boat earlier in the game
2)do cloister of trials
3)get aeon

early on (blitzball town and before) and later on (al bhed Home) in the game were a lot more enjoyable and the story started to kick on from there but in between wasnt particulary memorable

Still a good game though, and not forgetting Yuna who had to die on her pilgrimage, I thought one of the best bits on the game is when u go to Luca for the blitzball tournament, and you are all excited before hand about taking part, that was cool.

Blitzball was hard to get into for me. i found FF8 disappointing aswell!

Is FF X-2 worth getting, haven't read much about it this time :(

yeh, but she didnt die did she.

Agreed on the luca issue as well, that was a really good part of the game.

I think that Square was still trying to get as much profit from FFX as possible by spending all their time on graphics, the same with FFX-2, and not giving the characters the development time they deserved.

I mean, take IX for example, all the characters have amazing story's and great development over the course of the game. As an example i'll take vivi (quite possibly the best character created in any game ever) At the start of the game vivi is just a kid, knows nothing of life, has no family except for a dead grandad, he doesnt fit in because of the way he looks and well is. he meets up with zidane and forms a strong relationship with all the characters. He finds out that he was created by a machine using mist and vows to help kill whoever is responsible for it. And that all in the first few hours of the game. This continues throughout the game with all of the characters, and this fits in nicely with the story line, which is brilliant also, and some of the other characters reasons for being there.

Whereas in FFX, ill take auron (cos he is without a doubt the only good character) who rides Sin into the past to get tidus SPOILERS cos he's dead END SPOILERS and takes him with him to help destroy Sin. Auron's little story merges nicely with the main story of Jecht being Sin. None of the other characters really have that depth.

MattPhilips - What was it that you never liked about ffviii

I Thought Vivi was great as well, that scene on ff9 where he is on the airship and that demon is killing all those dolls, very sad. :(

I thought ff8 was fantastic, I think all the characters on the game were great. Example: all the characters where linked in the past somehow, including Edea the evil sorceress (who later became good).

I think one of the best ever bits in a final fantasy game is on ff8 and the ‘battle of the gardens’ scene where the two gardens do battle, and u rescue riona from the cliff and when u land there is a massive battle going on in the background.

Fantastic

I'm glad you added that last sentence. VII was an extremely easy game, in terms of understanding and actual gameplay. Still a lovely game, of course, but being only around 9 when I first played the title, I didn't realise how simple it actually was.

What do you mean by simple, because some parts of ffvii where complicated, the life stream, cloud actually being a genetically modified thing, with zacks memories implanted, i didnt get all of that first time through, i was quite young the first time i played it though.
