Best tactics, formation?

Ive been online for about a week now and im wondering what the more experienced players think are the best tactics/formation to use

I started with my usual 3-5-2 and wasnt doing great, switched 2 a 4-4-2 with diamond midfield and doing better but thers still room for improvement.

Also, how does the hosting work? dont really understand who hosts what half or why, im on ps2 btw
