You can on the xbox though. This november W11/PES 4 should be coming to the xbox and it should be online.We actually have a PES4 online topic currently.

Also, The ps2 online called "network play" is on Dial-up, unlike Xbox Live, which is on Broadband, so the Ps2 wont be able to handly the quickness of the conections and gameplay!!

errr, PS2 uses broadband, not dial up

99.999% certain but i dont think you will be able to play online with a mod chip in ya xbox!
