PES 2010 is a great game. I thought, with some tweaks, it could very well become the best ever football game on next gen consoles.

That's why I set out to make those tweaks myself. I play PES 2010 on my 120 GB slim PS3 on a 40" HDTV set to 720p, just to put things in perspective. Oh yes, I play 30min and 20 min matches and strictly no less than that. Matches of longer duration are where the game really blossoms beautifully.

When I set out editing player abilities, I had certain things in mind.

1. I wanted the pace of a game to be bit slower.
2. I wanted the player turns and movements to be a bit natural.
3. I wanted the opponent AI to challenge me.
4. I wanted the keepers to be a bit more competent
5. I wanted the superstars to threaten me like their real life counterparts
6. I wanted the final output to retain the essence of PES

In order to achieve the above, I did the below:

Reduce top speed by 10 points
Reduce dribble speed by 10 points
Reduce short passing speed by 10 points
Reduce agility by 10 points
Increase tenacity by 10 points
Increase teamwork by 10 points
Improve goalkeeper agility and keeper skills

Top speed is the 'off the ball' pace and dribble speed is the 'on the ball' pace. So if you want to reduce the pace of the game, you need to reduce both. I reduced 10 points and not more because if I reduce more the game could get a bit dull. We need to retain the joy, spirit and adventure of PES. In order to keep the 'PESness' there, I just reduced it by 10 points, after extensive testing. The short passing speed also needed to be reduced as it was ping-ponging all over the pitch. A reduction of 10 points make the ball roll very nicely and realistically.

The agility value had to be reduced as well because the animations did not really support some agility values. The player movements and turn looked very jerky and stuttered because of lack of animations. I just reduced 10 points of agility to strike a balance. This is not across the board because some of the special moves are determined by the agility values. For instance, you won't be able to do an elastico unless your agility value is over 85. So these things are considered while adjusting these values.

The tenacity has been increased so that your opponent AI can continue to challenge you for long periods of time. Also, they respond better when they are down. Teamwork increase means your opponent AI would put out some nice moves and attack you better as a unit. Basically, these are two attributes that helps the opponent AI than the human players. For goalkeepers, I've just got the agility value of the goal keepers to the 80s so that they make more reflex saves and second saves. The keeper skills are increased by 5 points for most of the keepers.

The result is awesome. I don't want to boast here. I'm not the first one to edit player value nor would be the last. This is no original solution of a genius. I just had the time and patience to do this. I've got a fantastic result and I want to share this with you guys. After the tweaks, PES 2010 is just simply incredible. You just can't stop playing.

All these changes have been done only for the below teams:

Chelsea
Man Utd
Liverpool
Arsenal
Man City
Tottenham
Inter
Juventus
Milan
Fiorentina
Roma
Barcelona
Real Madrid
Valencia
Sevilla
Atletico Madrid
Villareal
Bayern Munich
Marseille
Lyon
England
Germany
Italy
France
Netherlands
Spain
Brazil
Argentina

Here is the link to my option file. Cheers and happy football gaming!

All these were manually and painfully edited. No option file editors were used. So please show some mercy when you slag me. Do keep a back up of your file and apply this option file, which by the way has all the emblems and kits from WENB and JACKWHOBRA. Do play the game and report back here on your experience.

great idea, wouldnt it be easier to use PES editor to globally edit all players?

Thanks mate. There is no PES Editor for PS3 option files. That's why we need to manuall edit player attributes.

Please use the file and provide feedback on how the game plays. Cheers!

Any luck guys? I'm thinking of extending this to more teams after I get some feedback from you guys. Please let me know.

Hey BluChampBlogger, i'm Ono5985 from Fifa forum. I initiated the editing on Fifa10 - thanks to your success on 09 (but quit as it took so damm long).

I know your edits on here work well, because i tried them a few weeks ago with Man City and Arsenal. It worked a treat. I stopped myself from editing everything though as i wanted to wait for the final WENB option file.

Once i have that, i think i'm going to do some more editing and maybe use the Football Manager 10 database to improve some of the players. There are many vastly under-rated players on the game. I realise FM10 isn't the perfect judge for what makes a great player, but it's better than PES10.lol.

Hi

I tried the file out last night and I'm afraid to say I didn't like it very much, it reminded me of the demo!
The keepers are much better though and don't drop half as much! But yeah, overall I prefer the speed and excitement of the original stats...minus the keepers, which I have made better myself

It's unfortunate that this did not suit your preference. This primarily for those people who think the game can still be slowed down. I'm glad before you made any judgment.

And did you say it reminded you of the demo? Say it loud and people will pounce on this option file. Lot of people do want the demo speed gameplay only.

Well so far I've played one full game on 30 mins, I have to say that the feel of the game was amazing. I played as AC Milan against Inter on Pro and won 2-1. In my opinion it has made Pes 2010 even better. Obviously, I will play a few more games with different teams but so far so good. Thank you!

I played 3 games on pro difficulty against various teams in the premiership. I noticed straight away the difference with the AI teams playing against me, now they attack and push forward for long periods in the game and actually scored.

So yes i am very pleased with the work you have done on this and wish to say thankyou, it's now like a different game. I did play with weaker sides against some better teams though, i played as burnley against man city and lost 2-0 and the last match as chelsea against man u which i won 1-0.

In the second half of all matches i had it setup to go all out attack , but i still had trouble getting through to score. Before i used your option file i generally used the same setup and allways won using all out attack.

Overall this is looking very promising and if you decide to do all the teams that would be amazing. On a negative point though my last match saw kaloe running with the ball toward the man u goal , with joe cole about level with me but say 3 yards wider and ferdinand just stood looking like he was trying to make his mind up whether to go for me or joe cole. In the end he did neither, not sure if it is just a bug, but that is the first time i have seen it in the game.

Blu - you're a master at what you do, especially what you did for fifa 09. Now the one issue I have with PES 2010 is the defending. The defenders back off way too easily. I think this is the top priority at hand - everything else doesn't matter until there is a solution for the defending AI.

Sounds about right for Wio Werdinand.

You don't get more realistic than that!! It would be nice to have the defender engage more. I like to be made to work for my goals. Still loving the edits. I'm going to start editing all the teams at the weekend.

Mate, if you're planning to edit, can you use my option file as the base and go on to edit the other teams that I have not edited. That way we all can save a lot of time. What do you say?

I was going to ask your permission to use your OF too. Nice one mate. It will take a few days as I'm limited to how much time I can spend on this. Could you let me know what exactly I need to edit? I looked at your initial post but I just wanted to clarify a few of your settings.

got lost at the bottom of 1st page - any ideas guys? This factor is more important than anything to be honest.
