I'll admit I was playing FIFA 06 long before WE/PES, and WE/PES is by far a superior series because of the amount of different things to do in it. playing FIFA 06, I got sever de ja vu everytime I shot, the same old animations, same type of shots, etc. I have a hard time winning on 3 stars, but I will get better.

If you want to sort this particular issue, try making sure you press a button to queue up a move when you get fouled. You'll soon see that the ref usually only calls fouls when the fouled player had a move queued up (whether it be a pass, shot, dribble, whatever).

Thanks have to admit im usually shooting at the time but will give it a shot, although im not to fond of some of the combonation buttons neccesary for standard play like the super cancel in order to move my damn player in the direction i want or that the computer controlled players on my side will not close down anyone and so the computer controlled side will run towards them with no fear. Thanks for the advise but its a drop in the ocean fraid i rearly play anymore.

he's right about the fouls, its shite the amount of free kicks that get given in a game for nothing. There are cases when ive got the ball but one of the other players on my team, controlled by the AI runs into one of the other teams players.....and they get a free kick for this. No way you can control that by being good at the game......so everyone that gives the usual cuntish reply of "you're just rubbish at the game" should maybe shut up eh?

Yeh, agreed. I'm new as of today, and I was wondering if anyone has the PES5 powerpatch on pc, or just anyone that has a proper patch for PES5 on ps2. I want to know how to get patches onto PES5 ps2 version (not just OFs but title screens n balls etc as well) n if its possible without creating a new copy of the game. Please help asap

u know the reason y defenders r so 'fast' is cuz of shirt grabbing. That's right believe it or not, this has been in the game since Pes4, but they made it harder in Pes5. I've scored some incredible dribbling goals with Giggs and C.Ronaldo on 5* and 6* cpu, in which I'd catch them on a counter and run more than 1/2 the length of the pitch, blowing past defenders 1 by 1. This is not in ML so their speed doesn't develop, and with their default stats, which they're hardly the speediest of players.

The secret? U need a distance at which they can't grab ur shirt. So many ways to gain that advantage. The most effective way is to get them to commit to a tackle by getting close and then sidestepping. Or u can just jog straight at the defender and at the last second go diagonal and he'll blow past them. Remember, :R1: is evil ok, it is not used to dribble. If u hold :R1: u'll get tripped. If u don't, u'll do wonderful things and u can ride tackles and really blow past defenders. Then once u got that space, now is the time for :R1: and they won't catch up. With good dribblers u don't need to keep tapping to send the ball forward, thats only for poor dribblers with good speed.

Go practise it now and u'll see who is at fault. Threads like these make me wanna make a demonstration video of a full match, in which I would consistently perform everything that u guys complain about, and show u the proper way to perform them. How to properly leave defenders in the dust, cross efficiently, win 50/50 balls, overpower the attacker and win the ball without committing fouls.

Would you be able to not make your own players who are controlled by the AI system foul the opposition?

no?

didnt think so

Stormrider, cheers for the advice mate, but if you read my original post thats not the only problem with the game. There are a number of areas of the game that annoy me and i think could be improved. The defenders speed was only a small part of a large problem.

How often does that really happen now? How come I never have a problem with it?

rob I know u mentioned other 'problems' but I have absolutely no problems with none of them which is y I have to say its not the game's fault. I'll try to help u sort them out. A lot has to do with not using the :R1: button. Try to avoid it as much as possible, as it will cause fouls, it will cause bad dribbling and 1st touches.

1st touches are amazing with Ronaldinho, Zidane, and Henry. Don't hold :R1: when u receive the ball and problem solved. Lob thru balls were too cheap in previous versions, so now its not as effective down the middle, but still very effective down the flanks and diagonal balls. Lets say u got a CMF and u have a WF/SMF running down the flank. Aim towards them, then do the lob thru pass but this time don't let go of :triangle:. This ensures u pass to the furthest player. Sometimes u'll send in a perfect ball, sometimes it just goes out, most of the times the defender will have to kick it out, so a deep throw-in for u.

I don't have any problems with stats. Crappy AI players miss the simplest of shots, just like they should. U have foul troubles cuz u r either holding :R1:, :x:, or :square:. Practise winning balls and running side by side without using any of those buttons. U'll c that when u get close, the player will do an auto tackle/steal/etc. Very effective when u have strong defenders as u can easily overpower them and push them around without fouling. Don't steal the ball everytime. Just stick with ur man, block his path, and he'll have no choice but to make a crappy pass. There is only 1 problem with the referee. He has trouble playing advantages but I guess same to be said in real life.

Supposably fast players such as Thierry Henry or Obafemi Martins are outran by unknown 34 year old central defenders regularly??? I definately dont understand this.

The lobbed through ball has very rarely worked for me on this game, the ball is kicked about 30 yards too far in front of the player then picks up speed once it hits the ground. Almost guarenteed to reach the keeper every time.

Player stats appear to count for nothing, mediocre computer controlled players manage to hit the target every time whilst world class human controlled players always appear to just miss the target.
I still think that the lobbed through ball is a huge mistake on the programmers part. It almost always goes directly to the keeper when you try and make one down the middle but when you do it down the sides it's perfect everytime, no matter who makes it.

I also do not like the difficulty settings. Instead of making the opponent play smarter football it is given advantages. I agree that being outrun and outmaneuvered by third grade players when you are controlling someone like Dinho or Henry is extremely unrealistic. Specially when you are already past them and sprinting towards goal and they catch up and trip you from behind and don't get carded for it even if they are the last man. Sometimes any player, no matter how bad, can have a good game but not every fucking time.

Sometimes i feel like going to Japan and bitch slapping their marketing staff. The scum that forces the creative section to not make too many improvements so they don't have to spend a lot and make sure they can sell more when they make the next installment.

Anyway, you cannot judge this game when you have played agaist the COM alone. Playing against a human opponnent is a totally different experience.

I have to admit I do tend to use R1 for chasing attackers down a little much, but how many defenders foul EVERY time they sprint after an attacker?
I avoid using it when attacking, but human controlled defenders just dont seem to be able to match the pace of COM attackers. I think they need to have another look at the mechanics of the game.

And yes it is completely different playing against a mate, the fouls seem to be a little less frequent when playing against a human team, and therefore obviously less frustrating. Is this because there is no COM to be biased for?

You all talk as if the game is perfect.......so i take it you wont bother buying PES6, not much point if there arent any problems what so ever with PES5

I'll defin buy wepes just for collection alone, but from all the talk about faster, easier gameplay and more goals I doubt I'll enjoy it for long and probably will go back to we9. Even if pes5 was perfect, u would still want pes6 for new players and teams no? Many who played we10 are already switching back to pes5 claming we10 is too ez. Could be ur cup of tea i guess.

It happens with every new installment. People always go back and forth and usually end up realizing that the newest version is, naturally, better. They will always look nicer and have cooler animations, so as long as they improve in that aspect and don't lose their overall playability they'll remain succesful.

The game may not be perfect but i think we all have to admit that for whatever reasons, Konami are cheap bastards. I'm not saying this because of the licenses but i imagine that if it wasn't for this, we might have ended up with a game even worse than FIFA. Unless they're just using good old marketing schemes to ensure that they don't make too many improvements in each version so people will buy newer and improved ones everytime they come out...

Right stormrider, I've tried avoiding using R1 for defending and less fouls have occured. However, they are now scoring more goals because my defenders just cant keep up without sprinting.
I'm still getting those stupid bastard challenges of course. The last game I played, Puyol got a straight red for sliding Baros who was through on goal. I was only pressing a directional button when it happened as well

Its funny because I usually play Pro Evo right up to the next game coming out (usually Oct) but I haven't played Pro Evo for ages now and I can't bring myself to play it, so that says a lot for this version me thinks. I used to love it, but I am not that interested anymore.

I dont need it to be easy, i just need it to play properly. I didnt say i cant win, i just get annoyed by faults when ive paid quite a bit of money for a game.

All games are going to have faults here and there. Pro Evo's ones just keep popping up on a regular basis. But usually if programmers try fixing one fault, another appears. There is no way to please everyone, but I'm sure eventually, these will only be minor faults that annoy a few critical people. You just have to ask yourself which game would you pay money for in the future: Pro Evo with odd faults, or FIFA with poor gameplay?
To be honest, I was quite angry with Pro Evo 5's difficulty with the shirt pulling, but when I played FIFA 06, I did not enjoy it one bit. In my opinion, PES is still the best football game series around, and will be better than FIFA (remember this is only my opinon) for several more games at least. To me, FIFA's last good game was FIFA 2003. Pro Evo 5 may have only been a dip in the series, so I'd stick with it and all future Pro Evo games.
