I move around, but I don't go sprinting around corners, because that's asking to be killed. Although, the last time I played (last week) I was pretty shit and died anyway.

I'd come on and play, but I need to do a good amount of coursework first. I say that, yet I'm on here. Hmmm...

People throw the word camping around so much it seems they are unaware of what it means, staying still/using a sniper rifle does not constitute camping. Furthermore camping isn't inherently bad, when defending a position in the tactical games there's nothing wrong with camping.

If you want to run and gun fine but if you're too shit to do it without getting picked off the problem lies with you.

For me, camping is if you stay in a corner with a heartbeat sensor, waiting for some knobbo to run by. A lot of people don't seem to like folk hanging about on the cranes, picking people off, but it's a spot that is well in the open and any scoped gun should be able to take them down.

I don't get any abuse, even though I'm a sniper, because there is a difference between controlling an area of a map and hiding at choke points. For me, I rarely see campers dominate games - they might get a few kills but I usually end up grabbing a greater amount of kills from traditional sniping.

Also if people send you abuse then that's when you reap in pubbie tears for sustenance.

Finally sat down and played the game last night for the first time. Did a few missions first, just to acquaint myself and then delved into online with a couple of mates.

First game was notoriously poor, although I managed to get a few kills (I think I had about 7 kills vs. 12 deaths), finishing mid-table or so.

Second game I racked up 14 kills to only 5 deaths, which was a lot better.

I then switched parties and played with a few mates who are better and the standard was higher. Still held my own to an extent, getting 5-8 kills per game and dying around 7-10 times per game. Given how shit I was at WaW, this constitutes a good first session for me.

Found it a lot easier to get into straight-off the-bat than WaW, and a lot more fun. I also think the maps are designed in a way that excessive campers are not as annoying and can be dealt with as long as your tactics are right.

I'm only on the second mission. I'll play a few more later before trying out the online mode. Anyone of you playing around 3 or 4 PM, UK time?

Add me up on PSN: skullverine

I'll try my best to describe why camping is so hated.

I think it stemmed from CoD4, especially the hardcore matches. Remember that there were no kill cams on HC matches in CoD4 (unsure if there is in MW2), so people could set up camp in a faraway corner, and easily pick off people. There'd be no map, so they wouldn't show up as a red dot, unless someone had a UAV on the go.

Now that they've introduced a silencer for the sniper and the tactical insertion, campers will have a field day.

I ocassionally snipe (love the thermal), but I tend to take 2 or 3 people out from one spot then move to the next (as if they're anything like me they'll be after my blood). I agree that in some cases, ie. you're tactically trying to defend something, then "camping" is necessary.

You'll always find someone has something negative to say about anything, for example random grenades, n00b tubes etc, but if you find something that works for you, stick to it!

At the end of the day it's a game. You can't complain (well of course you can, but you can't take it to heart) about snipers, grenades, grenade launchers etc.. I'm sure people love it when they have a sniper on thier team saving thier ass at times. If they're annoying you stay away from where you get killed or figure out a way to kill them back/annoy them. If that fails, leave the game for a different group of players.

ps. I'm not one of those snipers. I've tried, god knows I have, but I am pure muck with the sniper rifle.

I played 3 team deathmatches. Won once and lost twice. I only managed to get 4 killstreaks. My kill-death ratio is also poor. I managed a positive kill-death ratio once.

I think I'm on level 4 at the moment.

I can definitely see how it would be difficult for anybody only starting recently, as the majority of people you're up against have much better weapons and perks and see you as an easy target. I think I'm at level 40 now, had a few good games today and a few shockers. Inconsistancy is my biggest fault.

Most of my deaths were done by snipers and the weapon with heartbeat sensor. :/

The respawns are god awful, the number of times you kill someone and are dead again before you've even had a chance to reload and move is unreal. I honestly killed someone only for them to respawn looking at me from behind with no Tactical Insertion on Terminal. Its a fucking big map, theres no need for that kind of thing.

Yeah that heartbeat sensor thing is such a kick in the balls. I can't stand getting killed by that. As soon as you turn a corner they're already shooting at you practically. Anytime somebody kills me more than twice by it I just change to my class where I don't show up on it.

Ninja is my third perk now, so I don't have to worry about heartbeat sensors.

Original?, I got screwed twice with a shit team! You'd think some would help contribute to the score with some positive kill/death ratio, but no. Even in the penultimate game, it was your 6 against my 3 (I guess the other 3 guys fucked off) and although I died a lot, I still got to steal some kills, so I ended up with 1 more death than kill, but the two other guys on my team just kept dying and not taking any kills at all! Terrible!

You destroyed me in Estate. Couldn't take a piss in the bushes, without you seeing!

Camping has been around a lot longer and people have moaned continuously and erroneously about it long before CoD4.The term camping used to be defined as staying in an obscure place and picking off people as they went by, often these people didn't know you could get into that position. Now, however, every whiney eleven year old who balls are yet to drop complain about campers every time they die. Just because you were shot by someone out of a window it does not mean they were camping. Hell by traditional terms it can't be camping.

Silencing your sniper rifle drastically reduces it's effectiveness, meaning you have to double tap people for them to go down. Doing this at range with a sniper rifle can be difficult. Tactical Insertion is far less useful than it would first seem and it comes at a high cost that for me means it's not worthwhile.

In any case, in any game with the killcam on people are foolish to be camping anyway and those who are killed have plenty of chance to return the favour.

Grenade launchers and random grenades are far more annoying than being caught by a sniper.

The respawns are god awful, the number of times you kill someone and are dead again before you've even had a chance to reload and move is unreal. This is a real issue, I've had too many people respawning directly behind me for no legitimate reason. This is a death sentence if I have my sniper rifle in my hands, I'm decent with it at short range but 5-10 paces is asking a bit much. My other issue is being respawned in the middle of nowhere when there is air support, I don't mind being spawned outside but if I have thirty seconds to a minute of running to get to a safe point when there's a harrier in the air... I might as well not bother.

You did get lumped with some shit players... one of your team mates ran out, saw me and stopped dead in the middle of nowhere... then he stayed there after I'd blown his head off his shoulders. This wasn't the first time I'd tagged him, he was a high rank... you think he'd know better. On the other hand you didn't have to put up with imbeciles robbing your killstreak rewards.

Yeah, I remember getting you a few times from long range in Estate (note: I wasn't camping in the house! Just to allay any fears of all those camper haters!) but you had an annoying habit of stumbling upon me while I was picking off someone else... particularly at the end of that game. I won't mention Scrapyard as it's a cancerous level.

Haha. Your buddy, The Answer. I guess he thinks what's yours is his and what's his is... well his. He was one of the two that was on my team when we got slaughtered. Simply put - he sucks.

I watched some of the killcams from your killings. I couldn't really learn much from them, as it wasn't the same deaths over and over again. It was just a case of me being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Especially with you, as I don't think I've ever escaped death, once I'm in your sights.

Scrapyard is a lovely map. I can't seem to do much wrong there, so I got to love it. On that map tonight, I was called for sentry outside off a building, near the door. An enemy came at the door and began to shoot, he hit me a few times, but I had time to lie on the flat on the floor behind the box, collect it, it disappeared, I got back up and without moving my gun left or right, I murdered the poor soul.

My quick views on camping; I've never cared if a sniper "camped", as it's not a gun where you're exactly going to run around and get kills. Most of the smart ones move when they don't think it's safe anymore.

Sometimes I feel like the scummiest kind of COD player, but there is no better feeling in COD than acting like a (legitimate) cunt. For instance, in COD4 I took the same player down seven times in a row where I was sat at the top of the stairs at the bridge in Wetwork and waited for him to just angrily run at me over and over again. Now although it probably technically falls under camping, when you know that someone is gunning for your blood and will try the same shit over and over again - to no avail - then that is when the game is at its most hillarious.

Also me vs Original is kind of like the Astra Diesel race in Hot Fuzz, one of us may have the upper hand in some games but it is inevitable that the other will grab a few revenge kills just to piss on their parade. It's almost impossible for me to put together a decent killstreak against him because we're essentially the same player, scoping out the spots that we would use ourselves.

I've now adapted the Blade Runner class (Lightweight, Marathon and something else) and I am finding that it is just fantastic in Capture the Flag (CTF crew represent). People genuinely shit their pants when they see you coming because it's like Usain Bolt running at you with a knife.

Something else to look out for when you get into the level 60's is the model 1887 shotgun, that thing is fantastic. I've only nabbed a few kills with it yet but going akimbo with that is meant to be great fun.

Prestiging will be a hard choice for me. I want to be able to use the AK for a bit and it will be a bit of a chore having to regain some of the quirky classes I've started experimenting with.

Great game, though.

edit: I've been trawling through the stats and interestingly I seem to have a very similar kill/death ratio to either Joel or Jin, and I also share an accuracy rating with them. Kind of interesting as we are completely different types of players.

edit 2: I have to blow my own trumpet here for one of the CTF games we had earlier. Another 7:0 thrashing at Terminal, my personal highlight being retrieving the enemy flag, running to our base, running back to the enemy base to kill their flag carrier, return our flag and managing to run back and capture the flag 2 seconds before half time.

I also managed to steal a capture roughly 0.2 seconds before halftime in Scrapyard, a game we were winning until I had to answer the door with a minute to go. Upon my return I saw that we had lost by 1 - the blame lies entirely with Original and I expect him to end his life to save face.

When do you unlock the heartbeat sensor? And which class doesn't show up on it?

It should tell you by pressing square on the attachment. Usually you'll have to kill a certain number of people using the silencer attachment.

I just went ahead and done it tonight, to be fair its my brothers account so it was his choice, I just use it out of laziness and convenience. The AK-47 is a very nice weapon and as you mentioned I'd just found myself getting used to some classes I was using but guess thats all down the pan now.
