Ok i am looking to upgrade my graphics card, i recently got an nvidia 5200 PCI 256mb to upgrade from my intergrated on-board card. It is miles better than that but now i want one which is alot better, my motherboard can only support PCI and PCI express cards, but i have quite a low budget of about £50-60 and £70 being my limit. i basically wanna get a card which is alot better than the current one i have, evn tho i can play pes4 on medum detail and 1280x1024 res the graphics aren't amazing and evn tho it plays quite smooth i want it smoother! ;) so can someone suggest a card that is good or a site? remember i can't get AGP cards.

Cheers Guys :)

EDIT: is this card decent? recomended to be cheap and a good card by a friend.

hmm.. i dont know where to buy anything in the UK, but i would be recommending that you look at the 6600GT although might be slightly out of budget a quality card..

if u can recommend me a good website to have a look at vid cards i'll have a look for ya.. feel free to add me to MSN ([email protected]) and we can chat on that to find u something good if ya like...

To be honest, I dont think you could get much better card than your current for £70, atleast not PCI express. As 101st mentioned, 6600GT is the best price/quality choice for PCI express mobos, but it costs twice your budget. Unless the prices are much cheaper in UK...

If you buy a cheap card now, you'll probably just have to get another one in around a year's time.

I bought a nVIDIA GeForce 6800GT card for £260 and it kicks ass.

believe me i would love to get one of them, but tbh i am not a massive pc gamer, i play EVE online, pes4 and FM2005 eve is fine on my current athough the graphics could be smoother and pe4 runs on high everything but again the graphics could be smoother and there is a teeny-weeny bit of slowdown, the card i mention above i believe is a decent card that would out perform my current by a mile and would slso work well with alot of games.

we can recommend cards to you all day long, but what it comes down to is how much money you are looking to spend

i'd think a ~5200 or an ati ~9700+ would be fine for this game
problem is how long do you want it to last before you need to post this topic again...

Ctrl, when do you reckon I'll need to buy a new card?

Same question from me :)

btw zyg...can u run pes4 on full everything with great graphics and speed? gives me an indication on how mine will perform seeing as tho its only 1-2 generations behind yours.

it isn't any generations behind!
It is the same generation, just a lower spec ;)
and it'll be fine, assuming you actually do have a PCI-E board.

intel boards are notorious for putting integrated everything on them

as for gig/zyg's inquiries, you guys will be fine with your cards for some time. I generally follow a rule of thumb for video card purchases that goes something like...

My version of card + 2 more new versions, then buy. If I'm looking at a card and its only one step up, I cant cost justify it to myself to get it, so I usually skip a version in between purchases...and thats worked out great for me so far.

I usually follow a 'at least 1ghz more' for the processor upgrades as well.

And for RAM you just have to monitor your usage, and go from there, but I usually double when I start getting high ram usage on a box.

first of all.. i would never benchmark on PES4, download a 3rd party benchmarker such as 3d mark or aqua mark..

giggsy you'll be fine mate.. that is a great card.. and i am looking at getting 2 of them and running it in SLI configuration.. i am too poor to get 2 of Zyg's card although that would be ultimate...

i agree with this one too.. and with RAM, at the moment it is 1gig min.. and with the next OS that Microsoft release it will prolly be 1.5min.. thats normally how it goes..

Christmas 02 i purchased a Radeon 9700 standard for AU$530 = Approx £210, and at the time it was the 2nd best card availible.. there was a gap a little smaller than the gap between giggsys and zygs cards.. and i am only now.. thinking about looking at an upgrade in atleast 6 months.. so that will 30 months on the same video card.. and everything still running perfectly (cept for the odd framing in HL2, but thats to be expected with HL2)

so yea... with computers (normally) it is the more you spend the more u get...
