Brit living in USA:
I now use a US PS2, I want to buy&use latest WE8 from Japan - how do I go about adapting my USA PS2 hard drive to play imported games from Japan??? The forums are a mess of useless posts about peoples minor issues, therefore anybody's help on this more complicated matter is much appreciated.

Same problem I had mate, because of the language barrier, the only way to play it, and understand how to get through the menus, is to patch the game with the menus translated into English (some poor bastard's already done the work though) and here's what you need (this requires a bit of ingenuity):

-Japanese Winning Eleven 8
-Swap Magic & slide card (Swap magic allows you to boot your PS2 using patches, import games, etc. and the slide card is needed to use it, about $35-40 on the web)
-Patch file w/ english translation (unless you speak japanese) (you can find some under file downloads on this site)
-Patch utility (you can find some under file downloads on this site)
-DVD-reader/CD-writer on your PC

Under the editing forums, is a run down of how to patch your Winning Eleven 8 DVD. (search for : How to patch) (Basically you need to copy some files from the game DVD to your PC, follow the process in the instructions to use the patch utility to package it up and burn the patch and the files you now have on your PC to a CD-R. Swap magic allows you to boot using the CD-R and then you can play WE8.) A bit long and wayward but unless you have a Euro PS2 and can wait till the second half of October, there's no other way to play WE8/PES4 right now cause the Yanks won't get it until March 2005.

Says the man who opens 2 identical threads :D

To play WE8 you need to either chip your PS2 or use a Slide Card or a Flip Top Lid. Once you're playing the game, you'll be ready to patch it - go to the General Editing section and read the sticky threads and you'll be fine with that.
