THE NEW GUIDE TO PLAYSTATION 2 CD-2-MEM



1. Introduction;



I began researching how to upload saves through my interest in the Winning eleven soccer series. The aim of this guide is to explain how to compile a cd from an xps or other save file.

There are a number of ways of booting a CDR on the PS2 and you will need access to a PS2 with backup booting capabilities. Now I will outline the software and their relevant uses to this cause.



2. The Software;



Homebrew CDR;

A homebrew CDR is a CD in the Playstation 2 format. They are made by building an image containing your game files. These images can be made using various software. In this Guide we will use CDGENPS2 (http://www.richpsx.com/playstation2/utilities/cdgenps2v2.zip).



PS2MENU (http://ps2dev.org/kb.x?T=1015)

An absolutely ground breaking program. Allows us to copy from CD to MC !

3. The Hardware;

A Playstation 2 games console (duh) and a Memory card.



4. Converting to npo;

The first thing to do is to extract all the files from the PS2MENU, PS2 SAVE BUILDER and CDGENPS2 files linked above into a folder. Open PS2 SAVE BUILDER and open your game save;

Now click File then Save as and select npo and click save (choose the same folder you extracted the software into earlier for ease;

You will have to do this for every game save you wish to upload. You can put as many game saves that will fit onto a CDR. You can upload as many as you want to MC.



5. Making Your Image;

First you need to create a SYSTEM.CNF;



BOOT2 = cdrom0:\PS2MENU.ELF;1
VER = 1.10
VMODE = NTSC



Copy the above text to a new document and save it as SYSTEM.CNF. You can use notepad for this.

Open CDGENPS2 and a window browsing your folder. Drag the following files from your folder to CDGENPS2 in the following order; SEE PIC

To fix the lba right click on a file and click edit. Then check the ‘fix lba’ box and type the lba. The DUMMY file is there as I am only uploading one npo. This will increase the TOC of my disc and prevent the PS2 from screeching when it boots up. Remember the pic below shows an example. You will need to drag your npo file here instead or as many npos as you like.

To save the image click the IMG button on the left and then choose a name for your BIN/CUE image.

6. Recording your image

There exists a huge variety of burning software that can be used. If you use NERO, ALCOHOL 120% or Record Now DX, then they would work. In this guide I will use NERO.

Open Nero Burning ROM and click Recorder then Burn Image;

Select your CUE file and then click burn.



7. Uploading



To upload the game save boot the CD you just created on your PS2. The following menu will load showing the contents of your MC;

Press R1 and this menu appears;

Move down to cdfs as shown and press x. The contents of the CD will now show. Move to your npo and press Triangle on it.

The npo will now extract to your Memory Card. The program tells you when it is finished, only takes couple of seconds.

I use an X-Port or Max Drive so I don't use this method and I won't be able to help much with this method. So if anyone else knows about this, feel free to help out other people.

dint know if anyone can help, but the method shown in the link above doesnt work for me, i got a disc read error. By the way i use a chipped ps2

i do not get this method.. it is easier for me to download the bin/cue version and burn it using nero burning rom

yeah.. thanks to them, i do not need to follow step #1 to #5..

@ploppyjim: if you cant follow step #1 to #5.. try to download the bin/cue version.. after that follow step #6 and step #7

so u got rid of ur read disc error??hw did u do it icant create a dummy file and i duno wad LBA to enter??can u pls hlp mi??thanks...

i did it just like it says... but it says its a disc error,... that sucks can anyone help me? and btw it isn't a option file for PES or WE...

or can anyone make a .cue and .bin for me... i would be VERY GRATEFUL..

any know how to creat a DUMMY file !? in above tutorial isn't explain that :( and another question is can i change name of saved file for example BESLES-52760PES4OPT to PESFanOptionFile ?

Swap Magic problems

Ive downloaded the bin file update and burnt it onto a CD. Problem i have is getting it work on my flip lid PS2. When i go through the usual process and instead of putting a game in i put the CD i burnt in, it says error reading. Is this a problem using swap magic? anyone else had same issue? is there another way you have to load these other than the standard game way?? help please coz i need the update running!!!!!!

i burnt one just like the tutorial said but didnt put a option file on it and it loaded memcard prog fine so next i got a option files and followed tutorial again but all i get is a black screen what am i doing wrong i tryed making dummy file with same values as the one in the tutorial but turned out to be another coaster

wat r u lot talkin about can i get an option file from da internet for pes4 on ps2 and burn it on cd and put it onto my memory card

Yes. It is explained in the first post. You need a modded or chipped PS2 to run the CD which contains the option file.

No you can't sorry. The format which the cdgenps2 creates can only be used on cd. Try using the cd loader if your having problem's you can get it from here: CD Loader

I've already burned 2 cd's and it keeps saying that the cd is not ps2 format. I've tried with the swap magic and without it it keeps saying the same thing. What can I do?
Does anyone has the bin/cue file of v3 optionfile? Where can i get it?

Give me the link for the xps file ( the x-port one). I'll see if I can get it too work mate

EDIT: Have you tried using the cd loader with swap magic kap19?
