Championship Manager 2010 [PC]

After the clusterfuck that was FM 2009 I'm hoping Eidos can pull something decent out of the bag and stick a finger up to Sports Interactive.

Championship Manager 2010™ to launch this September

Beautiful Game Studios are proud to announce the next iteration of the Championship CM logo stackedManager series is set to kick off in September 2009, including a brand new feature never before seen in a football management game - CM Season Live™.

CM Season Live™

While we’ve been polishing the game during our extended dev time, it’s also given us the chance to include a unique feature which will add longevity to the game.

CM Season Live™ is an additional monthly update that lets players download the real-world 09/10 football season data, at that point in time, and then take charge of their chosen club. All of the scores, competition standings, player transfers, player stats, bookings, major injuries, average ratings etc. from the ten leading countries in Europe, downloaded directly on a monthly basis throughout the season - full updates of 49 major leagues and competitions. CM Season Live™ starts on October 15th and will be available at monthly intervals for 6 months.

CM 2010 will be available in English, French, Spanish, Italian, Polish & Turkish languages, and will be up to date for the 2009/2010 season. Additionally, there will also be an official data editor made available.

CM Season Live™

CM Season Live™ is an exciting new feature coming to Championship Manager 2010 - a series of updates that allow players to experience the entire 2009/10 football season as it unfolds. The first Season Live™ will be available from October 15th 2009.

Each monthly update features full information for 49 competitions across 10 European countries containing all the scores, league standings, and competition placings for every club and full player info including signings, scorers, average ratings, major injuries and suspensions

To give an example of how these will fundamentally affect your experience of Championship Manager, cast your mind back to the end of last season, when Alan Shearer was appointed Newcastle manager. He had just 8 games to turn their fortunes around and save them from relegation.

Unfortunately for Newcastle, it wasn’t to be. Picking up just 5 points from their remaining games resulted in relegation.

But how would you approach the same situation?

Imagine taking charge at that point, with all results, bookings and injuries reflecting real life, even a players’ games/goals and average rating all accurate and in line with real world football. That is the opportunity that CM Season Live™ offers.

With 6 monthly updates available throughout the season, from October 15th, you can start your game & take on the managerial hotseat from varying start dates as the season progresses, and try to change your club’s fortunes for the better. Of course if you wish, you can still start from the beginning of the campaign, or from any other update point.

CM Season Live™ is about offering players a huge choice of gameplay and will radically alter their experience of football management

For any questions on CM Season Live™ or Championship Manager 2010, feel free to ask on our forums

I'm loving the sound of CM Season Live™ and the whole thing could be great IF they implement it properly and get the game balance correct. Fingers crossed - CM 2009 never came out due to Eidos' ownership change so perhaps it'll give them that extra 12 months to make the game perfect.

It's a good idea, but it will turn out to be a load of balls. I tried playing CM 2008 and have avoided it like the plague even since.

How the mighty have fallen. (the mighty being CM 01/02 era, not me.)

The CM Season Live idea seems interesting but I've enjoyed most of the FM games brought out by Sports Interactive and I don't think I'll change to the CM series because of one slightly promising idea. Last time I saw CM they were using a completely different attributes system to FM, is this still the case? e.g. they were using ratings up to 99 whereas FM uses ratings up to 20.

No idea at the moment. The last time I touched CM though the stats were so heavily in favour of English sides that the mid-table PL clubs were generally better than the top clubs in Italy and Spain.

FM2009 was the biggest fuck-up I've ever come across; the injury plague never went away for me so I've never been able to play it and the press conferences were incredibly annoying during the very short time I did play. I'll definitely be sticking to my promise of not buying FM2010 - I'll definitely give it a go in case they've fixed the injury thing but I'll also give CM a go for the first time in years.

I didn't have any problems with injuries but the press conferences are a bit of a pain in the arse. I send my assistant to almost every one nowadays.

I never had any problems with injuries in FM 09. But as you say an extra 12 months to work on a game could be what was just needed for a comeback

First football manager game I ever got was a Championship manager.

Hopefully this one will be better than FM09.

I like FM2009 a lot, still play it today. I've never got a CM game before, but I will check out write-ups for this definately.

Unless this gets really positive reviews all over, I'll be getting FM2010.

Should be fierce competition for years to come...

We'll know very soon whether SI need to up their game with FM or can continue screwing us over as they've no competition.

“I’m delighted to be able to confirm the 11th September release date for Championship Manager 2010. This edition contains features which will really set us apart from the competition such as CM Season Live™ which offers a totally new dimension to the football management genre,” said Roy Meredith. “This is the culmination of two years incredibly hard work and the whole studio is genuinely excited about how gamers will react when they get the chance to play it for the first time.”

Championship Manager 2010 is the latest edition of the classic football management franchise, and will be the first football game available for the 2009/10 season. In development for over 2 years, the 2010 edition offers players a host of unique features never seen before in football management games. These include a bespoke 3D match engine with over 500 individual player animations created specifically for Championship Manager, a Set-piece creator giving users the chance to create their own unique free kicks and corners, Scouting Networks allowing users to set-up local networks in countries around the world and scout for local players and Practice matches helping users build and mould their perfect team or trial new players.

Championship Manager also includes an industry first in CM Season Live™ allowing players to download the real-world 09/10 football season data and take on real world managerial decisions and challenges in the leading leagues across Europe.

Ahead of the games release, players will be able to try out all of the latest features and more in a full demo available from August 14th via the Championship Manager website. With 6 months game time (over half a season) contained in the demo and fully compatible with the full version of the game on its release, players have a full four weeks to prepare themselves for the release of Championship Manager 2010.

Championship Manager 2010 will be available across Europe in French, Italian, Spanish, Turkish and Polish on Friday September 11th 2009.

It's interesting to see they've taken some of FIFA's ideas (or it could be vice-versa, who knows) and included them in the new game.

I'll be getting the demo on the 14th for sure. Will have to be something very, very impressive to put me off getting FM2010 when that comes out. SI haven't released any details about their new title as far as i'm aware though, which is quite annoying.

:S Hmmmm, I'll wait for someone to download and share their thoughts on it.

I take it you're downloading Sweey?

Nope, I'm at work and don't have my memory stick with me. Will download it once I get home and give it a whirl before the TIM Cup.

So has any one played the demo yet?

Its alright, at least better than the last CM demo I tried ('05).

The training I found a bit overwhelming when I first played cos its really in depth.

Sweey

*RETIRED*
I've played it a bit but as the layout is so different and the set-piece creator and training are so overwhelming I've not played much.

VERY annoying that the mouse buttons I use to go back and forward between screens aren't mapped in CM so I have to keep clicking on the icons in the top-left corner and that's majorly put me off just because it takes that much longer for me to do things. Might sound silly but I like to get through things smoothly.
