I beg your pardon?
Unfortunately I can't provide screen shots as my PS2 is fooked, but if anyone knows the score already, and can provide screens to me for the good of the thread, I would be most grateful.

01. Set up your default formation just as you normally would. Make sure every tiny detail is perfect. Set individual attack and defence arrows. Pick your best team, this may not be final until you have finished Formations A and B.

02. Go into STRATEGY, You will see

MANUAL
SEMIAUTO
FORMATION A
FORMATION B
COPY TO A
COPY TO B

select MANUAL, then assign Triangle to Formation A, and Square to Formation B. Assign X to Counter Attack and Circle to whatever you want.

03. Then select COPY TO A+B. This will give you a template to work on for your alternate formations.

04. Go into FORMATION A and move your players around to whatever you want. Alter attack and defence arrows as required. Try not to pull too many players out of their default positions, a couple of subtle changes can have as much impact as a full formation change. You need to take into account your players abilities and what other positions they can play. Do the same for FORMATION B. Maybe try some of these formations.

Advanced Formations

05. Now you're ready to test it out. Use Exhibitions until you find the right balance, so you don't mess up your league if it isn't working for you. To activate the formation changes in game, you need to press L2 + Triangle or Square. When the symbol appears next to your status bar, it means it's active. Don't have both on at the same time though, they'll cancel each other out.

06. Practice and experiment. That is after all what gaming is all about.

OTHER NOTES.
Instead of having 3 formations, you could go for a simpler option of just 2. Instead of selecting MANUAL, select SEMIAUTO and assign L2 to FORMATION A. This way you only have to press L2 in game to activate your formation change. And it makes using the other strategies, like counter attack and zone press easier as all 3 will be automatic. Although the hardcore won't like the idea of the computer changing for them.
Player selection and positioning is key. You may need to edit some players to compensate for extra positions Konami didn't get right.
Your formation will only be saved in your master league if you have done it within the menu system, and not before a game. If you do it before a game, go to stock formation to save it.
Don't forget to save it.

Just wondering if anyone has started using this since I posted it?
Any feedback?

I have! It's very, very complicated but can change a game in ten minutes if you're "Stuck In A Rut"(no pun intended)

Very well done, jMz. Must've taken you hours...

Cheers, glad it helps.
To be honest it took minutes to figure it out. When I got the game (release day) I read the manual cover to cover. Explains it in there, but it's as if it's been translated from Japanese. I'm just nifty with tactics and stuff. I'm so used to using them now it's just second nature. Every team, every game I use a different blend of 3 formations depending on the players that team has.
Classic Brazil is my favourite on the game though. I'll be posting that soon.

I found a post asking about this earlier regarding WE8/PES4.
Is this still going to be the same set up? can you use 3 formations at once? Or have they given us more? I hope so..... Classic Netherlands here I come..

i use the 2 formation system in semi auto mode but one little detail that makes sometimes loose a goal is that in semi auto mode in 50 per cent of the times always the cpu activates the wrong player to get the pass to score.

i wonder is this solved by using manual mode?

I'm not sure if I know what you mean dude?
You have to activate what player you want with L1 when defending, or get your pass right when attacking. The semi auto shouldn't make a difference.

Also if you put a full formation as A1, A2 or A3 the computer won't auto select it. If you use Semi auto, your formation has to be on L2.

And remember it won't change instantly, if you know how to hold up the ball for a few moments, you'll see the team shift on the radar eventually, sometimes it's quick sometimes it's slow. Then when you see a player run, pounce with the killer ball.

If you explain what you mean I'll be glad to try and help (if I haven't already).

jmz...I THINK it's pretty much the same for WE8...at office so can't check. Most of the menus are similar and so are the buttons to change tactics.

That's splendid news.
I thought they might knock it up a notch again but maybe I expect too much.

i dont know if its a bug but i copy my straetgy A and strategy B in their respective boxes and then go to save stock data and then the next time i load stock data and copy that formation to now in use square it only has that one, and the strategy A and B reverted to normal

i dont know, i think im doing everything right..could someone please tell me if this is a bug in the game or there is some unobvious trick

I have the same problem. I save up different formations and assign them to strategy buttons but when the game starts they revert to default. I have also tried copying in from stock data mid game and assigning them to strategy but they don't seem to work. It is pretty frustrating.
