Tutorial:
Fraps - Goal recording
Ok, once you have installed both programs it is necesary to set them up starting with Fraps, as Virtual Dub doesn't need any configuring until after you have recorded your goal.
1. When you open Fraps, you will notice the basic interface. This will determine your recording preferences.
2. The first 3 boxes will read 'Sampling rate' 'Overlay Style' and 'Overlay Corner'. It is simply best to leave these as they are.
3. The second set of options are the 'Movie Options' which will set what button on your keyboard you will use to start a video capture 'Hotkey' and setting your video capture speed in FPS (Frames Per Second). Make sure to check the 'Enable Video Capture - Hotkey' box. The best option to select is 30 FPS if you have a good pc hardware setup. Roll it down if necesary if you experience problems. Try experimenting with this option to see what gives you the best results.
4. Keep everything else to how it is, unless you want to 'Enable Screen Capture - Hotkey, then check the box and select what button you want to capture screen shots with.
5. Once all this is configured, minimize Fraps (do not close it as it will not work, just minimize it).
6. You are ready to start PES3 and begin recording! use your hotkey whilst in game to capture either Video or High res Screen shots. MAKE SURE TO HAVE ENOUGH SPACE ON THE HARD DRIVE as uncompressed goal files will tend to be quite large depending on how many seconds/minutes of footage is recorded. Put your game resolution at 640*480 pixels, as this will reduce record speed and capture the whole shot.
7. The best time to record is when you have scored a goal and it has shown the 2 angles of replay. The third lets your control the angle and has the option to rewind, fast forward, play etc. Have a mess around with this and see what you come up with.
8. When you exit PES3 and are happy with your recordings, locate your Fraps file folder (this will be where you installed the program. In the folder will be your recorded goals.
Whilst viewing these goals with your media player you will notice it playing slow (30 FPS) This is where the second program, Virtual Dub comes in.
Virtual Dub - Editing your clip
1. Run Virtual dub and you will get to the interface.
2. Go to: FILE>OPEN VIDEO FILE. Locate your video clip, (will look something like (pes3 2003-11-02-00-38-45-04) should be in the fraps folder and open it.
3. Then go to: AUDIO>NO AUDIO. (This will keep the file size down)
4. Then VIDEO>FRAME RATE. There you will open another panel. Look at source rate adjustment and check the second button "CHANGE TO..........FRAMES PER SECOND". Once checked enter the value "60" in order to up your video capture frame rate to a smooth 60 FPS.
5. Next go to VIDEO>COMPRESSION. Go 2 down and highlight DivX 5.0.5 codec and click OK.
6. Test your clip by using the buttoms on the control bar at the bottom and it should be running better, if not, lower the framerate or go back over the steps to see if you have done it all correctly.
7. Finally, go to: FILE>SAVE AS AVI. Enter the file name for the clip and the folder you want to save it in. The clip will then record as a .AVI file, dramatically lowering the file size. Depending on the length of the clip, between 1mb-2mb.
8. It is advisable to open your fraps folder containing the original clip, the one that looks like this:
(pes3 2003-11-02-00-38-45-04) and delete it, as it is a large file and it doesn't take many of those to fill up your hard drive.
This is pretty much it. If you have any questions, problems, post them up in the forum. The email link is active so remember to email me at
[email protected] if you get stuck. Have fun making your clips. It's a bit tricky at first when recording as to getting the timing right, but after a while, you should get the hang of it. Look forward to seeing your goals!
