Wouldnt it be good if PES3 had a feature where you could design and practice set-pieces for use later during games? I think the latest F*FA has such a feature.

When taking corners - how are you supposed to know where the tall guys are, or those who have good header/jump stats? Currently I am just forced to whack the ball in and hope for the best. Anyone know a better way than this?

For corners, there is a practice section!!!

It's the ML Team training, you can train corners, free kicks, penalties, thru balls, throw ins etc.......

I've found the free kick training rather useful.

If you mean training routines create a set-piece move, yes. It would be a nice feature for free-kicks too, both long and short.

It would be nice to trigger 'set-piece' with the in-game strategies :L2: + :x: or whatever, so (certain) players would go near-post, other to the far one, or one runs out of the box to receive a short corner.

The risk would be over-complicating things, and a popular game has to be playable by people who range from novices to obsessive experts.

Oh I just thought, how cool would it be to have two free-kick takers standing over the ball, you select which will take the kick with R1 (similar to select receiver from throw-ins). But the uncertainty could cause hesitation within the defending team. They should have to position the keeper too, so that becomes an issue in the same way it is in real football.

It'd be difficult to confuse a fellow human player if there's a big "<1>" over the kicker's name and a big "*insert thin air here*" over the other's, though...

Still, very good idea. Set-pieces are generally poor in PES - you can't really score by hitting it across the wall, only over it.

I don't think the indicator appears during throw-ins, you just take control of the player's movement. I guess it shows up on the scanner (?).

So maybe at free-kicks they could measure their first step in a run up. One it so the keeper thinks the ball will og one way and positions himself for that.

Then flick R1 and take control of the other kicker, and take it the other way. It would test who could take aim, or react quickest.

And more variety.

I scored a goal just tonight across the wall from a free kick. Its not easy but it can be done.

And with regards to corners there are two tatics I use

1. right footed kicker from the right side: tap the d-pad right slightly, try to line up the corner of the 6yrd with the ball. Then Hold up to get a bit over it (I use the d-pad as the analog can be over responsive) and let fly to just a shade under the midway line. Nearly always finds a head and if you over hit it sometimes you can take it down for an easy open shot.

2 Left footed kicker from right side: Tap the corner ever-so-slightly in and get over the ball as before under hit this one and you have a chance of still knocking it on the near post (shearer is a dinger for that one) It generally finds the center half at the top of the 6yrd.

both those are interchangeable for feet and side, obviously.

As with everything in pro-evo there is a luck factor too.

u should be able to change the foot the player uses... a two footed player (8 wfa) will use his favourite foot on the wrong side when taking a free kick.

the wrong side for curling it away from the keeper over the wall anyway.

I've always liked the whole more than one free kick taker idea. I always figured that Konami never put it in because they couldn't be arsed.

You could have several options allocated to certain button combinations before you take the free kick e.g. :L2: + :circle: means the first player dummies etc.

The variations could be cool. One player could roll the ball for the other to smash, Alan Shearer style. Which makes me wonder, does the game have direct and in-direct free kicks? I forget which type of foul leads to which.

Then you could have one player dummy over and then the real kicker pass to him instead of shooting, by-passing the wall.

Would make the game much more realistic and varied.

Although what Nifty highlighted is an obvious problem. Although assuming you have set your own strategies you would know which player was going to take the kick anyway so perhaps a cursor is not needed. Or mayber you could press L1 at the last minute meaning the first player dummies and the second player strikes the ball with the power/curve/direction you first pressed. Players who do not bother with strategies could jus have the <1> cursor above as usual.

Thought that would be great too.

BTW I haven't scored from a free kick for some time already, having few probs nowadays, like always hitting the wall.

I know what you mean.

I tried some of the Challenge Training routines I'd completed months ago - dribbling and free-kicks. I thought I might pick up those last few stars, but actually did worse than before!

My lame excuse is that I only gave it minutes, rather than hours, plus I've been using other techniques more suited to actual games.

I think the brain and the fingers forget moves unless you repeat them ritually. So if I've spent weeks trying out other free-kick techniques, I may have lost my touch for ones I was doing well with before.

The game can be very unforgiving at times if you stop practising free-kicks though when I get into the training ground I can more often than not hit the target but when it comes to the game itself. As for the Challenge Training I'm sure most people are like me and just got really, really infuriated with it - I was so very pissed off that day until my face was purple from screaming and I felt the old heart-attack coming on.

Has anyone actually completed them all? I just had the very last dribbling one to do but it was impossible and I tried with every Brazilian in the game & Maradona but no chance - perhaps if I created a player specifically for the challenge it may be possible.
