been playing for several days now (WE8 for xBox)

on two star difficulty i can win pretty much every game unless they get a miracle.
but when i move to 3 stars i just lose EVERY dang game... and its getting frustrating...

They pass to open men time after time and i cant seem to find a man open EVER... with the exception of a guy on the wing from time to time. However even when i pass to him... hes quickly covered and rarely ever makes it down the sideline far enough to cross the ball.

I simply cannot get a shot on goal off... my ONLY hopes of shooting on goal is if i stumble my way down the sideline and get a cross to connect with a header... thats maybe 2 or 3 times a game.

And finally i just cant seem to steal the ball from them. they seem to take the ball from me with little effort while it takes me significant time and work (along with a second defender) to take the ball from them.

I am using 3-5-2 with Juventus in Masters League (default teams).

Can someone please help me focus on what I need to practice in order to play better?

P.S. I have played for hours in the conditioning thing and i seem to play better in there... but as soon as i touch a real team its frustrating as hell!

the game is losing its appeal quickly for me

The point where its too hard on 3* and too easy on 2* is the hardest point in learning to play.

At one point I could easily win on 2* but couldn't get the ball out of my own half on 3*.

There arent any hard and fast techniques on how to learn to play, just constant practice.

Tackling takes a long time to get the hang of - if you have played Fifa before or perhaps any of the This is Football series then you expect when you press tackle your player will tackle but its very different in PES. Its more of a 'Pressure' thing than a tackle thing and can take a while to get used to. You could try it in the training exercises, in 'Challenge Training' I think its is and this might help but the ability to tackle should come with time. If you are struggling to get the ball you could always resort to a sliding tackle - this can be a bit dodgy.

Passing is the main part of advancing through the difficulty - you need to be quick to see openings and slot the ball through. The 'through pass' is also extremely effective as is the lofted through pass (not sure what buttons this will be on the Xbox). Your ability to get the timing right of your passes and to notice the best places to pass will again come with time. Remember if you cant find a way through dont hesitate in passing the ball back and waiting for an opportunity - PES is a supposed to be a realistic football game so you need to play it realistically.

A final point which I found very useful to begin with was learning so quick techniques for one on ones. On the lower difficulties you can get loads of these opportunities and it is damn annoying when you waste one. I reccommend learning to chip, it is much harder to perfect than it looks but when you get it right you will be able to score from almost anywhere in the area untroubled and one on ones will be no trouble.

Keep trying and dont give up - its a great game when you get into it.

Hope this helps.

Orkyben has made some good points.....

Pass, pass, pass,

When you do through balls....try the super cancel to take control of your player and grab the ball manually....this takes some skill.

Read this.

www.pesmoves.com

This has helped me to become a better player although...I am nothing.

Use R2 and perfect your dribbling....stopping....dribbling again on the wings....you will know what I'm talking about if you read the link....I guarantee you will be on your way to being a better player....and maybe even one day you'll be part of the ELITE....if you know what I mean.

yeah the on ly thing i can say is make good use of the challenge training thing.
i did the sink or swim method and went straight to 5 stars....after a while got the hang of it. My biggest tip to anyone is don't lunge tackle stand off the playyer by holding R2 and and tackle when they make a decision...pressure them into thinking and don't do the thinking for them

ok thanks for the help and tips guys
the game is pretty dang frustrating...

Ive given up on master league for now and went to play some exhibitions as Brazil facing Ireland to try and help myself play better.

lost all four games but they werent full on domination at least.... still frustrating though.

Ive worked on the slow/medium/fast dribble down the sidelines and its made some difference... its helped me begin to dodge defensemen better so im makin progress i guess.

i have actually made quite a few scoring opportunities and blown them all so my next question is this... how the heck do i aim my shots?!

i play camera normal far and my shots either go wide (no matter how freakin close to the goal i am) or they go dead center and the goalie simply catches them with little effort.

ive tried playing with the camera chasing my player and my shots are much more successful... but i cant see who to pass to. so its no good.

any advice there would be greatly appreciated.

Ill check the link above ASAP so if the answer is in that article please excuse the question.

Learning to aim is also quite tricky. Again though it comes with time. Open up training mode and the 'shoot' training. A simple one on one that is really useful for practising. You should keep going on this until you can score at least half your chances. This practise should slowly start getting you used to aiming, lobbing and taking it round the keeper.
