I THINK I have in part found a way round this.
What you have to do is find a player with the nationality you want that is not linked to a club team.
E.g. Devlin @ Scotland
Create a new player and use him as your base copy. Once you have this you save your perfect copy.
Then go to Devlin (or whoever) and edit him IN THE NATIONAL TEAM to say McFadden......
Then go to your Club Team Selection under register player and register the newly created McFadden to Everton (or team of your choice)
Then go back to National Team selection and pick your created copy of your player and pick him instead of the newly created mcfadden.
You now have McFadden at Everton and Devlin in the scotland squad again.
Ok this is a bad example as Devlin would never be chosen over Faddy but you know my point.
I hope this makes sense to people..............and more importantly works!!!!
