Cut Backs

I play alot of people online who just want to win so bad instead of entertain... they become predictable and i can sometimes nick the ball off them as they turn back.

Is there any good way to defend once they cut the ball across... because even when i press L1 to manual switch its a lil bit slow.

Anyone use sweepers or different tactics to stop it happening?

As soon as the ball gets out wide I call two defenders out to close the man down. I will usually send the first one in with a sliding tackle to try and bring the player down (i would rather defend a free kick than a cut back) and if he misses then get a block in the the second defender. If the dirty little opponent still gets through I just start hitting all the buttons in a frantic attempt to get players sliding in, bodies on the floor, feet stuck out to try and block the pass or the shot.

I follow a simple rule - If someone cutbacks against me then I will cutback against them...

It Drives Me Mad

Handle - mog

I hate it when you see that the opponent lines up the really unrealistic formation that means all they'll be doing is hitting the wings and cutting it back for the 5yd tap-in! It's so boring to play against that I lose interest - why play the most realistic football game in the world to score the same goal again and again??

Footballs an art-form, not a pre-form!

Glad to hear that others think this about PES5 online. I get so frustrated when people do this. I played a guy last night, he was Man U and I was Chelsea (which I support, not just because they are good in PES5). I knew what was coming when he put Ronaldo as far out on the wing to the right as possible, Giggs on the left in the same position and Ruud as a central striker with Rooney dragging just behind.

He beat me 5-1 and guess how many of his goals were cut backs? 5.

So very bent it defies belief. I do sometimes manage to defend myself against cut backs but when the game lags it is almost impossible. My goal was a Lampard cracker from 30m right up in the top left corner.

I was so annoyed I turned off after that match and went to bed.

Mumpleaser, if i were you, i would just keep telling myself it's only a game. I used to get pretty worked up because of conceding goals like that as well. No matter how far back you put your defenders, they come out of position leaving attackers free in the box to score or win penalties.

It used to really put me off playing until i made new accounts. People think you're shit and don't use every dirty little trick to beat you. I have such enjoyable games now and can't be bothered if i lose or win. Don't let other people ruin it for you. You'll find you are more relaxed when playing (which is what games should be- a form of relaxion) and end up winning more because of it.

Btw I'm not saying make new accounts endlessly (as i do), but maybe choose shit teams so you don't expect to win anyway, and it's only a plus if you do; and not a disappointment/cause for anger if you don't.

Or just play a formation with like 6 across teh abck so you just Funk them off. I have my in game start for Formation B as this. I have one striker and everyone else huddeld all around my penalty area, and covering the fullbacks. if someone is a dirty cutbacker make the game as boring as possible for them!

Back and to the left.
heh heh what about a 10 man backline forming a ring of steel around your box. operation human shield. I might try that for a laugh one night. I suppose you could also play a classic germany style sweeper defensive system 4-4-2 leaving you with a man free in the centre (hopefully) to intercept the cutback pass. If someone only plays one way then does it not make it easier to defend against if they do the same thing all the time?.

For my sins, I scored one the last time I was online but it was an accident. honest guv no word of a lie.

This is the reason i hardly ever play it online anymore.
I dont care about losing at all but its so boring when nearly every game i play, my opponents all do the same thing.

I only ever play online with buddies now who dont do these dirt goals

If you know that you opponent is constantly using cutbacks then set your defence up appropriatly to stamp this out, use your right and left backs as static defenders in your lagging half then let them push up in your good half.

Remember it is man who controls the machine;)

Why do you all care about cutbacks so much? Surely the idea of the game is to win. Sure it'd be nice to play an entertaining much 99% of the time, but this just won't happen!

Stella - your rightin theory. but in practise it is SO BORING to have the same goal scored or attempted against you game after game. I play the game for entertainment from a personal point of view, and playing someone with one thing in mind is not entertaining, and frustrating as it is its bloody difficult to stop!

Anyone who says "why do you care about cut backs" obviously does them.

If everyone wanted to win so badly they would ALL do it but whats the point in scoring EVERY goal the same way.
ALL the games would be so scripted, and they basically are now when i play online.

When all my mates play NO ONE does dirt goals and all the games are much more entertaining, and you rarely see the same goal twice in a game.

I was playing someone online the other night and i scored within the first 5 minutes on my first attack, he had the cheek to say "your a one trick pony"

it finished 5-4 to me in the end and everyone of his goals was a cut-back! just make me laugh at what a hypocrite some people are online.

best way to defend against wide wing-forwards set youf team settings to auto-defense, counter attack A, offside trap C, Zone Press C, Back Line A, there is no need to play with the 4 centre backs and 1 sweeper which im constantly seeing people use against me.

Some wonderful use of the english language here from BJDennyben!

If it is all about winning, then keep playing against a 4 year old and get your stats up and then claim to be the best in the world. To me it is about having fun and a sense of good clean gaming. Yeah i would rather win than lose, but if it has been a quality entertaining game i dont really give a monkeys.

Ahhh... this reminds me of the time i played a Brazilian user who was ranked in the top ten, i was Argentina. He setup his weird formation with 4 strikers spread out in perfect cut back formation. At first he was all over me because he had so many players forward and it was hard to break out of my own half, but every time i did i kept almost scoring. I defended against the cut back well that match and won 3-1... He kept pressing pause and leaving the time to expire near the end of the match, i guess he thought i'd quit. Yeah right.

But i agree, it's nice when you really stick it to those people, but it's so damn boring. That's why i just play Master League now instead. Hey, you can argue that the CPU doesn't play fare but i have way more fun against A.I than most online opponent.

hands up if youve ever scored a cut back...

exactly

you all have

fair dos i score the occasional one but i play 442 with arsenals standard formation so the situation doesnt arise much, i have scored many different types of goals. but if some sets up a 3 fws 2 of them wide as hell i will punish them at every oportunity with cut bakz if not il play my normal game, crisp decisive passing, the arsenal way :D
