Defending against game begin lob cheat

OK for all practical purposes the game begin lob is a cheat. In any case if you ever come across a player with a team called VASCO you'll see how well he uses that cheat. This is on PS3 American server... In any case he is very good and he beat me 3-1 with two of these cheat goals today.

I asked this before but I'll ask again... Is there any good defense against this tactic? Not everyone can make it work but when they do it is annoying as hell.

Did anyone try getting your keeper out early?

Tons of people do that. It's not cheating because you can defend against it.

Just make sure to not press too many players right after your opponents kick off and/or switch to one of your defenders as soon as he tries to lob over your defensive line. This is why it's important to have some big players that excel in the air in your back line or playing as DMF. I use Fellaini.

The other tactic I see used ALL THE TIME is people running the ball all the way to the touchline and then passing it back in front of goal. You can really thread the passes in this game and if you don't pay attention to this you will get spanked by some players.

The way to defend of course is to not press all of your players towards the guy with the ball. All you have to do is switch to a defender to cover the zone while pressing SQUARE to keep the nearest defending pressing the dribbler.

good point about the low crosses, i also try to get my defender to intercept the low cross before it reached the first post, mostly this is succesfully because of good positioning of your player (and because the low crosses are quite predictable)

the thing i use to defend te lob at kickoff (commonly known as L1 cheat) is to always immediately walk backwards with the midfielder i control at moment of the opponents kickoff, imo he doenst have to be very strong in the air because you will be way earlier at the ball then your opponents attacker, for me it always works with players like sneijder and van der vaart..

the best way to defend this is to have your defensive line realy deep then they lob the ball straight to your centre baks, adjust the level to 2 or 3 sorted.

This might help but it severely alters your defensive line's position and the setting would have to be activated during the whole match. Thats a bit too severe a counter tactic for those that don't want to change their tactics.

Anyway, there are two solutions to the lob pass kickoff:

1. Move your player backwards as soon as possible, as mentioned in a post above.
2. Hold Y/triangle to bring out your gk immediately after the opponent kicks the ball.

I always use method 1, but if I forget or mess up then I bring out my gk. Have maybe allowed just 2 or 3 opponent shots like this compared to the dozens of goals/shots I conceded before I figured out how to counter.

No, no.Just run directly back with your first selected player (DO NOT CHANGE PLAYER SELECT) behind your back four and head it out.JOB DONE .THREAD SOLVED.The guy above me beat to it ,but like he said, just bring you goaly out as fast as possible ,In case you forget to run backwards straight away from kick off.TBH though you should be running backwards from the start regardless because how effective the simple through ball is from the kick off when your opponent hits it too his winger from kick off then makes run off the ball with his striker.I always find it better to be having a dmf dropping back to chase the runs ,particular when your opponents players are superior .I haven't conceded from kick-off for a long time using this method.

Yes always best to just get infront of your attackers in the box ,anticipating the low cross and just press square to pressure the winger.Obviously not all the time especially when you think you can win the ball with your full back ,maybe can be more attacking defensively with your full backs if you have the worldys. It's so funny how many times people will try this and once you just start defending this type of attacking method for fun,you will easy jump upto d1 .That is if your creative enough going down the other end.

I played someone who tried this 4 times last night and my centrebacks dealt with it each time, my offense setting is 9 and I don't use quick counter, rather defensive possession & long ball.

It used to be a problem when I used Quick Counter and had my offense settings high, the positioning of my defence didn't seem to make a difference so even if they sat deep, from kick they would still run forward.

Only 4 times:D.
Usually face this 10+ times in a match:huh:.Especially when they have some jinky runner on he wing i just totally ignore them and anticipate the cross. So annoying though when you try to intercept the cross with a slide tackle and they just slot home with low cross .I always think wtf am i doing just focus on defending your 6 yard line. But the main thing with this game you have got too quickly try and work out your opponents ability and his attacking methods.PES is just a kind of complicated game of chess/ poker, work out your opponents defensively then deceive them on the attack. This is where nearly everyone goes wrong they play the game to there players ability rather that using there brain to play unexpected football

yes the thing with the quick counter is that it is actually a tactic to pressure your opponent when he is in possession, therefore your back line will move up straight from kick-off,

as mentioned above, just run backwards immediately, we its really neccessary use your gk, but thats dagerous too because he can head the ball into the feet of the opponents and the goal is empty (think CL quarter final inter-schalke this year, the stankovic (?) goal)
