Defending Help

Could you guys please help me with defending? I have moaned and groaned about the AI cheating/scripting/momentum shifts etc in the past. The truth is however the alternative to this game is worse than this game (FIFA!). So, PES 2009 does have some good points and I do enjoy perhaps 2 in 5 games. The other 3 are usually ruined by the AI cheating etc and I want to kill my controller.

That's where you guys come in - is there anyway to improve defending (stratergies etc) when the AI is cheating it's a$$ off? I've noticed it might only happen for a max of 3/4 of one game, so it will be OK if I could defend and see out these patches.

I have found the best thing to do is pass, pass, pass as much as possible. If I dwell on the ball, they swoop in and I srtruggle to get it back.

Any help with stratergies etc would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

many people will say its not true, and i would add, its not as much "cheating" as it is trying to script a strong momentum, kind of like a second-wind in real life. i can usually tell when this happens and it almost always ends with a goal sometimes even 15-30 seconds later, but you can see its happening just from the way AI starts moving.

what i usually do is try to break their momentum by whatever means possible, tackle or whatever. even if you get a yellow - its still worth it. also special controls for taking ball away help, just mashing standard keys dont work so well on higher levels.

i agree completley but i use a different strategy ,i use 5 in my midfeild when i loose the ball i try to get my players back to the half way line and start defending there ,so my team will be compact and deny space ,then i try to slow their passing or running game down by pressuring with my forewards ,only when they spring a fast break do i resort to rash tackles

i only use the team pressure button when they have the ball on the wing ,and when i need to posistion a defender to intercept a cross

I don't this all the time if I can just tackle normally, but if their on a break or just getting closer to your goal, I have a rule where I don't make the first tackle with my controlled player, I position a player somewhere else useful (ready for the interception, marking in the box to header away) and by pressing square (PS3) my teammates will pressure the player with the ball and try to take it from him, when the CPU is pressured into a pass, there is my guy ready to hit on the counter.

Works wonders, always think one step ahead

i do exactly the same just position urself 4 there cross and boom ur on the counter i have 2 admit ive never once noticed this scripting rubbish.

yes i use the position someone in own square and use pressure to intercept crosses but this is not always a very good stategy for me. players get pulled out of position and ai script skanks u in2 a dirty goal that ricochets of the keeper, crossbar, and of a defenders ass into the net.
