Definitive Control List

Chaps,

As we all know, the manuals for PES don't even come close to explaining what all the controls are for given situations in the game. I propose that we should put together a control list, the likes of which has never been seen.

Before I go off on this though, does anyone know if one already exists?

:)

Might be a good place to start.

Yeah, I'd forgotten about that one. I was thinking more like a list which was categorised by what the player is doing; sections for with ball, without, when receiving a pass, free kick, corner, aftertouch, etc.

It ocurred to me as every time I have a read through the forums here I find out about a new control - today it was that R2 will loft corners in WE7i.

Like a Coaching Manual, more than just the moves alone?

Not a bad idea.

There are quite a lots of lists of moves alone, though some miss out one or two.

And a lot of the gameplay does come down to practice/training and experience. And putting individual moves together smoothly.

The Beginners Lessons under the Training menu might give Headings for the main headings, and I think a lot of people skip it because they don't like the name. It's worth going through.

One big thing I found out here was the difference between R1 spinting, which goes in 16 directions, and normal or R2 dribbling, which only go in 6 directions.

That helps to judge if you can pass a player while maintaining an R1 sprint, by just 'jinking' your direction (22.5 degrees).

The thing with R2 is it gives you a Side-step, and knowing that works in 8 directions helps to get the move just when you want it, going the direction you expect to go.

So, if your going left or right, R2+up or down will work.
If you're running on a diagonal, e.g. heading 'north-east' an R2+NW or SE will work. Get them down smoothly, and mix in some tight turns with L1, and 1-2's and your away.

R1 is good for controlling the ball in the air.

evo-web have this list of moves which I thought was very clear and helpful. (Registration Req.) There are some lists and advice on Free-kicks on the front page here at PESInsight too.

I think their site is down temporarily.

PESfan also have a lot of general advice, over and above the buttons required for particular moves.

Again, Registration Req.

Well, it's all down to trial and error for me, but square and circle seems to work fine for me. If you want to take the ball off the dribbler in the box, run up to him (using sprint & the analog stick or d-pad), then when you get close enough, press square to try and grab the ball. It may be risky. I once tried to do it when the guy took a shot at me, I punched it clear, but brought the shooter down, too, so I earned a yellow card and a penalty. I don't know if X will do anything. But some saves are simply all down to good positioning, then the CPU will automatically save the shot for you.
