Dual Shock pad banned?

hitmanuk2k

According to gamespot.com Sony are being sued for using some other companies technology in the dual shock pads. It is the thing which makes the pad rumble that is apparantly not sony's. In america they are soon to be banning the pads, as well as some games which also use the technology including gta vice city.

all seems a bit weird why a company like sony would let themselves get into such murky waters. anywho just in cause i just ordered myself a new one :) they only cost 9.99 till this news was announced, so i'm a bit peeved but nevermind.

best get them quick lads!

yeah buy em while u still can!

I saw something once where a kid had been playing on his ps2 for a whole day or something and developed arthritus because if the dual-shock. No doubt it probably is dangerous but I don't over-use it so I guess I'll be ok...

You got a link for this nugget of information? Im too lazy to look.

Well thats gay, why not ban playstations all together because they take up space in other people's rooms. Ridiculous is what i say.

The ban on dual shock controllers and games will only affect the United States, not the UK according to Gamespot.

Gamespot said:
Three years ago, Northern California technology company Immersion Corporation brought a suit against Sony Computer Entertainment and Microsoft Corporation claiming patent infringement of its proprietary technology used in the controllers for the companies' home consoles: the PlayStation, PlayStation 2, and Xbox.

Microsoft settled out of court with Immersion in 2003, avoiding messy legal proceedings for $26 million, which also got Microsoft a 10 percent stake in Immersion.

Sony, on the other hand, left the decision up to the courts, a move that appears to have cost the company a serious chunk of change. Last Thursday, United States District Judge Claudia Wilken ordered the electronics giant to pay Immersion $90.7 million in patent infringement damages. The fine stems from the $82 million awarded to Immersion by a jury's decision on September 21, 2004, plus prejudgement interest of $8.7 million tacked on last week, which Sony unsuccessfully objected to.

The tiff involves Immersion's technology that creates the "rumble" feature that causes controllers to vibrate in sync with events in games. The court found in favor of Immersion's claims that Sony's Dual Shock controllers, the standard sticks for Sony's PlayStation and PlayStation 2, and several of its games infringe on two of its patents.

The Oakland, California, court also ordered an injunction stating that Sony is to immediately stop selling the PlayStation, PlayStation 2, both versions of the Dual Shock controllers, and 47 games found to use the vibration technology, including Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Gran Turismo 3. The injunction only effects sales in the United States.

Well I still got myself a new one anyway just in case. I'm pretty sure if they get it banned in America it won't be long before it's the same here.

Here in the states, at least the part I am in, there doesn't seem to be too much concern about the dualshick controller thing. They are planning to ban it but Sony is planning an appeal so it wil delay the ban for a few more months. I've asked the local Eb games store and they said if the ban goes in effect they are lifting all Dualshock 2 controllers from shelves from Sony.

Also. I have a psp; Listening to mp3's on my stereo off it right now; and there is no vibration function on it. So sony doesn't have to worry about it. And of course EA is late with their release of FIFA for the PSP. My GOD THE MADDNEEEESS!!!! Yet WE8i keeps me happy.
