Bad news! EA have announced today that La Liga will be exclusive to FIFA 09. Here’s the press release from the rivals:

“Today, EA also announced it has secured an exclusive licensing agreement with the Spanish Liga BBVA and Adelante. The exclusive partnership with the Spanish La Liga grants EA SPORTS sole rights to include every Spanish La Liga club and enables the EA SPORTS FIFA franchise to deliver the most realistic and up-to-date game with current kits, squads and player likenesses.”

What this means to La Liga in PES 2009 we aren’t 100% sure right now. But I can see it becoming a similar situation to the England League in PES. Fans of the series, say a prayer tonight! Otherwise its Asta-la vista la liga!

Massive blow for Konami, but maybe they knew this all along hence why they have developed the editor massively ?

Either way, it sucks major arse.

I hope this doesn't mean that all player likenesses will disappear, but especially the player names. I'd hate it if all the names were fake.

I thought the licenses run out in 2010 and not 2008? Or is that just the English League License?

Either way, a major blow!

Also, why didnt Konami step in with a bid to buy the license? Cheapskates is my opinion

Well with the new edit mode hopefully there will be option files able to combat all the crappy defualt kits they give the Premiership and La Liga.

Will soon be typing La Liga and it'll be "Spain League"

It'll never happen to Serie A though - as nobody cares about us anymore :>

Think it'll be like the England League where all player names and some appearances are spot on but the team names aren't. No biggie cos it sounds like they got the gameplay right again.

Maybe hardcore fans don't care about this, with the Edit Mode and all... But if PES does Not haves neither the EPL nor The Spanish La Liga, they will get fucked in the market.

I'm not saying I'll go for FIFA this year, I'm just saying that many people will get fed up with PES's lack of Licenses; EPL wasn't a Huge deal, but EPL and La Liga?? That's just Unacceptable, I expect the Spanish Clubs to be fully Licensed because Konami cannot afford Not to have 2 of The Biggest Leagues in Club Football.

haha, well, EA have taken everything now. Honestly, i don't really mind, they will just improve the editor, and then its all sunshine, lollypops and rainbows.

I agree, although the Main Issue here is the Online Play.. Can we use Edited Teams in Online Mode?? Can we use them without having to worry about Default Settings?

If not, then Online Play will be filled with Cheap Looking teams, something that won't help at all. This is a huge issue for Konami, if they don't find an alternative to it, fans will get fed up with it.. it's that simple, Online Play is becoming more important by the day, and people will want to play with Decent Looking Teams during Online Play.

When it comes to online play, lag has to be the main issue. Also, I don't know how viable it is, but I wish there was an alternative to losing 3-0 when disconnected - it's annoying when you're winning and you lose because of disconnection. If only they could somehow differentiate between someone purposely signing off and unintentional disconnection. I can't see it happening any time soon though. :(

In Pes2008 did they have lobbys so you could play against people in your own country like on Fifa?

They can't. The connection simply isn't there and trying to ascertain the method of disconnection goes beyond their interests as it is a time-consuming investigation with no discernable conclusions. How does one differentiate, at a technology level, between someone resetting their computer/quitting the game and someone losing their connection for five seconds?
