Video games giant Electronic Arts has snapped up the UK games developer Criterion Software.

It gives EA control over a technology called RenderWare, which is widely used by its competitors to help make games.

But it has said that it plans to continue to license the RenderWare tools to other developers.

The purchase comes at a time when the games industry is gearing up for the expensive task of making games for the next generation of consoles.

Among the games that have used RenderWare are Grand Theft Auto III, Call of Duty and Pro Evolution Soccer.

Well as far as I know, Konami have ditched renderware for pro evo now days, and i dunno if renderware will be the standard once the new consoles are out.

The only thing EA was good for was THE SIMS! there was never any good Sports games produced by them to be honest, they ruined the Formula 1 Collection with its crappy animations

Its an Graphics engine used to make games like Burnout and some other ones.Wait if Ea now own Renderware Fifa will look and play a bit more like PES cause thats wat it runs on right? :confused:

EA are decent for statergy games, but i dont think they would be any good at creating a console, i jsut dont see why they should do that?

Plus if they do they will proberbly end up taking all their titles and putting them on this console that will proberbly end up being crap like the gamecube.
