Electronic Arts - the death knell for gaming

With EA now targeting the failing Take-Two (GTA, Max Payne) and the proof we already have that when EA buy a publisher the quality of games significantly reduces (Command and Conquer anyone?) it is starting to seem like nothing more than a matter of time until EA has bought almost everyone out and there is very little competition - of which there isn't an abundance as things stand.

I believe if EA were to complete their takeover of Take-Two it would signal the return of Max Payne. The only problem with that is they'd rape the good memories of it by releasing a poor quality game.

Discuss.

I agree besides monopilising the industry EA would screw up GTA and Max Payne by releasing half arsed games that are put out there for the purpose of making money, which is in essence what the business is about but they really know how to drain the consumer.

If for arguments sake EA had acquired Take2 a year ago and had to decide on releasing a flawed game before christmas or do what Take2 did and delay it. What would EA do.........?

EA are a sorry lot.

The fact that they used the same engine for the C&C and LOTR games, says it all.

Though, truth be said, the Medal of Honour series, have always delivered, but only because they had Spielberg's magic touch.

Have you been playing different games to me? Medal of Honour has always been on the wrong side of average.

Bad news. EA have proven they are nothing more than a gaming cash cow. Far too many shoddy movie tie-ins (that i wish to god people would stop buying...) and repetative rebakes of average games. To allow them to put their grubby mit's on the genious that is Take-Two would be a disaster.

On Friday EA offered $2 Billion (USD) for Take Two, but the offer has been rejected.

Take Two has stated in a press release that EA has undervalued the company's creative talents and intellectual properties. Take Two has also stated that EA is simply taking advantage of the upcoming release of Grand Theft Auto IV. For this offer, EA went so far as to create a website, http://www.eatake2.com/. The CEO of Take-Two, Ben Feder, had this to say about the offer, "The revitalization of Take-Two is well underway. In the last year, we have accomplished a great deal in terms of restructuring our cost base to improve margins, addressing the legacy issues that have weighed on our business, and enhancing our creative output through organic and external initiatives. We believe stockholders will reap the benefits of these actions both in the near and long term and that our efforts will create greater value for stockholders than what is being offered by EA at this time."

Discussions will continue after GTA is released I believe, but I really hope it doesn't go down.

50!

115 and Counting...

Apparently EA's best chance is before the GTA release because obviously Take Two will gain a lot of immediate income as soon as its released.

Take Two said they were willing to hold talks the day after GTA is released and that EA refused to do so. We all know why.

I don't think you'd be saying that a few years ago, when COD hadn't been released yet.

The first Medal of Honour, was a classic.

Great music and Spielberesque intensity through it all.

The latest ones may not be on the level of COD, but the first one was truly memorable.

If you mean Allied Assault then I'd agree, it was fantastic for its time. However, the moment Call of Duty arrived MOH went straight down the toilet.

Yep, that's the one. The Omaha beach assault, is a classic chapter in the history of gaming.

COD introduced that down the sight aiming, which was actually originally used for the first time, if i'm not mistaken, in a game called Flash Point. Another great classic of gaming history.

Unfortunately not, I bought Allied Assault only days after its release and was rather disappointed. It layed a decent foundation for the genre, and was better than the competition but that was saying little. In fact the same statement could be made about Fifa.

Allied Assault had it's flaws but was great, unless you had ridiculous expectations. Pretty sure it was the best FPS ever at the time.
