Relax guys....just done Greece V Russia, and here is the result:

Greece are through to the quater finals with a draw against Russia, awaiting the final match to be played now, to confirm the runner up to also go through.

So the two teams that go through from Group A are Greece as winners, Spain Runner up. Russia and Portugal are eliminated. hard luck guys...any comments from the managers?

The final group matches kept up the drama, as Spain, edged out Russia in a close finish to book their place along with surprise group winners Greece, in the Quater Finals of Euro2004. All 4 teams looked nervous and were shot shy in front of goal, but with the stakes so high and pressure so great, this was no surprise. Portugal needed a win against Spain in order to go through, but failed to score in a tense match, Spain, knowing that a draw could be enough, if the Greeks could beat Russia, but they sat back and soaked up the pressure. There weren't many chances produced in this match, which was mostly a midfield tussle, but Portugal having the better of the play created a few chances, but their lack of an out and out goal scorer probably cost them the tournament. It was Ronaldo who looked sharp, as he has done in previous games, with Pauletta and Gomez never really finding their feet. But Portugal should have won the match in the last 5 minutes, as Pauletta capitalised on a mistake by Marchena, let him through, although off balance didnt quite gather himself to score past Canizares, and shot wide. Spain, were poor, but managed to keep a clean sheet, which was just enough, as in the other match, The Russians grabbed a late equiliser against Greece, this made sure the group was going down to the wire. The Greeks did take the lead in the game, and were looking good for a clean sweep of the group with a goal by Charisteas. He had been a threat throughout, and is the dangerman for Greece as his shooting from range and great powerful runs into the box would trouble any defence. As it stood, a draw for Greece would be enough for both them and Spain to go through, and this is how it ended in a tense finale in Group A, with Spain going through by virtue of goal difference along with the surprise package Greece.
So elimination for the hosts Portugal, who would be bitterly disappointed with their performances in this tournament. As for the Russians, they would consider themselves unlucky, as if they had lost by a smaller margin in their opening match or salvaged a draw may have gone through, but it wasn't to be.

The Italians went into this match needing a point to make it to the quater finals, but what they got instead was a shock, leaving them praying that Denmark Beat or hold Sweden in the second Group C decider, or it's Arrivederci Italia! The Bulgarian manager, has been saying along the course of this tournament that he will be playing to defend and counter and that is what he did to great effect. With a 5-3-2 formation, he packed the backline, withdrew further back the defensive midfield and played with 2 forwards with 3 goal hero against Sweden, Jankovic slotting in to that supporting role. The Italians played an Unchanged team, with the formidable front 3 of Vieri, Di Vaio, and Francesco Totti. It was to be attack against defensive in this decisive clash, as both teams took to the field with a game plan of how to stop the other. With the Bulagarians expected to sit back and soak up the pressure, it came as a surprise that The Bulagrians took the lead after only 3 minutes, as a cross from the right met the head of Berbatov who head in at Buffon's near post. It was a good header, but should have been saved, as Buffon parried into the net, 1-0 Bulgaria. The Italians Attacked from then, but the Bulgarian defense stood their ground very well, with great organisation and keeping the Italian Attack from getting in behind, limiting them to long range shots. Italy grew Frustrated and it was evident, as they had 3 players booked with rash tackles, as every Bulgarian counter attack looked dangerous, with Jankovi and S. Petrov carrying the fight and taking the game to the Italians. Posession wise it was italy who dominated the play, but in terms of chances, the Bulgarians had the better of it, when manchev hit the post before half time, which would have seen the Italians 2-0 down. The best chance for Italy was a Zambrotta header from a Totti corner that went wide.
The second half was more of the same, with Bulgaria settign their stall out and willing to play on the counter attack. The Tactics implemented by JTHK were working very well, as The Italians hardly looked a threat from open Play. As the Italians pressed, the Bulgarians countered and when the mercurial, Jankovic went on another one of his runs, he doubled their lead with an exqusite goal. He picked upt he ball, beat two defenders got into a scoring position and slotted home the second goal for Bulgaria and his forth of the tournament. The Italians made a change by bringing on Cassano and Del Piero as they decided to throw caution to the wind and go for it. Totti had a good run and shot go wide on the 75th minute. Time was running out for Italy, who if they lost, are left hanging on the result to got heir way in the next match. A corner late in the match, saw Vieri climb and pull one back, but it was too little too late, as Bulgaria hung on, and booked their place in the last 8. A brilliant performance by the Bulgarians, and JTHK should get some praise as his team has put in some great performances and remained undeafeted, so fully deserve their place in the quater finals. The Italians are left reeling, and now they need all the luck they can get to progress, as the last 2 results have hidnered their chances. So one team through now, with the other to be decided, as The match finished Italy 1 Bulgaria 2.

looking at the points situation, as with Bulgaria winning, I think it means that Denmark are out, as italy had a 4-1 win against them in the first match, and so even if Denmark win and finish level on points with Italy, they cant go through. Of course if Sweden win, they go through. cos the points situation is like this:
