Czech Republic 1 Bulgaria 0
Man of the match: Baros

Goal scorers:
Czech Republic: Poborsky 35 mins

Report

After last night's diasappointing friendly of Germany Against Denmark, things improved in terms of watchability, as the Czech republic claimed a 1-0 victory over Bulgaria. Although the scoreline suggests a lack of goalmouth action, this game certainly threw up some chances, but with both sides guilty of not converting them into goals. For the most part, the attacking trio of Poborsky, Nedved and Smicer bossed the midfield, and created the early chances. A Nedved freekick after only the first minute, saw his shot go high over the bar. Infact the first 7 minutes saw 4 fouls in close proximity of the penalty box, but Nedved again, was unable to find the target. Liverpool's Milan Baros came close to scoring on 10 minutes after he picked up the ball on the edge of the box swivled and shot with the keeper making a good save to deny the Czechs their opening goal. The tall but well balanced Koller was a constant threat in the air and with his height took advantage from a couple of good crosses, but failed to convert his headers. Bulgaria managed to manufacture a chance and Berbatov turned, ran and shot, but his effort screwed wide of the post.

The Bulgarians, tried to stifle the Czech attack, marking the forwards tightly, and for the most part it worked, and if it wasn't for Petkov's goalmouth blunder that let in Poborsky on 35 minutes to score an easy goal, Bulgaria may end up reflecting on what might have been. Petkov picked up the ball in his own penalty box and did not clear his lines, he simply took too long over the ball, which allowed Poborsky in to rob the ball from under his feet, and he then smashed the ball low into the net, with keeper and defender completely dazed. I am sure the Bulgarian manager manager will have some stern words for the defender in the dressing room.

Bulgaria continued soaking up the pressure and managed to set up a good chance through Dimitrov, who narrowly missed the target with an unlucky 20 yard shot. The Czechs held out for a 1-0 win and for Bulgaria, who battled hard and kept most of the Czech forwards relatively quiet would feel that they deserved atleast a draw or should they have converted one of their own efforts a possible win. However it wasn't to be, and the Czech Republic gave a good, but not great account of themselves against a hard working, but not spectacular Bulgarian side, who most definately would feel extremely hard done by losing to such a soft goal.

The Eredivisie van der Schklomfemgaast said:
The Dutch manager has hit back at recent criticism of his starting eleven for the upcoming friendly with Italy, which was announced yesterday evening. Nifty told the Eredivisie van der Schklomfemgaast that he doesn't see "what all the fuss is about. I'm playing a friendly, and would like to try out some of the players of whose abilities I am not confident of being familiar with. It gives me a chance to try out a strike partnership which has a lot of potential."

When questioned over the alleged dispute with 30-goal striker Ruud van Nistelrooy, Nifty waved away such nonsense:

"There was nothing in it. The atmosphere in the Dutch camp has always been a light-hearted one - banter is as much a part of a training session as football is. I admit, perhaps, that bringing my pet donkey, Sanchez, along to the training ground and asking Ruud to start on the bench in it's place, was not the wisest decision - but Ruud is a strong character, and has taken it on the chin.

"A lot of people forget that Pierre [van Hooijdonk] is a very good footballer. Pierre has had a very productive season at Fenerbahçe, and his body strength and threat from set-pieces make him a danger to any defence. I believe he and Arjen [Robben] are well suited to play alongside each other in attack."

Manager Nifty also found no place in his starting line-up for the country's record goalscorer, Patrick Kluivert. "Patrick is a talented footballer, but he has recently been having trouble finding the back of the net. His record at both club and international level speaks for itself, and to say that someone who has scored over 30 goals for his country has lost his touch is ludicrous. Patrick will feature in the Euro 2004 tournament, I can guarantee you that.

"Those managers who have criticised my decisions would do well to fix problems at home first. I am happy with my squad, and am using the forthcoming fixtures to assess those players who need to be assessed in match situations. May I remind my fellow managers that talking about what other teams did is no excuse for forgetting one's own squad."

The Italy vs. Netherlands friendly is scheduled to be played within the next few days, at the Stadio Delle Alpe, with highlights to be shown on InsighTV after the game has concluded.

"Italy Coach Names Starting 11 for France Friendly"

Italy coach worldrecord50leagues, has named his starting 11 for the friendly game at the "Stade Louis II" against France.

Wr50l has admitted that he is yet to find the proper attacking formula and is far from happy with his defence.

Italy, have been conceding too many goals from crosses, and he has replaced veteran Fabio Cannavaro with tall defender Marco Materazzi.

Despite all of his problems on the drawing board, he is confident that he can hold at least a draw against France. He said,
"If we play to our full ability and our big game players like Totti, Vieri, Buffon and Nesta can help the untested players like Marco Di Vaio and Marco Materazzi then we have a good chance of beating them."

The France game is scheduled for tonight on wr50l's PS2, leaving tournament organiser t1000v2.0 free to continue with other friendlies.

Il Corrierre Della Sera

Italy coach wr50l was delighted with his team's performance at the Stade Louis II earlier this evening.

His main worries before the match was his team's goalscoring problems, but he seemed happy with that afterwards saying,
"In previous games, we had failed to hit the target, let alone score, but from the start of that game we were shooting, we had a shot which hit the bar in the first minute of play! And I was pleased that we made 9 shots on goal today."

The only negative thing he had to say about the game is the way we conceded the goal. He said,
"I said at the start of the game that I was worried about the aerial battle, it is the only weakness in our defensive play. And we conceded a goal in the air too. I hope that we can sort this out as it may be our downfall in Portugal this year.

Della Sera spoke to some of the fans after the game, they were all full of praise for the manager after a superb performance against the european champions. But they were still not entirely sure about the appointment of a novice manager just a few weeks before Euro 2004. They said,
"We were so worried after the first few games when we lost to Portugal at home, then there was the terrible set of friendlies against Saudi Arabia, Marocco and Belgium, in which we only won once. We just hope he can turn the corner and beat the Netherlands next."

Italy face the Netherlands next at the Stadio Del Alppi, you can watch highlights exclusively on insighTV.

The France manager is not happy by the performance of his goalkeeper and regrets not picking Rame for the squad

But there will be a few tactical changes for the next match and France will bounce back with a win against their next opponents.

Thanks for the match and report

You're keeper!! He wasn't that bad, although he cost you the first goal, I would have been more disappointed by Zidane, he really shouldn't have got a 7.0, a 4.5 would have been a much more accurate score. and Henry and Makalele!!

do you use the same stats as t1000v2.0?? if not why bother making these games, they won't show how good you are ... and i think it's better to focus on matches being made by him, cause now it's chaos everywhere, everyone is making his own games, it's up to you ofcourse but it won't be that fun anymore :(

Here's an extra bit of randomness (mainly cos there's nowhere else to post this so :p )

I played a full Euro 2004 today with all the groups set as they should be. I played as France on 5*, 10 mins matches. Here's how it went:

France 4-0 Croatia
France 1-0 Switzerland
France 0-1 England (Gerrard header from a corner)
(England qualify top with 7 points, France are second with 6)

QF France 7-0 Portugal (revenge for the defeat  )
SF France 1-0 Italy
Final - France 1-0 Holland (Trez header from a corner).
(And Italy beat England 1-0 for 3rd place. Hang on, Is there really a 3rd place play-off in the Euros? I didn't think so. Nah, there isn't..... I think.)

Oh well.
