No you don't. I used to wonder this in Pro 4 days, but I did a little test to check.

After a match go on a player whose stats improve and check where it ends up, remember a number for 1 stat (stamina for example). Next match don't check to see whether it has improved.

The match after that, go onto the player and quickly check whether the stamina stat is on a different one to the one you remembered. This happened to me which meant that the stats had gone up in the previous game despite me not checking.

Ive always done it that way and would like to know this question myself!.

If I had to guess, I would say yes, u need to check.
