Fallout: New Vegas [PC/PS3/360]

Autumn 2010 cannot come soon enough. I've been waiting for information on this for months now, and even though it has no gameplay information, i'm hyped.

New Vegas looks like a proper bustling city of lights and the dude at the end, carrying a flag of the state of california looks like war is coming to New Vegas, and it looks like we're gonna be dumped right in the middle of it!!

I love Sinatras version of Blue Moon in the background. Yet again another reason to play the game with the pip-boy radio playing =]

They deserve commendation for turning this game around so quickly if it doesn't slip to 2011. Well, as long as the environments are sufficiently different.

Personally I wouldn't care if it felt like a gigantic extension of Fallout 3 even though its nothing to do with that game. They share game engines so there will undoubtedly be plenty of similarities - I just think that's a good thing.

Obsidian Entertainment are involved with this one, they of Star Wars: KOTR, Neverwinter Nights 2 and the forthcoming Alpha Protocol.

Yeah, they didn't have to build the engine from scratch which is why the game has been quick in development. All the physics and engines and shit like that was ready made so that alone must cut out half of the development time.

The thing I liked about Fallout 3 was the vast wasteland. I'm hoping that as well as New vegas, we have a sizeable bit of wasteland to explore =]

The guy at the end is part of the New Californian Republic from the original Fallouts.

Yep, they're a group from Fallout 2 - no doubt my dad who played the first two will tell me all about them. I remember trying to play the original Fallout when it came out but being seduced by my on-going careers in Sensible World of Soccer. Can't remember if I ever did win the World Cup with Lithuania. Pretty sure I did.

Some astonishing games out this year, honestly. Mass Effect 2 already, Bioshock 2 due for actual release next Tuesday, Heavy Rain coming, Starcraft 2 later this year, this and I'm sure others of high quality I've forgotten (no, not PES).

heres hoping we start in a vault somewhere deep in the nevada desert. An uprising takes place and you save the day, but unfortunately, if you stay their will only be more trouble and death, so you are asked to leave.

You stumble out into the hazy light and heat of the desert wasteland with only a few robots and graves to in sight. Then you see it, at first it is only a spec on your horizon, but as you get closer, and the night draws in, the shapes and lights of new vegas become clear....

I imagine new vegas should be as big as the ruins of washington dc was in f3 and then there will hopefuully be the same remnants of civilisation in the huge wasteland around it =).

Gambling, the mob, war .......two uk mags will have world exclusive previews in on feb 11th, i'll be getting one lol.

Some scans and info;

There is an optional hardcore mode, the character needs to drink water, ammo has weight, healing isn't instant etc. Normal mode is more similar to Fallout 3 gameplay.

The storyline is focused on the New California Republic vs. Caesar's Legion vs. New Vegas residents.

Set in the Mojave wastelands. Vegas didn't get many nukes. More intact buildings, as well as desert vegetation. Vegas itself is mostly intact.

You don't play a Vault Dweller (or descendant of one) but a courier, left for dead and saved by a friendly robot.

There is a screenshot of a vault suit as well.

There is an assault rifle looking like the M4, as well as a new big gun with a backpack, held like a minigun.

There are special moves for melee weapons in VATS - specifically a move for a golf club called "Fore" which seems to be a groin shot.

Bartering is not just lower prices but negotiating for better rewards.

Followers can be managed through a context-sensitive menu, with orders like "follow", "stay" or "attack".

The Hoover Dam is in the game and is supplying electricity to the city.

There is a quest to rescue a ghoul from some super mutants. The ghoul can then become your companion.

The Geckos are back.

There are both dumb and intelligent super mutants, including the elite Nightkin.

Some super mutants look similar to the ones in Fallout 3, while others are new. There is e.g. a female super mutant with a 1950s hairstyle who apparently is one of their leaders.

Screenshots include a guy with a beard and straw hat, a ghoul an NCR Ranger

The only picture of New Vegas itself is concept art and not a screenshot

Some location screenshots include a huge model dinosaur advertising a hotel, some satellite dishes, an array of solar panels

A character generation shot showing a "vigour machine" instead of the skill book

NCR base is the McCarran Airport, Caesar's Legion is based in the Vegas Strip, while super mutants are based in a place called Black Mountain. There is also a town called Fremont and another called Primm. A topless reuve is mentioned as being in the latter.

NCR Ranger armor is similar to a brown combat armor with sleeves, there are concept arts of a Ranger

Skils have a bigger effect on conversation choices. E.g. someone with a high Explosives skill may be able to have a conversation about explosives where appropriate.

There is a Reputation system in adition to Karma.

Good - there were plenty of add-ons made which included a need to drink water and eat food so I'm glad this is being included automatically.

Should make for more variety with outdoor environments. Some people were critical of Fallout 3's wasteland though I personally loved it.

Gotta love those robots.

Good x 3

Nice!

Makes sense.

Hopefully they'll implement in the necessary detail.

Sounds good so far and the graphics look improved, from what I can tell. Area 51 should be very intresting to walk around!

Multiple Pants were jizzed in. my anticipation for this is now already level with that of Red dead Redemption!!

Just finished reading the 8 page article in PSM3. The companion system sounds great with about 8 different options that can be toggled on and off, plus the improved conversation system already looks great with the ability to use your other stats (eg- stealth, if you use your stealth attribute you can try and convince people to go along with your sneak idea for one mission, or you can use your high explosives attribute to convince people that using TNT to solve the problem is the best tactic).

Bethesda has announced a collector's edition for Fallout: New Vegas. The edition will be available for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 for $79.99, according to a GameStop pre-order listing and $69.99 on PC.

Bethesda still hasn't announced a launch date for the game, only saying it's still coming this fall.

Here's the break down of what's included in the package:

- "Lucky 7" poker chips. Each of the seven poker chips was designed to represent chips from the major casinos found on the New Vegas strip and throughout the Mojave Wasteland.

- A fully customized Fallout: New Vegas deck of cards. Each card in the pack has been uniquely illustrated to depict characters and factions found within the game. Use the cards to play poker, blackjack or Caravan, an original card game that was created by Obsidian especially for New Vegas!

- A recreation of the game's highly coveted "Lucky 38" platinum chip.

- A hardcover graphic novel "All Roads", that tells the story of some of the characters and events that lead up to Fallout: New Vegas. "All Roads" was written by Chris Avellone, the game's creative director, and created in conjunction with Dark Horse Comics.

- 'The Making of Fallout: New Vegas' DVD. This documentary DVD will contain exclusive video content, including interviews with the developers in which they take you from concept to creation and discuss topics such as story, setting, legacy of the Fallout franchise and more.

I loved Fallout 3 as you all know, but New Vegas is going to have to do something special to top RDR.

The only thing Fallout does for me that hasn't been captured or bettered in RDR is the whole atmosphere of the game, and also the idea of exploration. There was always something to explore, and the landscape was just amazing to investigate and walk round, with something to find in every nook and cranny, RDR does not match this.

Walking the wastelands in Fallout is often eerie creepy and even at times terrifying. Imagine happening upon two death claws with only a baseball bat at the dead of night. It happened to me, and I was killed instantly for my stupidity.

That being said, I still have high hopes for New Vegas.

edit - Oh and i'll be defo getting the collectors edition. I love my lunchbox and bobblehead, but I know i'll get more use out of the playing cards in this one!!

The introduction of deathclaws in more areas as the expansion areas were added heightened the dangers when wandering the wasteland which added a nice element I felt. Other things were tough enough but with deathclaws at random locations it made you have to pay so much more attention.

I have my faith in Bethesda - to date their only errors were in Oblivion but one of those errors actually wasn't one: they had set the story of Tamriel and its areas out in such a way that they almost had to use such repetitive textures in the various locations of Cyrodil. The other errors (lack of mounted fighting and loot drops running in parallel to your character level) couldn't be forgiven so easily, especially the latter :>

Bollocks, yeah I just realised it was Obsidian and then came here. Alpha Protocol is truly awful which suddenly became clear as the release approached and there was almost no news at all.

Hmmm.

Hardcore Mode is a welcome addition. We can do it through mods in Fallout 3 on PC but it'd be better not to have to go down that route.
