Fallout: New Vegas [PC/PS3/360]

Some good bits in the game but I just didn't think it was a patch on Fallout 3. It feels like an add on rather than being its own game.

An add on that has the likeliness of lasting 40 hours+? I mean i've already played it for near 5 hours and i've done fuck all really.
It is basically what Vice City was to GTA 3. They took the engine, streamlined things, made some things better, some things worse and in doing that they made another chapter in the series, but Rockstar knew it wasn't a sequel and thus they never numbered it, just like Bethesda and Obsidian have done here.

Its a fantastic game but it does feel like Fallout 3.5. The main story seemed long enough for me but maybe thats because i mixed it up doing all sorts of quests at different times, getting sidelined by different things etc.
The only thing that dissapoints me is The New Vegas Strip as it sucks that its broken up into different sections. I was hoping it would be one long strip of lights and strippers and angry drunk gamblers.

First time round of playing it I thought it was immense but by the 3rd time I began to realise it didn't have the longevity of Fallout3. I played that game (Fallout3) through about 6 or 7 times and collected every trophy and did pretty much everthing there was to do. Fallout New Vegas has some great new features and its better written but its lost the charm of Fallout3 for me. I think its because this was done by the original makers Obsidian - as part of the sale of rights to Bethesda.
I think Fallout 4 with the additions from Fallout New Vegas should be the best yet if they iron out the glitching - that and put it back in Washington or another city at least.

I wouldn't mind another east coast setting, maybe the state of New York. New York City could be the Washington of F4 and the rest of the state with all its national parks, reserves and mountain ranges making up the wasteland territory.

Perhaps. I think there needs to be a wasteland are though. It should definitely be less populated. F:NV seems to be too full of life, you never get the same feel of isolation.
How about L.A?

There needs to be more variation in the textures. Once you've seen one building, you've seen them all.

You hit the nail on the head there, what made Fallout3 so good was the feeling of isolation. I remember being blown away when I stumbled upon the BoS on my way to see Three dog because I knew nothing about the franchise or the characters.

Exactly. That's a reason why I'm not too keen on the companions - takes away the isolation. Also I HATE those fucking cadazors!!! :realmad:
After completing NV once, I don't feel the urge to do it again. I started it on hardcore mode, but haven't touched it for over a week. Having said that, it's not entirely NV's fault. Too busy playing LBP and Dead Space, AC:B and soon to be Killzone do doubt.

Yup, same as. I've started a couple of times and lost interest. That never happend with Fallout 3. Bethesda just did a better job with Fallout 3 than Obsidian did with Fallout New Vegas. Simple as. Plus why is the glitching worse on Fallout New Vegas?! Its mental!
Too right about the Cazadors, you literally meet them as soon as you leave Goodsprings. Its a bit lazy sticking apex predators in the game from the first level. At least on Fallout 3 the predators increased with you as you levelled up. Also, why in fook's name have the changed the XP? Theres no reason to play on very hard as the XP is the same on Very Easy! Stupid.

The glitching on Fallout is fecking terrible. They've seemed to have given up on patching it. It still freezes on me quite regularly, never had that problem with the last game, even with the supposedly very glitchy GOTY edition.

I have yet to meet a Cazador and I have played for 14 hours. Also, the xp may be the same on all difficulties, but if you want the challenge the option is there. The higher dificulty increases enemy damage threshold and hp and decreases the damage you give and your own threshold.
I play on hard because I dont want to be killing everything in 2/3 shots with a gun. I may play on hardcore mode once I finish my first play through.
ALso, to those criticising the replayability, dont you have to choose between the 4 factions at some point in the game? You have faction exclusive missions through the middle and end part of the game, so if you want to see it all you'd have to play through 4 times.
I still have done fuck all so far. Been spending my time exploring the west and southern parts of the map. I just love walking around, hardly ever use the quick travel function.
I had a few bad experiences though, probably because i'm still only level 9 and stumbling upon areas I probably should avoid until later, events such as getting raped by a group of 5 deathclaws in the mountains, being ambushed by 3 giant radscorpions and a group of regular radscorpions in the south west and being caught unaware by a blind deathclaw in the primm pass while looting a corpse. I really should've realised the amount of skeletons and skulls around signalled there was a bastard some where.
Spent an hour or so wandering the mojave with a prospector I stumbled across getting attacked by bandits. I fought them off and followed him on his wild adventure before he eventually was undone by a pack of coyotes.
Happened across a pretty amazing shoot out between about 10 members of the legion and NCR. Stood back and watched it unfold. One female NCR trooper was left and after looting all the corpses I turned to see a squad of legion recruits approaching. She had very little HP left, but they were armed only with melee weapons. I was not quite ready to piss off any factions, so I watched with great sadness as she fought like a hero, taking out all of them before being caught from behind by a legion hound.
In Fallout Canon, the West coast, especially California was spared from much of the devestation, so any game set in that area would be full of life and civilization. However, LA was completely destroyed and has already been featured in Fallout 1 after it was rebuilt and became one of the major areas.
The east coast was the main target, and New York would definitely have been bombed to shit like Washington was as it is a major economic area.
Remember that New York is a state, so New York City could be very much like Washington DC was in Fallout 3, it's own entity and confined and the rest of the state would be wasteland, like the state of Washington was in Fallout 3.
Theres so much variety in what New York State offers (mountains, national parks, reserves...) that I think it would be perfect.

You're lucky you've never met a Cazador, Jonno. They're a pain at any level. If you do see a bunch of them, try and get up on a rock so they can't hit you. The LMG makes pretty light work of them.
Giant Radscorpians are still a pain, but at least there is no pesky albino ones!
I met deatchlaws early on, and failed miserably. Just stay away from the quarry if you don't want to meet mummy and daddy

Was that NCR/Legion fight outside Camp Forlorn Hope by any chance? There is a big fight out there, many bodies to loot. Only problem is that it made that area very laggy for me.

Nah, it was by the Legion raiding Camp where they're holding the 2 powder gangers captive.
Just between there and the cave with the ratslayer Sniper rifle. Every time I'm in the area theres a dozen or so soldiers fighting it out. Saw another brilliant shoot out today where the NCR had a batch of recruits surrounded and looked to have the upper hand until a squad of 4 legion assassins stormed in with their machetes and wiped out the republic forces.
Good job I didn't have Boone with me as he'd have opened fire straight away. Can't get on the wrong side of the legion just yet.

Got banned from all the Casino's on the strip. Was actually quite easy, my character has a LUCK level of 9 so I just hit the Blackjack tables.
Alot of fun, I was averaging 20 with my first 2 cards and winning 200 caps a time. If I wasn't scoring 20 I was doubling down on my first two cards if they scored under 15.
Made about 35k in caps altogether, was expecting to make more really, the Ultraluxe let me walk about with just over 11.5k in caps. I'll have to rape the Atomic Wrangler and Vikki & Vance's now.

Agreed. I did like parts of the city though, rummaging through the remains of buildings & stuff made a nice change + I am bloody good at the computer hacking.
I tried starting again, but it just felt like the same game. I had the same with Fallout 3, the first time you see things it amazing, but on a second run through it loses a lot of it's impact.
