Just ordered this for PS3. £24.99 on Amazon. Bargain.

Not owned a footy game since PES6 on the PS2. Can't believe I've just bought Fifa.

I've also bought it without playing it or seeing it being played at all. It wants to be good.

Don't get your expectations too high for the game. The reason most of us have turned to Fifa is more down to how shit PES is and also the fact that you can actually play Fifa online. Fifa 10 feels a lot less rigid and robotic too; it's more fluid. Having said that, you will still encounter plenty of bugs and annoyances along the way.

Join Team PESGaming if you want to know what it's like to destroy other teams on a regular basis.

The two things that annoy me most are chipped and cut-back goals. Especially the latter. You can see it coming, but even positioning your defender(s) to intercept the ball rarely works, because the pass will just angle itself right for a simple tap in. It disappoint me when we do it for club games, but I guess it's for the team.

I don't see a problem doing it in club games as you have successfully got past the opposition defence and one of your team-mates has also got ahead of the defence. If he's in a better position than you, you're gonna pass it to him. If neither player is actually clear of the defence, it is quite easy to anticipate and intercept any cut-backs.

The anticipation is easy enough, but I find that most of the time the ball manages to get past either side of my defender, even if he sticks a leg out. It's probably to do with assisted passing. Anyway, breaching defences is relatively easy, with the way defenders react to through balls. I'm not saying that no one should do it in an Arsene Wenger sort of way, but it just seems cheap to me.

To be fair, this game is likely to surpass my expectations, simply because I haven't owned a football game since PES6. Regardless of how small the annual improvement might be, there've been enough years between to mean this will be a vast jump in my eyes.

This is the most important thing to me in a football game. In this day 'n' age of next-gen consoles, all I've wanted from a game was for it to feel 'real' - open-plan, if you like - so that it doesn't feel like there are 22 points of contact on the pitch and the ball is invariably attached to one of those points of contact at any given time (not necessarily actually physically touching a player, but through-balls and crosses have always seemed very robotic to me. You will never overhit a through-ball or a pass that then finds its way to another team-mate further wide - this happens so often in real-life, especially when teams are playing it across the back/midfield fours). I want the ball to be a loose entity and for the players to have to do the work to get to it most of the time - not vice-versa.

What is this whole Team PESGaming thing? Everyone controls just their own player and plays matches? What if you don't have a full team of XI? Do the other players get made up of real footballers or other PESGaming members who aren't online? Are they AI controlled, or do you switch between them yourselves?

What if I get subbed off? Or start on the bench? Do we play in a league with other similarly put-together squads? What if FIFAGaming.com come in with a big-money offer for me after I prove myself worthy - who handles my transfer fee? What's my percentage?

Also, I'm a centre-back who can also play holding midfield or at full-back (at a push) in real-life. I love defending and will be making my Virtual Pro player as such.

Say, for example, 5 of us want to play a club game. We go into the dressing room, then into one of our match rooms and the first user in the match room becomes our captain for the game. He searches for a match against another team - a simple press of the x button - decides our formation - usually either 4312 or 4321 depending on who is online - and most of the time the captain will control the ANY position. The ANY position means that he will control the randomly generated CPU players as well as the goalie and his own Virtual Pro. Everyone else will pick a position to play and they will be fixed to that one position for the duration of the match, unless they get sent off which leads to them either controlling ANY alongside whoever is already controlling them, or they will become a spectator.

You create your Virtual Pro offline and his abilities improve as you work your way through the accomplishments (when you first start playing you will probably sail through several all in the space of a few matches.)

There are no subs on or off in the game as otherwise BarnDoor wouldn't be on the pitch for any more than 5 minutes.

You can whore yourself out to FIFAGaming but I think you know in your heart which team is right for you.

Any more questions, let me know.

I think the reason PES is getting such a bad press is the online mode.
It could be the greatest game ever if it sorted out the online play.

It arrived this morning and I have spent the last hour or so trying to go round the 'keeper with Rooney in the arena thing that pops up.

Having not played a football game, really, since 2006 - wow.

I will play an actual match soon and create my Virtual Pro shortly and get involved. Just soaking it in for now.

I'm really sick of the speed whores who just use Torres etc. to run through the defenders, then LOB THE KEEPER!

Some guy done this to me twice last night with Benzema (who has to be one of the most overrated players in the game). Pissed me off. Still managed to beat him with a stoppage time goal from Zlatan. Felt good.

Joel, fancy some 1v1 later? Don't use Barcelona or Real though - the simple sight of Ibrahimovic and Ronaldo has me wanting to smash my TV up.

It gets worse when they score :faceplm:

I think that's the difference between previous FIFA games and the last two. Matches are much more interesting and you get emotionally immersed in the games. Even yesterday, I was jumping out of my seat when my opposition missed a sitter in the last seconds of extra time, meaning it went to penalties (which I won as Red Bull Salzburg v Real Madrid).

EDIT: Sweey, I feel the same, especially when I pick a shit team.

In my own mind I always reason that those two are supposed to be significantly better than Milan so its no shame if I lose.

Had an interesting game yesterday when a guy picked Pohang Steelers even though I was sitting on Milan. I went for Triestina and we drew 4-4 but I had three late chances to win it and fluffed them all.

For sure man. I don't really have time to build up a Virtual Player, so that is why I can't get involved in Team PESGaming at the moment, but 1v1 is fine for me.

I'm usually the second person who picks the team. So if I see someone pick Barcelona, I'm going to pick Valencia or Atletico Madrid (I don't play as Madrid online). If you pick Milan, I'll pick Roma. If you pick Italy, I'm going to pick France (I Italian supporters wouldn't want to lose that, so they'll try to play to their highest level). If somene was to pick Millwall, I'll go for Leyton Orient. That's just the way I pick.

I agree, Dragonfly. The worst is when you have a chance to level it in the lst minute, but due to the defender pressure, your player kicks it really soft and straight to the goalkeeper. A lot of bad words have come out of my mouth in that situation.

I've just gone through some shit results online. Drew 0-0 with Inter when I was all over them but couldn't put the ball in the net and then lost 4-0 to a cunt as Real and 4-1 to Chelsea (was 3-1 in injury time but I spent five minutes passing it between my central defenders and goalkeeper - Drogba eventually tackled the goalkeeper on the line).

Consider me fucked off :>

Joel, send me a PM on here if you're ready and I'm not seemingly around as I might be hiding. I can't play for the next 30 minutes for definite.

I don't mind being Milan against any team other than Barcelona and Real Madrid. I come up against people who usually play as United or someone like that and switch to Real/Barca just because I'm Milan - what the fuck is that about?

Are you going to be around in the evening, Sweey? That will probably be the best time for me, as my nephew is downstairs at the moment playing that new Mario game on the Wii.

Roma will do me fine. Put that useless donkey; Baptista in the reserves, get Perotta in the starting XI and we're good to go.

I will be, just not sure exactly when.

I can't finish for shit today - should've had at least 9 goals in those three games. Back later, off to have a paddy.

If you need to beef up your VP, just take him into manager mode. You can also 'cheat' using a VP as you can change his position and height and it will reflect into your manager mode. Bascially, if you're short on defenders for a game, change your VP to defence for a game as he should be a decent player by default if you play as any of the bottom 10 teams in the premiership (or into lower leagues)
