The one good think about fifa, whcih there have put in, is Players fall over when its raining!

But again, EA wil over-do it like they did which the "off the ball" and the nudgeing at the corners!!

Am i the only one that thinks the Fifa graphics are shite?

They are not dimensionally correct, you can see the polygons, might aswell be made out of cubes and whatnot.

Always nice to see the 2-D crowd aswell.

No mate I do as well

Yes Giggsy but its gonna be a very long time before they manage to put 3D crowds into a football game, especially with the amount of graphics megabites it must take up

Armed with a £10 gift voucher, I strolled into WH Smiths today and bought FIFA 2005. Don't worry, I went halves with my brother.

And I must say I'm presently pleasantly surprised.

All the things I was lead to believe are decent about FIFA are plain wrong. The commentary is terrible. The presentation is terrible. And the music is especially terrible.

But the gameplay: well, I can't believe it. I'm warming to it. I scoffed at first, bringing in the obligatory comparisons with PES, but once I got over the fact it isn't a PES, I started to enjoy it for what it is.

The controls are at times frighteningly unresponsive, even moreso than PES3 which I didn't think was possible, and there's been a fair few times I've made a glorious sliding interception only to boot it away straight afterwards with that one extra tap of :square: . And oh for the want of being able to switch :square: and :circle: ! If I were able, it would make the controls almost identicle to PES's. I didn't realise the tapping of :triangle: for sprinting had been eradicated and the double-tap cross had been introduced. It's all very PES-like. They must have seen the light.

Shots always go on target, that's another downer, but on the whole the gameplay has impressed. Passing is generally crisp, and through balls work far better than they did in PES3. And the pressing of :L1: to make the team mate directly in front of the player in control move into space is great. Static team mates is the one thing that has pissed me off about every PES.

Of course, having not played PES4, I'm comparing to PES3, and it's showing up pretty well. Say 7/10.

But in a week's time it's consigned to the bin nonetheless. . .

The commentary is cack.

It's gone for a really contrived deliberately unrehearsed-sounding feel that is plain awful.

I played with Galatasaray and Motty said, ". . . and Sukur is having a great game for Turkey today . . .".

Then there's the one entirely unnecessary question from Motty about how the game has changed since Ally was a wee lad.

It's awful. The presentation is so poor. So basic and sluggish.

well if its poor on fifa then god pes is like - pure shite, people make threads ont his forum about the commentary on pes cos theres so much shit, fifa on the other hand will have a couple of phrases mixed in with ALOT of excellent commentary

I always find that Fifa is ok at first, the novelty soon wares off though. As for this presentation issue, you say potato I say potatoe. I always thought PES was far better in terms of realistic looking graphics over Fifa, but others seem to disagree...

agree to disagree.

But please tell me you can see the deformaties of the players in pics of the opening post in this thread?

Ok I have played the Fifa 2005 demo on my pc, I have a good setup so the game played well. I must admit that the game is quite playable. Plays similar to PES in terms of passing and build up play now, and player movement is quite good. The Animation is fluid, and player response is much improved.

Graphically, well it's pretty good. Sharp colours etc The Demo let me play a short game, of one half, Arsenal V AC Milan. BUT, and with Fifa, there is always a but. The game itself feels a little strange, the players movement over the surface, still has that gliding feel, although not as bad as in previous games. Can get up and down the pitch relatively easy and break through defenders, but that could have somehting to do with the difficulty setting on the demo. Sprinting past defenders I found pretty easy to do, but again, could be a difficulty level issue. As for the game speed, it is spot on.

There are a few major flaws which let it down though and I will go into that now. Ball physics are a little strange, a little too light, like when you cross. Shooting is disasterous, hardly any control over that aspect, that you have in PES. Goals don't look that brilliant, as they do in PES, so the sense of scoring is still not that good, but celebrations arent bad. Best feature of the game is passing and movement, and for that I cant fault it too much. I stil prefer WE8 and overall PES style of passing, as the building up feels better, but here it is actually quite good however, this aspect is still a little too simplistic and has that repetative feel. For me overall, it still has that unnatural feeling that I have mentioned before. It's just something they seem to lack when putting the game together. You just dont get the sense of a big match feeling, and depth whilst playing a game, apart from the sound which is top notch, (chants are pretty cool)

Bottom line is, EA, have taken a bigger step and this game is an improvement on the last. I will give them credit and eat a little humble pie this time round and say the game is good. However as good as it may be, it still falls short of WE8/PES4s gaming excellence, which is the standard to measure against. I think I may backtrack a little and might...purchase the game, just for it's variety (leagues, teams etc)
