right i will write my review in the style you have asked, i'll start from the basics and review the game from scratch, including things that yes may not matter

fifa menus - they are a bit boring but it does what it should do it gives it info clear

pes menus - idk what pes are doing this year, and the past year, it did have simple menus, but this years is a shocker to be honest

fifa background music/sounds/commentary/crowd effects - fifas track list is varied an is really good, ther sound effects are also very good, cupl of weird screams from the players tho lol, commentary is fantastic, tho can get varied at times in that they talk about a goalkick wen its a corner as for the crowd, impecable really

pes background music/sounds/commentary/crowd effects - not always pes's strong point i admit, the background music is annoying as ever, i think they have the eastern gamer in mind as with ther menus, sound effects are also good appart from the thud of the ball, its too loud which makes the atmosphere of the game sound quieter and that the stadium is empty, commentary, also not always been pes's strong point but they've had enough time now to sort this out, the crowd effects are also good and an option which fifa doesnt have is you can add your own :D

fifas modes of play on offer - i think this is also good but which has been for some time now partly down to EA's licenses i agree, ther BAP mode is just as good as pes's BAL mode but lacks the freedom in some cases as BAL lets you move around the pitch more without losing points, as before the leagues, cups on offer are ther and are very good,

PES menu system - I feel its laid out nicely, but I wish you could use the mouse with the PC version, just like you can do with FIFA.

Background/Music/Crowds - Agreed, I have always said FIFA has the edge in this department. PES is however getting allot better on the crowd chants. Menu music is really annoying!

Modes - I disagree... Sorry. :) They both have there own unique modes. Be a pro you only get 4 seasons and its easy to get into the first team, Become a legend takes time, and you can play for 15+ seasons (until you retire). Moving around is not as bad as people make it out in BAL. You get two transfer periods in BAL, you don't have to move if you don't want too. Players in real life get moved around every time the transfer period comes around, but because there not "big" transfers, its all done behind closed doors and no-one takes any notice.

So would online play pull it back to 9-9?

And I've left so much of it quoted, because they're the points that either annoy me, or are just absolute garbage.

- PES has better faces/shape to the faces, yet Fifa gets the point.

- The bugs one. What happened to scoring from inside the centre circle on PES? And the FK bug where you can put it under the wall every time? They're not big bugs, are they?

- The crowds look great in Fifa. I've yet to see them in the full PES game, but not only are they almost non existant as far as sound goes, there's no way they look 10 times BETTER than Fifa's.

- What is the Lens flare?

- The gameplay one. Why does Fifa need polishing, yet PES don't?

- Referee's/linesmen. What the fuck? They look fine on Fifa, so I don't see how someone could give a point to PES for that reason.

- Match environment - It seems fine to me on Fifa this year.

---

I'll stop now, because some of these points made are beginning to annoy me. You're very foolish if you're going to go by this guy's scoring system to find out what is the better game.

FIFA linesmen never wave the flag whenever there is foul, corner kick, goal kick, or throw in. PES linesmen flag gesture is correct in every way.

FIFA gameplay AI really do needs polishing. The main problem is the GK. The AI enemy GK. They never rush forward, they don't time their movement right. I've always managed to lob the ball forward to my CF and the ball lands and a spot NEARER to the GK, but the GK just accepts his destiny.

Scored from center? Yes if you are playing against a friend with a broken triangle button on his gamepad.

p.s.: more point on PES: PES allows me to fine tune formation and tactics before every match. I've been waiting for FIFA to implement that but they never get the chance.

I thought you were a Liverpool fan? I get so pissed off at the Liverpool chants... mainly the "Oh when the Reds" sung with the most Yorkshire accent I've ever heard (speaking as a native of Sheffield).

the management mode is ther as an option but is pretty poor

pes's modes of play on offer - not much has really changed which is one of my gripes, the master league is ther as always but truthfully as good as it is, it needs an overhaul and something new, idk what, thats konamis job, but something to make it feel fresh, the BAL modes is excellent tho, thers freedom of play and is longer than the 4 seasons fifa has to offer, the champions league mode, well this is something thats not new in football games as the champions league has had its own official game, so i dont think i van give a fair opinion on it, but thumbs up to konami for adding a new mode in ther

fifas graphic/playermodels/physics/animations - fifa has always been infront in the graphics department, and again they are excellent, player likenesses vary tho, the player models are much improved this year, they seem more leen and human lol, tho still not perfect, physics are much improved also, players feel solid when they clash and fall down in a good lifelike way, the ball also move a lot better this year but is still not perfect, animatins are the same, fifa has a lot more this year but again thers room for improvement, players still flash a bit, but it does have a good 'player running' animation

pes graphic/playermodels/physics/animations - again not one of pes's strongfronts but they are not next gen, they have had time to improve them a lot more, i mean look at MGS4, just seems they have'nt put the effoert in when they obvs can, player models are still perfect as always, physics are'nt as good as before, ther seems to be a collision detection problem in the tackling or the refs shit as always lol, animations.........magic as always :D

fifa gameplay - MUCH improved! has to be said, it is possible to play a good game, tho it is too slow, the dribblings crap, and thers still a lack of freedom on the pitch but it is creeping in, also the tackiling is very good, tho ther is the odd shocker
the shooting has been improved but still room for improvement

pes gameplay - has taken a hit slightly but still plays a magic game, its fluid and thers freedom to play a game of football, it does feel a tad arcadey and that 'pass it to the fastest player and run' is still ther tho not as much as last year which is a bonus, tackling isnt very solid tho i feel, the shooting is solid as always but i'm not liking the finesse shot

fifa online play - they have treated us EA, it has to be said, at the moment it is unrivaled, from the auto updates to the 10 v 10 to the stability, to the modes on offer, credit wer its due its very good

pes online play - this tho improved, i feel they could have done more with, the BAL online is admitadly boring but at the same time its good to see it in the game as its something new, the stability is much improved

i wont comment on the keepers, ther both as bad and as good as each other

the bugs in both games, yes fifa has more, but pesseems to have a lot which it never really had

fifa 7/10 <<< online play beefs it up

pes 7.5/10 <<<< as i'm judging both games on what they have to offer i am knocking marks off for graphics

sorry i ment on fifa on the pitch it trys to pen you in and keep you in posistion wer as pes does let you roam the pitch

What does that have to do with me being a Liverpool fan? lol... I said the chants are getting better, before in other PES titles it was like going to a match with 50,000 people who's balls haven't dropped... I didn't talk about individual chants :)

Management mode - Sorry but you can only do one or the other. You can't put both into one game and expect them to be good, so we agree. :) As for managing, if I wanted to do that, Football manager is the greatest game for that, and I doubt any real football fan will disagree with me there. :)

Graphics - Agreed, but like I said, this is EA's No.1 priority as its one of the main selling factors. But their games don't last as long as others.

Gameplay - Couldn't settle with FIFA's gameplay which I why I never bothered with the game. PES's gameplay, I'm still astonished as too how far they have come, and how you can implement real tactics into a game. Whatever title, I have always been able to adjust and enjoy it. Even though I thought PES08 failed. Nothing is perfect but PES best suits my style of play.

Online - Konami made a big mistake removing the chat feature in 08, but I haven't experienced a single problem online with PES09. I can't talk for FIFA because I haven't tried it online. But what I can't say is, there seems to be allot of posts on the EA forums slating FIFA's online ability.

As you can see, I'm not a hater, nor fanboy. I just enjoy playing PES just like I enjoy playing CoD4.

i think most people on the fifa forums gripe is admitadly one of mine, that it does take a while to get a 10 v 10 started, but like i said its ther first year doing it so it can be improved and i'm sure it will

I was only messing, ha ha. But seriously, "Oh when the reds" is practically an insult to both Liverpool fans and Yorkshirites.

In fairness, if I had online, I would never have stopped playing 10vs10, it's such a good idea.
