I was just playing as Arsenal V Newcastle, Thierry Henry ran onto a through ball just past the half way line, chased by Steven Carr who was carrying an injury from earlier on in the game and was about 5 yards behind, still caught me up.

:realmad:

I am not really enjoying this, have put about 20 hours into it so far, after the initial wow factor of the first few games it is just annoying to be honest (am I allowed to say that?, and no I will not go and buy Fifa before anyone starts)

Another 4 hours tonight, what have they done?

Players - your players are like ice skaters, can be pushed over easy, no such problems with the comp though, Richard Dunne is quicker than Henry...

Chipped through ball, no need for it any more because it either goes to the keeper or you stumble and are not quick enough against the computer to reach it.

Shooting, it has some nice new animations for this, problem is they take that long to do you are either tackled or it ends up stupidly weak.

One on Ones, either goes to the keeper or wide of the post.

Crossing is mostly off now, cant tell the difference between a one tap and double tap cross, players do not move into position as they did in PES4.

One Two's - It seems when you tap L1 and play the first pass the player does not make the run anymore.

The comp seems to make it obvious it knows your next move, it can tackle you from behind, no free kick, you fart in the wrong direction and its a free kick.

I had the same gripes with WE8 and they tightened this up for PES4, I hope they do the same, my main issue is the speed, Henry in a few yards start against Richard Dunne and an injured Steven Carr should win, totally unrealistic.

Sorry folks, just my opinion, I am sure loads love the game, I just find it totally frustrating, I am winning the games as well so its not down to bad play, just feels like too much has been taken from the player for the sake of making it difficult as Pro Evo always has been.

I am totally with you on the speed issue, regardless of what some people say, Speed is a vital factor in the modern game... it's ridiculous to see slow and old players keeping up with known speed demons.

It's also plain frustrating that the computer seems to have the edge on you in similar situations i.e them attacking and you defending.. no such miraculous catch up for us....

Mate, based on my experince so far after braking out of my inherited gameplay style from WE8 series.

Another 4 hours tonight, what have they done?

No they're not. Phsyical strength differences are one of the features touted in this evolution.(eg. Brazil) No ronaldo or Adriano of mine gets pushed off the ball, whereas Ronaldinho/Robinho eat grass on contact. You gotta be more aware of your player' s strengths, and adapt different approahes when controling each one.

Chipped through ball, no need for it any more because it either goes to the keeper or you stumble and are not quick enough against the computer to reach it.

Agreed, some re-balancing needed here. But what i've heard is ++tech palyers lay it off better. They need to add loft and backspin again, IMO its too flat. Not as deadly as in WE8, but you still can get on to it, move earlier thats all.

Shooting, it has some nice new animations for this, problem is they take that long to do you are either tackled or it ends up stupidly weak.

Nope, not at all. Miss a lot more though. Actually I feel shooting is a bit stronger than before. Need to get the touch down again. Muscle memory is a hard thing to unlearn especially if you''re just coming off WE8:LE like me.

One on Ones, either goes to the keeper or wide of the post.

Yeah, they do go off more now then before. But it's not like it's flawed or anything. Maybe because we find it harder to score overalll, when presented with 1v1 and do miss; frustation creeps in faster. I'm optimistic, cause I've scored many 1v1's too. Put it down to one thing 'COMPOSURE' when shooting.

Crossing is mostly off now, cant tell the difference between a one tap and double tap cross, players do not move into position as they did in PES4.

Not off mate. Difference is single - farthest player. Dbl - nearest palyer. Add in modifiers such as R2, R1 , shot strength, player stats and it can feel totally random. But if you can practice with one palyer, getting the same mechanic over&over again) you can see the consistency. Difference is the default crosses are flatter trajectory now.

One Two's - It seems when you tap L1 and play the first pass the player does not make the run anymore.

Are you trying to do 1-2 (wall pass) or give-n-go. Which are slightly different IMO. Have you tried using R2 immed. after passing, this make shte passer set off on a run. 1-2's are used in close quarters, and they do work better IMO.

The comp seems to make it obvious it knows your next move, it can tackle you from behind, no free kick, you fart in the wrong direction and its a free kick.

I would like to see the CPU getting more cards too, but it's an AI. Forget defending a-la WE8. Rethink your defending, I bet you you'll cut down FK's. In prev versions we give awayfree kicks easily, knowing the CPU hardly ever puts one away. Try it in the new version and you'll be sorry. Also theres the new shoulder charge thing HOld R2-and use the stick to easy your poonent off the ball. Don't give away many this way.

Running alongside like in WE8, and pressing SQUARE or X, will get you in trouble here. I also don't give away FK's if I get my timing for the slide tackle right. But pls. note the slide distance is shorter now so you may need to re-adjust.

I had the same gripes with WE8 and they tightened this up for PES4, I hope they do the same, my main issue is the speed, Henry in a few yards start against Richard Dunne and an injured Steven Carr should win, totally unrealistic.

Wouldn't Richard Dunne be running like hell to catch up. ANd Henry having the ball at his feet, woul be slower than when actually bursting thru w/o the ball. In real life Henry actually kicks and runs after it.Have u try 'pumping' the R1 instead of holding it. It makes a difference, IMO.
AS for injured players matching fully fit players, you may be right. Maybe KOnami overlooked this. I havn't noticed it myself though.

Obi, not meant to disagree you totally, maybe if you play the game as have explained here might help you appreciate the subtleties in gameplay changes better. If not, I'm sorry to say you'll have to wait for a version that suits you. Foget about PES5 cause it'll just be the same. Maybe give WE9I a go next spring.

Cheers mate.

I play with United, and Rooney can't stand up to a single challenge, last time I checked he was a fairly hefty lad. Plus speed ratings have no bearing on the game. Your players are simply slower than the computers, regardless of who they are, and you will be beaten to loose balls/caught up on the break.

Don't know bout Mr. Shrek, mate (lol) but other hefty guys like Adriano, Vieri, Ronaldo seem to hold up well. Have had a look at his stats?

Also have you tried pumping the R1 for sprinting. If fell it does make a diff as opposed to Holding. Also variable speed running throws the CPU DF off. Momentum/acceleration is the key in this ver.

Yeah, the first touch is often far too heavy and when you try to nick it off them it's almost always a foul. I like that there's a lot of change in possession though.

I don't think so mates. Have you guys used the R1 and R2 in conjuction w/direction to trap.

R1 while trapping now pushes the ball off, and R2 trap gives close control. Also if the pace of the ball coming is too hard (over hit), sometime even good players cant trap it clean. (realistic) IMO.

Cheers.

I think you have missed the point... he would NEVER catch Henry ever.. even if he was in a car... also you obviously don't watch much Arsenal cos Henry always keeps uber close control.

Nobody can claim the speed issue is correct on this game... it isn't pure & simple.

I dont find anything up with it actually....when I have a player like Martins I can just breeze past players.

Well first off i can hold onto the ball with the likes of Ibrahimovic and i've had a few successful dribbles into opposition territory. The through ball i havent pulled off well with less capable players however the likes of xabi alonso can chip a ball into peoples path.

The likes of Gerrard and even Baros and Crouch can hold up the ball and use their frame to keep the ball while the likes of Garcia and Recoba are quite lightweight when in possesion just like in real life.

I dont understand how Henry could be caught? Playing with Arsenal Henry is great, you need to use the knock ahead move to get distance and also holding r2 helps because that uses your players strength to keep the ball. Just like if your using Keane of United, you can use R2 effectively to shoulder off the ball opponents.

This game is delicate and you need to really think on how you are playing, its no longer a simple pick up and play.

Im having a great time playing this game, the only fault of this game is the balls are crap. pelias 2 is good, finale is fine and the black and white f50 or whatever it is is fine but the rest are terrible.

i agree the game is too delicate to b hammering at button s or pulling off dribbles i actually play football and i must say that this game is more realistic than anything i have ever played in the past

I heard some people complaining about the AI being too aggressive. Well for me its the opposite. I have played about 15 games, and the cpu have never got one single yellow card, and I have never been rewarded a penalty.

Anyone experienced this problem or it is just me??

But I think the game is good, with some really nice animations. The AI just need a little tweaking before its perfect.

just like 2 say that theres always people moaning about the game when they first get it because they can't score 5 goals a game on 6* straight away. People moan because they are finding the game difficult when they first buy the game. Do u want a game that is so simple when u pick it up and play straight away?? You need 2 play it for a while and you will start to enjoy it alot like with ALL pro evo games. I havent got wining eleven 9 but i no wen pro evo 5 comes out, wen i 1st play it i will probly struggle like with all pro evos at 1st, but thats what i expect. I dont want it 2 be easy. So thats why people go on picking out the bad points because they cant run up and score 10 goals like they did in pro evo 4 BECAUSE THEY WER USED TO PRO EVO 4. get used to the new game and i am sure you will start 2 like it.

(i think am getin my point across lol)

I dont think they moan because they find it hard but they didnt understand that in past games you could easily build an offensive move with two clicks on the joypad but now you have to think and combine dribbles passing and one two s with sprinting you can no longer rush up the field with a player like henry and feel relaxed that nobody will keep up with him because he is fast.

This is good soccer is played with 11 men not only a fast player that gets the ball in the middle of the pitch and you just press R1 and in 2 secs you are facing the keeper one on one.

I think all those moaners are the ones that play on counter attacks using only fast players and arriving to to opposition post with maybe only two touches - goalkeeper- Henry - goal.

Wake up Konami

Have been playing the game for about 4 days now. Overall, very frustrating. You have to know each players strengths and weaknesses even to do simple passes.

I understand the effort of trying to make it more realistic which I think the the game is very close to the real thing now than ever before, but one thing Konami has to know not everybody has the time and patience to learn how the mechanics work. Konami has to think more globally. Make the game easier and more playable in 3 stars, and if the player thinks he needs more challenge he wiil take it to 4, 5 or 6 stars, then will be sweating his a** off even to make 3 decent passes :) You are just loosing your loyal fans to other games :p

Licenses... dear Konami; stop being so lazy, I don't want to translate every bogus name in the game. Are you telling me that you don't have the staff and the money to acquire the licenses?! You have a deal with Adidas now, much appreciated, but where's Nike, Umbro, Fila and the rest? I want to see my national team in it's national uniform, want to see real referees, want to see more stadiums, the time has come to think more commercially.

Want deeper Master League (and stop calling it the master league, and alos take out that gay "Master Leauge" voice thingie whenever I start the master league). Give me more managerial options, give me some staff, advisors, option to try to balance my budget by adjusting ticket prices, gimme a merchendise shop, all these little things that would make the game more realistic outside the field.

Fouls... The world is trying to make socecr more exciting by making more fast paced, less stops, and more goals. But in WE9, ever little contact I make is a foul, I get my player's a-- kicked and it's ok!!! I have no advantage over the ball whatsoever! I see ball going to my other player when my player is down, and the referee whistles, just let it continue for god's sakes!!! It's more like an NFL game now then anything else now! LET MEEEE PLAAAAYYYYY!!!!!!

Load times... I can preapre dinner for 8 while waiting for the game to start :) What happened there?! ever little animations take forever to load, if it's gonan be like that don't give the substitution animation i it's gonna kill the whole mood and pace of the gaem!

In conclusion, next time aroud, I don't want to see an even harder game, and a couple of animations. I need more reasons than that to buy game. You should be preparing to make the jump to a much powerfulk system (PS3), so don't give the excuse that "We're using the hardware at it's limits", cause you are not.

I have been a WE fan for almost 7 years now, and this is the most dissappointing switch I have made between WE games. I'll keep playing the game of course, try to get used to it, but I don't how long I can bare it...

Cheers...

Another Electronic Arts representative we have here.To convince you look at his join date. Its August 2005.Come on man, you joined the forum just to say the game is not fun to play? Are we blind ?You are definetely a fifa fanboy or you make propaganda for EA sports. The game is SIMULATION and thats what real soccer lovers want.We dont care about licences but about gameplay. For licences there are many patches. This WE9 is not just a game ,its real football taken into a computer game.Thats all i wanted to say.Dont get me wrong but enough with those libels against a such an awesome game like WE9.Thank you konami. Keep up the good work!!!
