First Impressions of WE9 - NO QUESTIONS.

WE9 is harder, too hardo almos. But remember that when the game is hard and you score a goal it gives you a good feeling.

The most irritating however are the shooting and dribbling. Im used too shoot alot about 10 15 a match, but its too hard too hit the target, let alone too score.

Im also a dribbler, very much. It seems i have to learn to pass around the ball more.

Well lets be honest there are not many footballers who play the game today that are known for there dribbling skills. You have the likes of ronaldihno C.ronaldo ect but in all fariness you dont see the likes of Lampard beating like 5 men before rasping a shot in. Lampard is more likely to go past one player and then have a crack. My point is Konami are trying to make the game as realistic as possible afterall we dont want another Fifa on our Hands.

IMHO if you play a few games and start getting frustrated and annoyed then no matter what positives are in the game you wont see them as you are not in the frame of mind to. You only mamage to see the bad things about the game (I remember doing this with Pro Evo 3 on the ps2). It is quite obvious to me from playing that the game has to be learnt and that is brilliant to me (think virtua fighter 4) as no new comer can come along and just beat you. Its like a skill you have learnt because you have put the time in. If people still want the arcade fun then keep a copy of Livewire and just play that when the fun factor needs a boost.

OK what to say, i'll keep it brief because i want to get back to playing. I've played about 10 games of WE9 so far, and i've won about 2 of them on ****. And this is coming from a person who won on PES4 on ****** in my sleep.

Ok gameplay: Frankly, it's amazing - it's easily the most realistic game in the series to date and if that is Konami’s goal then they have succeeded. Many of the one-touch passes just aren’t as accurate, and many of the slick moves i did in PES4 sub-consciously don't come off. You really need to settle the game down when you have the ball, hold it up and look for easier options rather than go straight for the money-ball.

I LOVE the pace of the game, and i love the fouls and refereeing, the way players tussle is just brilliant (i've seen 1 or 2 collision detection bugs but thats it) you get a real sense of emotion from it. The cut-scenes also add to this, the key to these is that they're not too shot or not too long.

Bringing me to the presentation of the game, which i have never worried about too much and PES fans tend to have live that way. But this version looks great, the build-up before the match is really good and the crowd shots and banners really build the atmosphere.

Anyway, obviously this is a bit of a one-sided rave at how well konami has done this year and i'm not pretending that it's anything else. Of course every year the release is not perfect and theres annoyances and bugs, but i'll leave them for another time.

I get emails about every 2 weeks updating me on Console and Game talk, I usually ignore it but now and again there is some interesting information.

Here is what they said about PES:

11 Aug 05 The simple fact is - and we know we've said it countless times before - PES is the best arcade football game ever. You can quickly dismiss any gamer's opinion if they say they prefer playing FIFA with a derisory snort and a rolling of the eyes, because they're so obviously wrong.
The great news for us true football addicts in the know is that the latest incarnation is currently being coded in Tokyo - and we have the exclusive first news and screenshots.


TERRY & THIERRY
Chelsea's cup-winning central defender and England International John Terry has already been signed up to be the face of PES5, but he'll now be joined by last year's cover star Arsenal's Thierry Henry - presumably in a rather cool face-to-face arrangement. As for the game, Konami promises that there'll also be additions to the official Italian, Dutch and Spanish league licences, although the company can't say (won't say) if that will include any from the English Premiership just yet.

However, we can confirm a host of new player moves, animations and game enhancements. The first is the weather conditions (now including snow - woohoo!) that will change during the match, and noticeably affect players' statistics - stamina, being the most obvious - and movement of the ball. You'll also have access to improved tactics and formations that will give you greater control over your team - such as, for example, the ability to set up a 'floating' player behind your two centre-forwards. Not literally, obviously.
However, the biggest changes come with the introduction of tighter close control for more intense one-on-ones. This means more aggressive foot-ins to steal the ball, better blocking and shielding, quicker knock-ons and faster turns on the ball. All of this will apparently offer you a faster, more intuitive experience, as you'll be able to read far better from the improved animations what the opposition is about to do, and react accordingly.

Other exciting innovations include more accurate heading, better through-balls and more powerful net-bursting shots. Plus, as promised to us last year by the producer Shingo 'Seabass' Takatsuka, the PC will have proper online implementation that will include the ability to set up leagues, world player rankings and international cup competitions.

As PES5 is launching on last-gen consoles as well, we're not expecting state-of-the-art visuals, but you can be sure that they'll be a vast improvement on the clunky PS2 and Xbox 640x480 fuzz-o-vision, with sparkly resolutions taking advantage of top-spec cards and monitors. We're pretty moist at the thought of a new PES, and with it due to hit the shops around November, you've got just enough time to polish up your skills. Look out world...

Played the game a lot more now and here are a few things that perhaps people may want to know

1) Through balls are not as accurate or frequent.By this i mean the number of times on pes4 when a through ball could cut the enitre defence out was unrealistic however now those opportunities dont arise too often.

2) The game is a lot smoother and the play flows a lot better than before. Also I have noticed that sometimes the game takes place in mainly the midfield central area where both teams just fight for possesion.

3) Its been raised on here before that Konami have ruined the tackling system. I would just like to tell everyone now that the tackling is brilliant and there's nothing better than when a opposing player is running at you full speed and you just appear out of nowhere with a cruching smash laying him on the floor clutching his ankle.

4) The X button cannot be used as much when tackling as you have to time your tackles. There are quite a few fouls but sometimes the ref just plays on with the advantage.

5) Goalscoring opportunities dont arise as often as before and you have to think and react quickly to make the most of them. I used to justpass it around the box on pro evo 4 and then smash it in with the open man but you get closed down a lot quicker this time.

6) Defending has become an art. Master it and you wont concede many goals. I feel I am a very good defender marking spaces as well as players its a joy to play when you can defend.

7) Central midfielders have much more influence on the game now with the likes of gerrard , Carrick , Lampard really being allowed to run the show.

All in all this is the best version of the game to date dont worry about all the moaners who are finding it hard and picking faults.

Yes, totally..... This version seperates the boys from the men.

I've played every version of PES/WE to the bone, I can call myself a pro PES/WE player, online and offline. I've got WE a week or 2 now, and I haven't played PES4 online anymore (actually I haven't played PES4 anymore since WE8LE).

Now I let you guys now (as the pro player that I am offcourse) how I feel about this game called WE9.

My first games were against a friend of mine (also an online gamer, and he's a great player) who somehow (no, I know, I'am not allowed to talk about it) got the game on the 2nd of August (while I was waiting for my version from Japan) and came straight to my home at midnight.

My god, what was happening..... We both were not capable of scoring a goal... It took a while before we could score a prober goal that was also intended to be scored. After a couple of matches with a 1-1 or 2-1 score we finally stopped playing like it was PES4. It is just not possiblek, I really needed to change my whole game. This was not PES4 and after the first pass in the game I knew it, felt it.

After two weeks of play, I'am not the player I was/am in PES4 or the other versions. And I don't give a shite... I want to own this game, because soccer has never been like this in a computer game. It feels real, it look real and it plays real.

You really have to build up your play, even against the CPU. Usually I never play against the computer, because I play against human player that have good skills. Defence is as good as it gets. If you know how to do it, you really feel like a king in your defence. You can really own your opponent, unlike in PES4. If your opponent is a good player, the mistake will be made in your defence at least twice a match, and it was totally out of your hands. That is not the case in WE9.

I've played some matches against the CPU on 6* and my god... The CPU is damned good. Still in offence they suck a bit as always, but they really join the match and wanting to win. They are amazing in defence and keeping possesion off the ball. But still they are easy to beat.

Things that in my humble opion are a great step forward compared with PES4 (not WE8LE)

* Free kicks are more easy, but not too easy, a bit like it was in PES3
* Defending is improved great. The way the players move, the way you can push a player away so he can't get passed you to recieve the pass, the slidingtackle is better now, it's great to time it like that so you keep the ball, leaving the attacker laying on the grass.
* Dribbeling is harder now and more realistic. It is not possible to dribble with Ronaldo passed and whole defence over and over again. It just feels more natural now.
* Injuries are great!! Players will stay on the ground after an injury, while the match continues. And when you play the ball out of play, the CPU will give the ball back to you..
* There is way more interaction between the players. You can bump against your own teammate, push your opponent away, things like that.
* Midrange shooting is great, is not too easy to do (was afraid that it would be a goal everytime after mastering it) and it really looks great.
* Through balls are not easy any more, it is hard to do and you will not succeed every time you try it.
* It is harder to score and I believe that it will stay that way, even when I eventually own the game. You really have to work hard to get a goal. You've got the be a good player who knows what the heck he's doing to score goals.

I just love this game, it's harder then ever but more realistic then it has ever been..... Can't wait to go online with PES5 with my friends from another site and see how they play this beauty... I want to see what the Dribble kings can do now with this new versions.

No more snagging the rebound right off the hop and simply tapping square to get rid of it; what happens a lot more in the new version is that you fire a shot in and it bounces around dangerously for a short bit before someone gets a proper handle on it.

I think a big part of this is that since possession is so much looser now, free kicks feel a lot more dangerous. Free kicks are alot more like WE7I (like PES3) as mentioned. I just hit two in one game, one from 28 meters and one from 30 meters (with lampard) and I was never able to hit anything further in WE8LE than about 24 meters. I like scoring the free kicks though, its makes you feel good to hit a long one and watch the reply. It just takes a bit of skill, and you gotta learn the player you are using of course. But its just alot more fun to actually make them from far now.

I dont know if anyone else has noticed this but it seems to me that I Control the game for short spells and get a bit of momentum going within the match during this time I can pick players out more easily and find it easier to get the ball back off the oppoenents. On the flip Side there are times when im camped in my own half sucking up everything thrown at me and the computers attack is relentless! It doesnt matter what I try and do they just seem to dominate for certain spells.

Im not too sure if this is a feature of the game where both teams seem to get their chances but it certainly feels a lot more realistic.

Just thought I would let you all know as well that fatigue does play a big part in the latter stages of the game and you can purposely set out to tire your opponents.

A great example: I was playing Brazil V Arentina in the Cop America Cup Final and was finding them hard to break down in certain areas of the field. I decided to put Saviola on the right wing and make R.Carlos run his ass off trying to catch me for the last half of the game. Both players became tired and slowed a lot = Me replacing Savola with Tevez and Brazil taking Carlos off and switching to a 3-5-2 leaving the flanks open which i then exposed winning the game 2-0 with some class headers from Crespo.

I've only played WE9 for a day but I love the improved animation. Give me a few more days and I'll forget about PES4 just like I forgot about PES3...
