so my first touches are HORRIBLE. there's nothing more irritating than to have a perfect passing run ruined because my player first touches the ball right into a defender's path. is there a certain way to get a better first touch? the guide that comes with the game says to just hold the direction you want the first touch to be but this does not work wel all the time. at first i thought it was cause my player's stats may not be up to par, but i even have horrible first touches with Henry! any help would be appreciated

Just remember this:

Direction + R2 is close turn but long passes or shots afterwards will be lacking.

Direction on its own, will control the ball in that direction, but closeness of the ball control is slightly compremissed if a defender is close by. Is good for leading a medium/long range pass. or a medium range shot.

Direction + R1 will knock balls a foot or two ahead of yourself, as to set your self up for a long shot ( or 'hard shot' - full bar should normally go on target if timed right after an R1 touch), OR to play it first time round an encrouching defender.

The same is kinda implied for when cheasting the ball. R2 will cheast it down to the feet for more direction control. Directional press only will play it to a passable distance.. and cheasting it with R1 will knock it way up into the air, perfect for a nice volley.
