Formation for Arsenal 4-4-2 vs. 4-3-3

First let me say I am a rookie on WE8/PES4 compared to many of you. I am just starting to figure out formation tactics and certain player combinations (like why Bergkamp and Henry work well together).

I noticed a lot of you like the 4-3-3 with 1 striker in center and two wingers. I have tried a formation like this and it worked pretty well but I noticed that with my playing style, which uses a lot of short medium passes on the ground with virtually no air play outside of crosses and resembles the real Arsenal's style a lot, I ran into some problems, like not always having enough passing options.

I'm trying out modifying Arsenal's 4-4-2 now because I found Henry works better for me with another striker like Bergkamp. So I moved the two midfielders out and up to be almost like wingers which stretches the defense almost as good as the 4-3-3. I am trying to stretch the field but still keep enough to always have the triangle option for passing in midfield. My two SBs are Cole and Clichy and I like to use them both in the attack bringing the ball down the side.

I'm wondering what formations other Arsenal players use and why?
Do other skilled players used the 4-3-3 or an attacking 4-5-1 with Arsenal or do you all "keep it real" and use the 4-4-2 liek Wenger.

As I said my goal is to stretch the field enough for runs but keep passing options and I found a modified 4-4-2 to work a bit better for me. Am I just playing the 4-3-3 wrong or what..

anyway, yes WE8 is an amazing game. I used to always play FIFA but I am SOOOOOOO glad I switched...

Oh and I don't use the complete real Arsenal roster.
I've brought in CBs vandenBorre and Kompany who split time partnering with Sol Campbell
and I had to get SWP for my midfield cause hopefully next year he'll be wearing an Arsenal jersey as he rightfully should =)_)

so its
clichy---borre/kompany---campbell----cole
------------Vieira------------------------
-------------------Fabregas-------------
SWP----------------------------------Pires
-------------Bergkamp-------------------
-----------------------Henry-------------
Reyes is my number one sub filling in for Bergkamp and SWP and Pires.

which seems to work better than

clichy----borre/kompany---campbelll------cole
------------------vieira---------------------
---------swp--------------------------------
--------------------------fabregas-----------
pires-----------------henry---------------reyes

I keep the original formation of 4-4-2.

........................Lehmann.......................

.....Lauren....Toure......Campbell...Cole.......

....Ljungberg....Fabregas..Vieira...Pires/Reyes.....

..............Bergkamp/v.Persie...Henry...........

Nice team you have there by the way, Kompany and SWP are 2 of my ML signings aswell ;)

In the ML, with a completely revamped side I sometimes play a 5-3-2 formation, usually consisting of:

.....................................Hildebrand...............................

...................Senderos........Chivu....Kompany...................
.......SWP.....................................................Clichy.........

............................Fabregas........Mascherano..................

.......................................Rosicky................................

.............................Torres..............Reyes......................

I sold Vieira, Campbell, Cole and Henry to bring in some funds
But I now have a super squad, with the likes of Bojinov, Owen, Frey, Sergio Ramos and Ledley King added to my squad.

In general, I find the 4-4-2 better though ;)

Welcome to the forums, enjoy your time here

Im a United fan but Ive always played with Arsenal on Pro 4. Try 4-2-2-2 (Basically a 4-4-2 with the wingers pushed forward)

Lehmann

Toure Campbell Senderos Cole

Pires Van Persie Silva Ljungberg

Hleb Henry

When you start killing people consistently 4, 5-0, you'll see why I use this. Push Ljungberg forward and make him a LWF, keep Henry as a CF, Hleb as a RWF and Pires as an OMF. Dangerous...... I need some tips on defending, I play tournament every Sunday for £150 and this new guy keeps outscoring me with Madrid. I score loads but lose 5-4 and 4-3 and it does my head in. Lehmann is rubbish !! Any tips

My Arsenal looks like this:

---------------------------Lewis---------------------------------
----------------Senderos-------------Kompany-------------------
---Ramos-------------------------------------------------Clichy--
-------------------Bergkamp----------Vieira----------------------
-------Pires-----------------Hleb-------------------------Reyes--
-----------------------------Henry-------------------------------

Lewis is simply the best keeper in the game because his 16 year old starting age is marvellous and his skills are almost all above 90 now.
Reyes should be a little bit more attacking then Hleb and Pires.

I like the way I can pass and make people crazy with my midfielders, giving Henry a great long pass is enough to score most of the time.

Try this:

- - - - - - - Lehmann - - - - - - -

- Lauren - Toure - Campbell - - -

- - - - - - Gilberto - - - - A. Cole

- - - - - - - - - Fabregas - - - - -

- Ljungberg - - - - - - Pires - - - -

- - - - - - Bergkamp - - - - - - - -

- - - - - - - - - - - Henry - - - - -

It's all about passing, Henry should be set to drift out to the wing slightly, A. Cole should run up and down the wing all day, give him normal defence with attack arrows going forwards and backwards. Bergkamp should drift from side to side and be the link up man in attack, with Gilberto playing a covering role while, Fabregas, Pires and Ljungberg do the running. Ljunberg should stay rather wide, where as Fabregas and Pires should dominate the centre of midfield, Pires can however drift out to the left to link-up with A. Cole.

That should let you play very much like a real life Arsenal.
