Formation help... (I ask very little of you)

I have this new 3-4-1-2 formation Im trying to develope. It offers smooth movement up from the back and through the midfield. But, as far as the last few passes or a long ball towards goal, it lacks. So what Im looking for, is a better attack plan. Here it be:

---------------CF---------------CF-------------
------------------------------------------------
---------------------AMF-----------------------
-----------------------------------------------
--------------AMF-----------AMF---------------
-------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------
------------------DMF----DMF-------------------
-------------------------------------------------
--------CB-------------------------CB-----------
---------------------CB--------------------------
---------------------GK-------------------------

Its a bit more spread out than that though. Both CFs attack straight with set on low def. AMFs attack straight with normal def. DMFs are idle with normal def. Outside backs have normal def and play covering while the Center back marks the closest striker with high def.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

-------------------------------------------------
--------CB-------------------------CB-----------
---------------------CB--------------------------
---------------------GK-------------------------

It really depends on the team you're using... But as you haven't sayed that, I'll assume you're on ML and want to build a team.

In my experience playing with 3 AMF is unnecessary, because in this game 2 players can easily cover the width of the pitch. However you can keep the extra if you're looking for some short passing set up plays.
Remember however that if you have 3 AMF the computer (or whoever you play against) will definetly cover the midfield with (at least) 3 men in center.
This will crowd the midfield and your team will loose the agility necessary for: as an example counter attacks.
You should play at least with 1 CMF to reduce the number of players upfront.

Other point concerns the 5 men midfield. Examine you're stile of play and ask yourself if you really need that much men in midfield. (I would never play 5 guys in midfield and just 2 on attack...).
So consider Zygalski's tactic!
It's very balanced with 2 DMF providing necessary cover for a 3 men defence, 2 AMF for seting up plays, and a strong 3 forwards line up.

what your not doing though is customing a role for a specific player. What i means you have your formation worked out but the roles that your player is playing can be very different. Im not going into these custom roles cause well mine work for me they wont work for you, find your liine up then custom a postion to suit that player. And instead of using two dmf try using a combination of a dmf and a cmf.

That worked really well. But my fowards didnt make any runs, but it still produced goals. I'll work it out with more arrows I guess.

Give your CF a forward arrow plus a diagonal forward one. And give both wingers forward and diagonally forward (inwards towards the centre forward) arrows. That should make them run. You should be able to give nice through balls to the wingers or chipped through balls.

And ignore that silly person.

I adjusted the arrows for an online game. The guy quit on me because I hit a high arc manual long pass into his box that bounced over his charging keeper right to my CF's feet, who tapped it in easily.

Thanks for the advice... Now, if only I could execute some decent cushion headers, I'd be all set.

Hi Murc!

I've been playing around with something similar to what you have there, but found the best formation for me to score goals with is the 3-3-1-3. (talking WE10 here btw).

It looks a little like this
Code:
----CB---Cb---CB-----
----------------------
--LWB---CMF---RWB--
----------------------
---------OMF---------
--LWF-----------RWF-
----------CF----------

You need pacey WFs and a tall CF and the goals will come when you play up the flanks.

Create a 2nd formation, moving the WBs and the WFs to SBs and SMFs to create a 5-4-1. This will help gain possession when on the back foot and make for a quick counter attack.

Nice stuff... will give that a shot too.
