Formations/Tactics For Online Play.

This thread is to help determine what is the best formation and tactics to use online. Of course I doubt one tactic will work against every type of player so maybe 2 or 3 are needed, depending on the actual ability of the player you are up against. So it would be great if people could post their ideas on what would work best for each type of formation. So...

Tactic A - To be used as a default tactic against opponents of same standard as you.

Maybe a 4-4-2 would be the ideal formation, as provides sufficient amout of defenders and midfielders? I think each player should be on Medium Defence, with maybe one CB on High, this will make sure there isn't a large gap between defence and midfield, and help keep the formation compact. Same goes with attacking arrows, i think only one striker, and the two wingers should have forwards arrows, to help keep a good shape to the formation.

Tactic B - To be used as a tactic against opponents of lesser ability.

3-5-2 could be a decent formation to play, as the 3 at the back should be adequate enough cover, leaving the 5 midfielders to run riot and help support the strikers. For strategy i kept the same from last formation, but C would also be effective for counter attacking

Tactic C - To be used as a tactic against opponents of great ability.

This should only really be used against opponents who are a LOT better than you. As you'll be on defence most the most part of the game it is essential when you do retain possesion of the ball, that you move it up to your strikers as quickly as possible. This is to catch your opponent out and nick a goal. The defence is very deep which makes it quite difficult to break down, although your opponent may try long shots so get your DMs to close an attackin player as soon as possible, never close down with a CB.

these formation look pretty decent, im going to try them online tonight im not a very good player so i;ll probably use C mostly. what do you think about setting these formation as the normal 1, formation A and formation B, do u think it will set the person your playing against off guard??

Look like good tactics mate, thanks for sharing. I use one similar to the 4-4-2 you have. I tried the 3-5-2 a little while back, but i completely lost the balance of my team.

The 4-3-3 one may be worth a try though. Cheers.

i tried this online and kept switching between formation A and C i played a pretty good player and beat him twice using your tactics, i found that even when he had possession in my half all id hav 2 do is nick the ball and when i was using C i had 3 on 3 and had a few counter-attacking goals, likin it so far.

I use a 3-4-3 with the defautl C-1 . It works well for applying pressure and blocking up midfield. The trough-lobs can burn at times though.

Danny1234567, can u make tactic picture with this guide?

Style of Play: Suitable for a balanced passing game, with a slight emphasis on
defence.

Key Strength: The packed midfield makes the 3-5-2 B1 very hard to play against.

Key Weakness: Your team can be a little slow getting forward; you need to hold
the ball up to give players time to join the attack.

CB: Many PES experts have long opined that a three-man defence is more reliable
and less easy to split with the through-balls than a back four. The centremost
man should be your defender with the best aerial ability, with pace being a
slightly more important attribute for the centre-backs either side of him. These
two act as full-backs when required, and should be used to intercept players
running along their respective touchlines.

RWB, LWB: Although designated as wing-back by default, there no reason why you
cant fill these two positions with side midfielders and change their roles via
the individual menu at Formation Settings screen. As they are required to cover
an enormous amount of ground along the touchlines, supprting both attach and
defence, a high Stamina attribute is absolutely essrntial.

DMF: A dange when playing against teams that use wingers is that your back line
can become very stretched. One way to prevent this is to use your defensive
midfielders to intercept wingers and side midfielders whenever possible. With
the centre of your formation being so difficult to penetrate, you will find that
most opponents will spend time channelling their play along either touchline.

AMF: Your attacking midfielder plays a pivotal role in your side, and will be at
the heart of almost every attack. Use him to thread accurate passes and
through-balls for your strikers and if you have space and he has the requisite
abilities to take occasional pot-shot from range.

CF: As you cannot rely on your wing-backs to get forward quickly for every
attack, your centre-forwards should also double as wingers on occasion. Run them
out towards either touchline, then supply your other forward and, more often
than not, the onrushing attacking midfielder with a cross, or feed it to a
wing-back to make the final pass.

Its worth mentioning that Seabass told us that the 3-5-2 is his favourite
formation. His PES Master League dream team – Its not based on stats, just my
personal preference – is as follows: Lehmann in goal, Salgado, Terry and Maldini
in defence, Stankovic, Lampard, Makelele, Camoranesi and Zidane across the
middle of the park, Drogba and Crespo up front, and Van Persie, Henry and Andy
Johnson as subs. Despite the slight Chelsea bais in this selection, hes actually
an Inter supporter...
