tbh all the things he listed in the review is the reason why i love pes, despite the fact that the last two releases are worse than the previous ones. the fact that the teams aint licensed etc. makes it more fun to play in my eyes, because then you can try and update the kits in respect to the season. all i want is for pes to up their game a little bit and just basically update it lol i dont care if it remains unlicensed just aslong as they try and regain what ever it was that made the previous games epic. saying that i wouldnt mind if they did have the official kits, but what you gonna do? lol

^They always fail when it comes down to fifa vs pes. They always give fifa as a better game when it clearly isn't.

On the next gen consoles it clearly is though. PES owned fifa all the time back on the PS2 days. But since the switch over to 360 and PS3, the PES series has left a sour taste in the mouths of those who have grown up with the game since they were kids.

Not with me it has not. Mind you I stopped playing consoles years ago as they dont have anything worthwile compared to a PC. Im not going to get in to a debate on console vs PC because thats an idiotic argument.

The PC versions of PES have always been a "cut above" imo. Even last year my mate bought PES 08 for PS3 and I got it for PC. He was totally pissed off that mines looked 20x better thanks to lifelike faces, where as his was the same basic faces of old.

People also tend to forget that there is only so much that they can do on consoles with the game, even with so called "next gen" versions. Add to that the one year cycle of development and the relative costs of a multi-platform title and your not going to get a "stellar" game every year. One platform will end up being superior as its the focus of early development and that tend to be the PC version.

EDIT* In any case ignore these so called "review sites" as 99% of there reviews are bought and paid for by the games publishers and in no way reflects the true nature of a game.

It does feel to me like they have made PES08 again and fixed a couple of annoying gameplay issues, which really pisses me off. I am really tempted to switch to FIFA, but my housemate might be getting a 360 and if he does he'll buy FIFA, so in that case I'll probably buy PES. I hate to say it but the graphics and other glitz in FIFA really drew me in. Playing at SJP and hearing the Blaydon Races makes the whole experience so much more immersive.

PSS,

You like the direction the game has gone in?? You kidding right? The realism of the the gameplay that made PRO great has completely vanished in the last 2 releases, forgetting the other numerous issues
(08 & 09).

Whether it's to do with trying to attract a new fanbase or whatever, the game has nosedived in quality. This isn't about licenses or graphics it's about the footballing experience that Pro once brought.

That is no longer the case, and for someone who says they have played the game for a decade i am astounded that you think this new direction is good thing for PRO.

As I mentioned, I have been playing for a decade, and when I said that I liked the direction the series has come, I meant not over the last 1 or 2 years, but over those 10 years, with the inclusion of the ML, development of players etc.

I was disappointed with PES 2008, but, as a PS2 owner, I have yet to play PES 2009, however, I have read that the main flaws are to do with the poor online play, which I don't use, and the graphics not being 'next-gen' yet, which, again, as a PS2 user, does not bother me.

So I am looking forward to this new PES, hoping that, as read, the problems with PES 2008 have been addressed, and that Konami continue moving in this same direction of adding new modes such as ML and BAL.

Anyway, the point is that you pays your money, and you takes your choice. If you don't like PES, vote with your wallet. Of course, if you still prefer PES over FIFA, dispite this "nosedive in quality", then that shows what a great series PES is, and how Konami has had the fundamentals right for a very, very long time.

EDIT: When I say that I was "disappointed" with PES 2009, I suppose the yardstick by which I measure that is that my marriage didn't get into trouble in Winter 08/09, as it did in 07/08 and 06/07 after the releases of PES's 6 & 5. My wife put it down to maturity on my part. I didn't correct her.

I'm quite happy with PES 2009 PC...

Last year I was disappointed with the PC version, but the PS2 one was quite nice (not having the game updated on PS2 does pose some strange advantages lol)...

Has anyone else noticed that certain reviewers can't wait to slate PES? I know it's not perfect but the gameplay is still brilliant and for Gamespot to give it 7.0 is a joke!

I swear Fifa have been handing out some gift baskets full of cash to half of these reviewers!!! I've played around 40 games on PES 2009 and I'm still absolutely loving it, and I haven't even started the BAL mode yet!

I can understand people getting annoyed at the lack of effort from Konami in regards official licenses and the shocking sound and crowd but SURELY it's the gameplay that matters and as far as I'm concerned it's great, not perfect, but still great.

Some of these reviewers just seem to want to slate PES for nothing. It's like they're finding problems that aren't even there!

Gamespot's 7.0/10.0 is a flippin joke and I agree with the people that say Gamespot favours Fifa. Half the things they slag PES off for are things I really like. Like the fact that you can edit all your own kits and that they're keeping Masters League the same. Why try and fix something that's not broken? Rant over.

Not to mention BAL...

It's amazing how it revolutioned PES for me...

Now I find it strange when you play normal matches controlling everyone.... it just seems un-natural... lol

I think you'll find it's only the past couple of years PES has been slated. Do you know why? It's because it's a shadow of it's former self. & has been relying on past glories for too long.

Actually a large factor in it is the fact that EA practically bribe review sites and mags to get a favourable score.

Like Konami & IGN for PES 2008? At the end of the day they both want you money.

Actually Konami were attempting to get a good review with placing IGN adverts in 08 but they obviously didnt give them enough to give it a glowing review. In fact the review it did get was imo over-rated for 08. That was a total shambles online, and one which I simply refused to play again after the first month of release.

But in essence yes they do both want our money, its just that EA goes out of its way to spend megabucks on advertising, glitz and publicity stunts for its games. I mean just look at Mercs2, that game is in a sorry state on the PC and so chock full of bugs its almost crawling out the boxes. And yet they did a publicity stunt in the middle of London giving away free petrol to advertise the fuel struggle in Mercs2. And this was at the height of the full price rises were everyone was feeling the pinch, and it caused chaos for those in the area.

Konami on the other hand take a more mundane approach by EA standards of just trying to make a good game first. You cant deny that PES still retains its franchise very well in a tough market place. The problem with it however is that to many of the core improvements that we would all welcome get drowned out by non-sensicle or over-played arguments, such as "last gen graphics" or "licensed teams" when everyone really wants a game that plays great first and looks great second.

Gamespot are a very reliable crowd which always get it right. A dissapointing review which has ultimately changed my mind on pes!

What the fuck do u mean 'changed ur mind on PES'

U have been saying it is shit every second post u make.

Anyone who sez PES 2009 (offline) is shit is a fucking tosser and deserves to have thier fucking head kicked in. PES 2009 is the (almost) the game we always hoped PES would turn into back in the PS2 days. Problem is that we are now in the times of the PS3, 360, uber Gaming PC. And the game engine is starting to look a little antiquated especially when compared with FIFA09.

However, at the end of the day its all about fun and PES is simply much more excitement and fun than FIFA09. ProEv gets it right where it matters most whilst FIFA waters it right down where it really needed to set things ablaze.

If u disagree with me then it is only cos u are a stupid cunt.

Possibly the best endorsement I have read yet.

As an offline PS2 owner, I couldn't be more excited about getting the game this week.

Ah yes...but I am referring to PC version.

PS2 version will be a practical replica of 2008 which was a near replica of PES6.

Because that's the maximum a ps2 can offer. But still pes 2008 was as good as 6 on ps2 and pes 5 was the best.

He is near enough completely right in the review. Its not until I watched this review, that I realised the champions league mode is just a cheap cop-out to make up for the lack of any game-mode depth in BAL/Master League or better graphics. Its sad Konami had to resort to what FIFA used to do during their early years.

For a next-gen console, the reviewer is more than correct to critisise the graphics. A score of 7.0 is solid. It doesn't deserve to be higher TBH:
My Master League (using defaults) lasted 3 seasons until I won the league (easily).
The champions league mode is just a liscenced tournament mode... without a lot of the liscenced teams... and without some of the teams.
There is a severe lack of online options.
BAL can get very tedious and lacks that little bit of depth to keep you coming back for more because its very repetitive. However, since its a new mode, we will come back for more because its still going to be very addictive. I just wish they expanded it so that online our players would matter more rather than playing versus the AI. Next year, hopefully they'll expand on it. I'd love a tutoring option where a player can teach you a special move. It'll give you incentive to join a team with for example Fernando Torres if you have a chance to learn a few moves off of him.

That sums up a lack of replayability compared to FIFA. I thought ML was good, but FIFA's manager mode is probably better. :(

I used to agree on how reliable Game Spot was but of late I've become sceptic after they have been giving games 10/10
Ive played GTA and no way in hell does it get a 10....yes its a fantastic game but how can u give a game a ten when it has animation and graphics glitches in some areas...plus it's graphics overall are not at the high end (i didnt play MGS 4 which they gave a 10 as well)

and then they review PES 2009 and their main squabbles are with animation, general graphics and presentation although they say that the game play is excellent. They also disregard BAL mode that is ultimatley boring...What? have they even played it??? BAL makes u feel like a footballer its not about accumilating score by holding the ball and making consecutive passes...its about ur overall perfromance and 9 times out of 10 when ur playing u know if uve preformed well or not and guess wht ur rating usually coincides

They give a game a 10 for playabilty for GTA yet pes 2009 gets a 7 for graphics and mind you PES 2008 got an 8or 8.5 last year!!!!!!
PES 2009 is miles better than 2008 and if your read both reviews ull see that they are saying better things baout 2009 than 2008 yet it gets a lower score??

I've lost faith in them ...seems like the only honest reviewer these days are the crew at PC ZONE! too bad they dont review ps3 game:(
