The problem with it however is that to many of the core improvements that we would all welcome get drowned out by non-sensicle or over-played arguments, such as "last gen graphics" or "licensed teams" when everyone really wants a game that plays great first and looks great second.

Well put...I agree completely we all want a game with playbility first and graphics second!

and then they review PES 2009 and their main squabbles are with animation, general graphics and presentation although they say that the game play is excellent. They also disregard BAL mode that is ultimatley boring...What? have they even played it??? BAL makes u feel like a footballer its not about accumilating score by holding the ball and making consecutive passes...its about ur overall perfromance and 9 times out of 10 when ur playing u know if uve preformed well or not and guess wht ur rating usually coincides

They give a game a 10 for playabilty for GTA yet pes 2009 gets a 7 for graphics and mind you PES 2008 got an 8or 8.5 last year!!!!!!
PES 2009 is miles better than 2008 and if your read both reviews ull see that they are saying better things baout 2009 than 2008 yet it gets a lower score??

Yeah... Aside from the 'corruption' that goes on with reviewing publications games reviewer are little cockheads and not to be trusted. Last year ProEv08 scored consistently higher than FIFA 08 despite being a blatantly inferior game. This year ProEv09 is the game that 2008 should have been, yet it is getting worse overall scores.

With games like ProEv, I think they are basically reviewing what they felt about last years game. Also, didn't like the 'life' he tried to inject into the FIFA review by wearing an England shirt and heading a ball away. Who told the droning little po-faced cock to do that? What is he trying to say to the kids about FIFA with this gesture?

lol no way. FIFA 2009 is really good. PES 2009 lacks depth. The ML is too easy. The online modes are lacking completley. BAL lacks quality (although makes up in length). The player movement and animations are NO WHERE near FIFA's. They simply are VERY repetitive. The AI seems improved but beating the AI is EASY. A simple double direction change will leave a leftback rendered useless. Cutbacks are still absolutley amazing on PES 2009. Aerial battles are nonexistant. Collision animations are poor. Advantage ruling is rubbish. The stats of players are TERRIBLE (see Torres, Reina etc.). Then ontop of all that, you can take into account FIFA's atmosphere, FIFA's commentary, FIFA's tricks [yes they are applicable in matches], the passing bar, better goalkeeper distribution [by far], the liscenes of teams/stadiums, the ADDIDAS Live League [which makes every weeks worth of games slightly different aka super Zaki vs. super Robinho], celebrations [which are IMO a great touch and give you a lot of enjoyment out of scoring goals], better music, the attention they pay to players stats, more lower leagues which makes career mode much more rewarding, a better quality BAL mode, higher difficulties [PES 2009 is too easy IMO], a more realistic approach to player movement [on PES, turning your back to a defender gives you way too much space] etc.

PES 2009 just has better goalkeepers [in terms of core principles of saving], better responsivness, better presentation for comparing stats, more obvious translation of stats to pitch [although kinda redunant when a lot of the stats are inaccurate], more realistic (NOT BETTER LOOKING) player models [although i'd debate this after seeing Torres] and probably slightly better shooting [debatable since PES 2009 has the baloon physics now ].

BTW, I'm not biased since I've played PES 2009 more than FIFA 2009 and I love the PES franchise. I'm just being honest. I don't think every single reviewer has been paid off. I simply think after giving PES 2008 a little leeway last year, they're not going to follow up with that again because they don't want to lose credibility for not being critical enough.

Oh, and please don't mention the PES patch improving the game because its basically just going to add a few liscenes/transfers. The FIFA patch will just fix a few bugs probably so both patches are fairly ineffective.

TBH I don't care about site reviews. I believe Gamespot especially have something with fifa. But anyway I do read people opinions more.

I dont think there is any doubt that there are issues of PES 2009 that need to be looked at & improved or re-vamped but the problem is that Konami have set such a high standard that over time FIFA has finally started to become the football franchise it should have been & that is why people are saying this years PES is shit just because EA have made leaps & bounds with this years installment.
PES 2009 is a very good game & FIFA has improved vastly aswell, but i dare say there are aspects which need improved on that aswell.
I would say both games are at the same level with both offering up different views on how the game should be played which means that pretty much all football fans should be catered for.
For me im sticking with PES as the new one is great & i love playing it.
But if other guys like FIFA more then fair do's, each one to their own & im sure they will be happy with their choice.

u cant be relian on other peeps for reviews. either rent it or play it at a frends house, because no 2 peeps feel exact same about a game, so trust your own judgemtns.
