A good racing game site, for comparing lap times:

http://www.racing-line.org/

Especially good for Gran Turismo, as times can be verified by sending an X-Port replay.
I've just looked on that site. I looked on Grand Valley times and I'm faster!! only by a couple of tenths. But that's still faster. Can you only send in Xport times, as I don't have one......

Might look into one after that description, which ones the best (for ps2) I think you have to bolt your coffee table down though for them to work.

Yeah they have to be pretty damn sturdy. They rattle all over if they aren't strapped down.
I've got a wooden frame my mate made special for me.
For PS2 look for Logitech, they are the bboys as Sony don't make one.
For PC look for Thrustmaster. Or maybe a Sidewinder if you aren't bothered about the F1 look.
I looked around for a while before buying. I've broke so many in the past, these have lasted though. There is a newer Logitech than mine, it's got a gearstick and its black. Getting that soon. I'll post some pics here in a bit. I'll find the ones I have and some others.

F1GP was the reason I brought an Amiga :) There was quite a few mods and editors made, I had one which showed split times, and another which recorded telemetry data. Amazing that a game that ran at about 9fps could be so addictive.

Some of Sony's F1 games haven't been bad, but the best PS2 F1 game I've played is Grand Prix Challenge by Atari / Infogrames.

I had those mods too. It really improved the game with the split times, and there was also different cockpit designs and engine sounds. And the editor was great, because you could update the car colours and set how competitive each driver would be.

As for sony's F1 games, i have never really enjoyed them. I find the vehicle handling too twitchy, and its difficult to race close to another COM car because you always seem to end up smashing into them.

I'm sure they only accept xport replays, and insist on seeing a replay if you get a top 5 time. It does guarantee real times though. Even if you don't submit a time, it's nice to see how you compare.

I entered a time for the GT3 S6 license (Dodge Viper, Laguna Seca): 1m15.371s only good enough for 11th.

I've been meaning to have a go at some of the other licenses but PES3 has ate most of my gaming time :)
