Sorry, but I had to make this post.

I've play in goal at semi-pro level so I know how a keeper should play. I don't want this topic to sound like I know every there is, I'm just stating facts!

What's really annoying me is everyone slating the keepers in PES. For me, if you slate the keepers, you know nothing about football.

The keepers in PES09 are the best that I've seen them. They make outstanding reflex saves, they will try to pick the ball up on the second effort if parried or fumbled. And they don't act like retards as they did in the previous versions.

I'm sure if it was too hard to score we would have topics like...

"OMG THESE KEEPERS ARE LIKE SUPERMAN! PES IS SHIT!!"

So the wannabe football players need to learn what a keeper should be doing before you make a judgement saying there shit. I'm not saying the keepers are perfect in PES09, but if they was, know doubt most people will cry about it.

I completely disagree, the keepers are not the best and if they were then it's a sad day for Pro Evo...

Every shot you hit that's on target - the keeper will 9 times out of 10 fumble it. The fact that you say you play semi-pro means nothing, I play at a higher level than that but it doesn't make my opinion on football right does it?

But if you think that keepers fumbling and dropping every other shot are good then I feel bad for your team

The keepers improved somewhat, but theyre still nowhere perfect. They let in too many goals where the ball goes VERY close by them (especially on headers from corners/free kicks), they still fumble way too much and when they fumble the ball, they do it right out in the penalty box, rather than trying to get it out to the side where its not as dangerous - as a real keeper would.

Ive got an example: In one of my matches a shot got deflected by one of my defenders, my keeper runs to push the ball so he wont give away a corner and he pushes the ball right back towards the penalty spot - leaving an opponent with a completely open goal.

Try a higher difficulty setting. Because the keepers I play against save most shots. In the past PES titles, the keepers couldn't even make top corner saves... Now they make finger tip saves, reflex saves and more... Every keeper fumbles or flaps at times, name me one keeper that doesn't? If you have played at a higher level then me, it doesn't seem like that with the way you slate the keepers.

Most people never understand what a keeper should be doing... They think, oh he's just between the sticks, he ONLY has to save the ball... Pfff if people new what a keeper had to do, most peoples opinion on this forum about keepers would change.

No keeper in the world can save headers from corners if placed right. 90% of the time is luck when a keeper saves from a corner. As for your story about the keeper pushing it back into play.... Some times it happens yes, but allot of the other times it doesn't. Just like we you have a player who you want to dribble with, if he has a low condition, he's dribbling will suck, no matter how good he's stats are. Well the same goes for the keepers. If their condition is low, they will make mistakes. Most people will pick a keeper on PES because of he's name, they have completely no idea what stats it takes to make a good keeper.

Buffon - Just because he plays for one of the better teams in Europe, he's all of a sudden this great keeper? No. He's over rated to the max. Toldo is by far the best Italian keeper. (Not the best keeper of all time, but the current best in Italy)

Cech - I can guaranty hardly anyone new about Cech before he moved to Chelsea, now because of he's name, everyone will go for him in their ML team. Cech is a good keeper though, not over rated.

Dudek - Could be one of the best keepers, won Liverpool the Champs League, then gets dropped. WTF! He pisses all over Reina, who BTW is over rated, always making mistakes. Dudek waits 25 games to get a chance, and he gets played against Arsenal, makes a mistake then gets sold... Stupid decision.

I didnt say "placed right" - I said, "ball goes VERY close by them" aka "placed in the middle of the goal". Ive seen tons of goals like that. Granted, I only play on regular - but still.

As for the bad rebounds they give; yes, it does happen sometimes in real life - but it shouldnt happen all the time, as it does in my games. I lost count of how many goals Ive gotten/given away because the goalie decided the best option was to punch a ball right back into the box, instead of out to the sides - and I know this because Im either laughing or crying everytime it happens, depending on what end its in.

You really need to play on top player. I've just started my ML, on top player! With 5min matches, fuck me its really hard lol.... But... The keeper you start off with, Ingnov? or wherever he's name is, he made some outstanding saves and kept me right in the game! I ended up grabbing a winning with a couple seconds left!

As for what you say about the regular setting, its not just keepers, every AI player is shit, they seem slow, they can't pass even if their life depended on it. So again, try top player because the AI improve drastically!

You can't play at a low difficulty setting and expect wonders from the AI.

Every keeper has he's moments. If you was playing at the level you say, you would take that into account. No one is perfect, human or AI.

look its ok to call the keepers in pes crap, cos they are, but its a game, maybe its hard to program a keeper to make realistic save without them either savin every shot or letting evryone in,
i play fifa, its the same on ther so its not just pes thats not got the keepers right, maybe its something that will be corrected in time

as for cech, c'mon, every self respecting football fan knew who cech was before his chelsea move, as for dudek, he was in the same league as buffon, just savin for the cameras so i agree and disagree with you ther, as for toldo yes he was ace

i have played at the level i say and i too know that every keeper has his moments but the keepers in pro evo have "moments" at every shot at them
i just wish they could hold onto the ball more and not dive, let it just hit them and then the good ol' tap in goal routine happens

I have said that the keepers ain't perfect, and they never will be, EVER! But they are the best so far by a long shot! PES6, cutbacks? No matter where you cut the ball back, it would always go in! Now? The keepers positioning is far better, and the cutbacks don't always go in.

I think your playing PES on a low difficulty, or your not playing the same PES I am. Try top player and see how much better the keepers are.

im not saying there terrible but i do see alot of the bugs from 08 creeping back into light with every game i play
i just wish the keepers would hold onto it more maybe its a collison detection problem i dont know

I disagree - I may have just seen more bad keeping than you. But keepers never come out to claim low cross across their 6 yard box on PES, and have punched away shots (that it would be easier to catch) way too often. Also some of the dives they pull off are unrealistically high... they don't make the AWFUL near post blunders from PES08 though.

So far I've experienced a few spill goals that are just aggrevating (in TOP PLAYER).

Some make sense. Like a very powerful volley shot at goalie followed by a spill 15 feet in front of him. Some are just medium shots that shouldn't be parried the same way as a cannon ball shot (Half of these shots are snatched right out of the air by the keepers). Konami needs to get the spill rate/distance to directly depend on the speed of the shot as well as some weather variation. This might be the case in their code but at least make it less frequent on medium shots.

That's the thing, because their simulated, of course they will fuck up. I may sound like I'm sticking up for Konami big time, but I honestly haven't experienced bad keeping anywhere near as bad as in the past PES titles.

You have to bare in mind its simulated. Keepers in PES can be caught off balance. Thus forcing errors. Just the same as passing, you can see the pass you want to make, but if a defender is blocking you from making that pass, and you still go for that pass, you will either play the ball behind them, or in front and it goes to the opposition.

It's crosses that go to the striker's feet when the striker is about a foot away from the keeper that pisses me off - I lost a vital game last season in ML because of it.

I too play goalkeeper (although not at the same level as you) and in fairness, coming out for crosses is my weak point - but if it was as good as my shot stopping I'd be playing for a club - my point is that it's appaling the things the keepers just watch - sometimes. However, it is more realistic than the punching of (particularly lobbed) shots.
