Gran Turismo 4: First Impressions

It's a very good game, but PGR2 pisses all over it.

I am slightly disappointed with the graphical improvements. I remember seeing early videos and being amazed by the graphical realism but the actual in-game graphics are basically the same as GT3.

There's some nice extra features, and I look forward to exploring them but my initial impression is disappointment, because of it's incredible similarity to GT3.

I can't see how anyone can be disappointed with GT4's graphics, they are awesome. The thing is, the graphics were nailed in GT3 so there wasn't much room for a huge improvement, but just looking at the reflections in the cars shows that progress has been made. And how anyone can say that GT4 is more or less the same as GT3 is clearly misguided (GT4 is only about £30, compared to £20 for GT3). There are about 400 more cars in GT4, loads more courses, the driving experience is miles better and the Gran Turismo mode is more expansive. And the main reason to buy the game is the Nurburgring circuit. Ive spent hours just doing time trials round it, thats how good it is.

I also have the Logitech Driving Force steering wheel, and with this there is no better driving experience for the PS2 - you just cant go back to using the joypad again.

*Disclaimer* I dont work for the makers of GT4 or its affiliates.

I have all the Gran Turismo games exept from the "GT Concept" and the "GT Learning Drive" Game.
GT4 is class, the graphics are better than in GT3 and the licenses are easier to pass. Got all my licenses know, now i can started to play the game.
Skyline still rules in GT4. A pitty we can't have this car in Europe.

got the game the other day by swopping 5 of my old games (plus got Pro evo on PC - got on PS2). It is grade A! love the older cars like BMW 2002 plus all the others and driving round in a ford ka just adds realism!

PGR2 is a good game, but its way too easy and arcadey...GT4 has soo much depth and realism it's scary. the nurburgring is great, can't say ill ever get bored of trying to learn that course.

I think the graphics are pretty much the best on the ps2 at the moment, there are more subtle improvements over GT3 like lighting and such.

Also, GT4 has the DMC de lorean from the back to the future films in, what more could you want?

i got my game for 99p at GAME in my local town. i traded in 4 old ps2 games and gave them 99p. i traded max payne 2, virtua tennis 2, lara croft & truy crime; all were crap so a bargain i believe.

They're good by PS2 standards... I dunno, maybe I'm being picky. I'm used to PGR2's stunning graphics and was expecting GT4 to be better. I know the Xbox is a better console and all, but GT4 has been released the best part of two years later and I remember seeing the jaw-dropping promo footage of the game.

And how anyone can say that GT4 is more or less the same as GT3 is clearly misguided (GT4 is only about £30, compared to £20 for GT3).

What? You're saying the difference in the games is the price?

The gameplay is virtually identical, the AI IS identical. Bar a few extra cars and some quirky driving missions it's practically the same game.

PGR2 is a good game, but its way too easy and arcadey..

I found getting all platinum medals hard... like a lesbian's nipples in a fish market hard. You're right about the arcadey feel... a Gran Turismo mode to modify and personalise cars would have made it an unbelievably good game.

yeah, i tried to do that, but they wouldn't take any football or wrestling games and I had LMA 2003 and Pro Evo 3. Good deal. I have virtua tennis 2 and think it's quality. career mode is weird as i'm beating everyone on every level in every comp, but still can't get higher than rank 63

virtua tennis is a good 2 player game if you can get someone who is as equal to you.

i got this game last saturday, its great, i love it!
im about 27% through it, i have unlocked all endurance races, which are much harder then GT3, i just need to do the "speical" lisance, i have done all beginner and only need to do one more race on professional to unlock extreme.
I have around 40 cars in my garage, including the nike car, the toyota f1 car thing, dodge viper, SLR, GT40, a 630bhp skyline, all the tvr's, all astin martins and much more!

Can somebody tell me how you can possibly complete the coffee break courses in within the time limits, to get either silver or gold?

Ruddy impossible

Can't get anywhere near it, and just get the bronze for completing the course in my own time. :p

I believe I have only got one gold, out of the 3 licenses I have.

Don't buy GT4, it's too much like GT3, if you have a bit of spare dosh, buy GT3 instead. I like some of the features of GT4 though, like the new 'cars' included and the driver controls (eg triangle = overtake)

....a man who clearly doesn't know what hes talking about.

p.s. my best time on the nurburgring is 8mins 15secs, but it was in a BMW M5 which is fast as fuck. Ive got that course nailed now.
