I will start playing this over the next few days but as I've not played the game before I'm not sure where to start. Are there any modes which you guys would suggest I try out to begin with? I really have no idea what to do.

The real crux of the game is in the GT mode, it also where the easiest races are and where you'll be able to build up a collection of cars for racing online.

Nifty has detailed the car purchasing options already in this thread, but not the racing format. The format for racing is pretty simple, select a level, chose a race & put pedal to the metal.

There is of course a lot more to do than just this, but it's the main part of the game and an easy way to get coin and cars.

I went and bought a bunch of cars from Nifty's list and now don't have enough to race modify any of them, let alone tune them. back to the drawing board or crashing my way through races to get some bread.

Racing is the only way to bring in the pennies!

The Special events are good way to earn cash and increase your level too. There are a few good cars you get through it as well if memory serves.

GT5 really rewards those with patience, Iron. No other way around it.

Don't sweat it Iron, the last thing we want to do is alienate people early on in this venture, so if it means Nifty & I have to buy a non-race prep Civic and compete like that, then so be it. There are quite a few who are new, or just getting used to this again, so you're not alone.

We can always get Nifty to cripple the PP on his car if he gets to far ahead :D

Oh yeah Fick, thanks for the museum gift. Only spotted it now

Your welcome mate.

Does anyone actively collect these? I've got quite a few (including a couple of duplicates) so if anyone wants them then let me know as I have little interest in them.

If we say that we are racing Honda Civics this Sunday, all I expect of everyone is that they buy the stock car. If you have the money to race modify it, then great. If not, just send it over to me (as a gift via GT5) and as a welcome present I will race-modify it for you.

That goes for everyone. 110,000 credits is chicken feed to me in the game (you'll soon all realise how little that is once you get going).

What time will we be racing? Also, is there a way of modifying a car without increasing the PP. I've got lots of money stacked up from winning races and selling cars so hopefully I'll send you my Civic if you don't mind

As far as I can remember, the only mods that don't affect your PP are suspension, gearing and drivetrain.

Anything that directly affects power or weight will affect PP.

You can always reduce the PP by reducing the power through the engine part of the tuning menu, but this also reduces the bhp, sometimes making it worse than just not upgrading the car in the first place. Alternatively you can add ballast through the body/aero section. This can be effective on certain cars, but again, will kill the performance if not handled very carefully.

Jesus CHRIST, what is the deal with MR cars?! Why are they so easily spun? I know that you shouldn't be flooring it at every opportunity, but it seems that these cars are so much harder to drive. What's doing my head in is that i've bought about 5 cars recently, and without even checking, they've all been MR, which means i've had to try and adjust to racing with them.

What time will we be racing?

I think we'll be aiming to start qualifying around 8:30pm or 9:00pm (GMT). If we aim for an 8:30pm qualifying start, which will last about 15-20 minutes, we should be underway racing not long after 9pm. Which means we'll be finishing our main event by about 10:30pm (I'll explain what this Sunday's event will be in a separate thread shortly).

If you've got lots of money stacked up, why do you need to send me your Civic?

I was offering to pay for people's race modifications if they were short on cash, so that they can get involved...not if they're flush!

I'm so bad when it comes to tuning - I modified this car too its full and it now its so useless. I can't brake without skidding and and its throttle seems to decrease. I can tune it myself but can I ask you a quick question?

What does a supercharger do as when I install it my car seems to struggle to change gear probably from the low throttle. Or is that because of that 5-speed or 6-speed transmission as I also have no idea what thats about. To be honest, I have no idea what most of the modifications do to the performance of your car

With the Honda Civic, all you should be doing is the following.

1. Buy the car from the New Car Dealership.

2. Go into the GT Auto section and select the option all the way to the right, called Racing Modifications. This option costs 110,000 credits and race-modifies your Civic.

It adds power, reduces weight, gives you a fully customisable transmission and a fancy paint-job.

That's it! You'll now have a Civic modified to the equivalent level. No need to individually buy any parts.

If you have already bought parts, fear not - you can just go and race modify it and it will make the standard changes. It is possible to further improve the car after race modifying it, but for the sake of everyone having the same set up, we're not adding anything further.
