Do you have vertical sync enabled? It stops the graphics tearing but also lowers the frame rate, so see if that makes a difference.

i tried htat with my 6600gt.. i dont really notice much change in FPS .. but the graphics has a small difference. looks better but i can safely say it doenst make my 6600gt lower in fps (well for pes5 that is..) but it does in FEAR of course.
