Yes, the best method to compare is to go to the team select screen, where you can see all flags, and then switch between RGB and normal mode, it´s much sharper and smoother with RGB :)

does the pc version run at 60hz?

it seems a lot faster than the ps2 at 50hz. when i go back to the ps2 version my passing is amazing because its slower and i have a lot more time to think about it! but i cant seem to get any fluency going.

i might have to get an rgb cable, they wont be that expensive im sure, and it sounds like its worth it :D

There's no need to have 50/60Hz option in PC version as your monitor works differently from TV.
Refresh rate is what determines fps.

Normal TV's, actually older TV's have Interlaced technology. That means that the picture on TV is changed 50 or 60 times (50Hz in Europe/PAL systems and 60Hz in most NTSC systems, including the American one), but the picture contains only every other horizontal line(ODDS) and the line between (EVEN) is left "empty". The next frame then contains only the horizontal lines missed in the last frame(EVENS). So, therefor in interlaced picture, at 50Hz frequency, the picture actually changes only 25 times per second (so its framerate is 25fps). (30fps for 60Hz)

There are TV's that have progressive scan technology.
In progressive scan technology, every picture contains everything, so therefore 50Hz progressive scan video changes the picture 50 times per second, having the framerate of 50fps.

That's how your monitor works. So the conclusion is, why the heck would you want bloody 60Hz option in PC version :)

Resolution on PS2 is 640*480. Most of the games are made for interlaced mode, while some newer ones have progressive scan as an option. Unfortinatelly, PES3/WE7 don't have progressive scan mode.

My advice is to get the RGB Scart and enjoy the game as I find PS2 version more playable than PC. :)
With RGB Scart, the game looks FANTASTIC!

Cheers.

Also I forgot to add that 50/60Hz doesn't affect the speed of the game at all.
Some people have posted that game is 10% faster than 50Hz mode. That is UNTRUE as the game speed depends on the clock not on the refresh rate.
If the untrue statement would be true, that would mean that everything in the game would be faster including TIME.
Stopwatch the time and you'll see that the game is EXACTLY the same speed, making previous statement untrue.

What some people got to the conclusion that the game is faster on NTSC 60Hz is probably because the screen is a bit "larger" since it has less lines than PAL 50Hz. That and higher refresh rate create a bit of impression that game is faster.

If you doubt it, bring your friends PS2 at your home and start the game stimultaneously on 2 PS2's and 2 TV's (one on 50Hz one on 60Hz) and you'll see what I'm talking about.

:)

Largely based on what was said on a previous thread:
http://forum.pesinsight.com/showthread.php?t=5536&page=2&pp=15

I got this PS2 DVD & RGB Scart Lead:
http://www.psxservices.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=25_30&products_id=143

Hooking the console up to an amp and decent speakers makes a fantastic difference to the sound quality. Even compared to a Nicam Stereo TV.

However, I tried to eveluate the change in picture quality by using the switch the adapter has between 'Game' and 'DVD' mode. It all went 'green sceen' on me!

I only got rid of it in one AV mode on my TV (AV1/RGB on Auto size) having switched everything off, swicthed modes on the lead again and re-booted the PS2 with a DVD film (Euro PAL).

In another of the AV modes that the TV cycles through (AV1/RGB in a 4:3 picture), it still green (movies and games).

Having half recovered from the problem, I'm reluctant to wade in again in case I make it worse and then can't re-set everything back to normal.

Have you any experience with this or similar devices? (The thing came with no detailed instructions, so I've contacted the supplier with similar questions).

Do you know anything about the proper use of the switch with DVD's or games?

Or, how I can safely clear the 'green screen' effect when it does occur, and stop it from being persistant in certain AV modes?

PES3's graphics are nice, better than 2.

comparing it to FIFA is a stretch, fifa's engine looks nicer by far. That not only because of licenses...thats just the bottom line.

Comparing WE7/PES3 to FIFA2k4 is a good comparison, but FIFA2k4 looks better. I think we can agree on the gameplay side...but yeah. Konami has some work to do, licenses would help, but thats not the only thing they could work on.

the ''through the boot thingy'' hardly happens so stop making it seem as if it is a daily routine for any pes3 gamer!!!!!!

Actually this happens quite regularly when I play my mate. I lost a goal from a corner when Davids went up to head the ball and it went through his face

Yap, that was my intention to do. To recopy my previous tread for Ashley Brunt.

Haven't had similar expirience with that problem, there are several issues you can take into account. Actual TV, dodgy cable, or settings.
I would go for original PS2 SCART cable and see what happens. Try borrowing from some friends if they have it.

Milosh,

Thanks, the original cable (red, white and yellow leads into a Scart adapter) gives a normal picture.

The supplier got back to me very quickly, and said it's difficult to say without seeing what's going on with each item.

But he did assure me that using the switch, to see the effect it has on different games/DVD's can't do any damage to the lead, the console, or TV.

He also kindly offered a refund if I continued to have any problems, but I said now that I know it's virtually idiot-proof I can test all possible settings against a variety of disks types, games and movies. AT the moment the setting for 'DVD' is the one that works.

One last thing for anyone else reading...

The sound through an amp + speakers is fantastic compared to running it through a nicam stereo TV: Games start of in the tunnel, where the crowd noise is muffled, then the noise really explodes when they come out on the pitch. The thing I liked the most is the low, drumming noise that starts to breakout during a half.

Very subtle little effects that all build up atmosphere, but I'd never been aware of them when using just the TV's stereo speakers.
