Good article :)

I particularly like the quotes:

"But after a weekend playing PES 2010 it has quickly became obvious that on the pitch – ultimately where it matters most, of course – PES simply plays the more satisfying and entertaining game of football."

and

"I ended my FIFA 10 review by saying PES had it all to do. Well, after a weekend with PES 2010 I'm very confident it has succeeded. Sorry to have doubted you old friend."

It's looking good :)

Alive in the superunknown
The game feels slightly easier though. I played on regular settings and won the Champions League easily – an 8-0 aggregate win over Man United was a highlight – by using simple tactics of through-balls and double-tap crosses. Whether this is ease is intentional – or maybe I'm better than I thought? - remains to be seen but regular players would be better off starting on at least professional level.

for me he shoots himself in the foot right here.

Haha let him play SUPERSTAR level.. then we'll see ....
When compared to previous PES an additional difficulty level is added as "superstar" so that is normal that REGULAR becomes easier when compared to prior..

BTW, in demo, I like Superstar level a lot... (WE demo) .. nothing is scripted. Everything changes dramatically... in one match I can beat 2-0 and with same team I can lose 1-0 afterwards.. Thats what I liked.. Everything is on ur hands and depends on ur skilll

Decent review. But it's a shame he plays on "Regular" difficulty. Personally, I think all reviews should be based on "Professional" or "Top Class". And if it is true that there is a fresh difficulty setting in "Superstar", then all the better!

Sounds quite promising and PES is going to surprise a lot of people. Only concern is that I hope it is not arcadey and more into simulation, as I don't want matches ending like baseball or basketball scores. I am curious what this superstar level is.

Superstar level is available on the Winning Eleven demo, (Japanese version of PES), you have to create an account for Japanese Playstation Store to download it

double tap cross. header. goal..

oh dear god:/ this is not looking good!!

remember he is playing on regular, which is a very easy difficulty. there are a number of videos of people playing on regular, and the A.I is poor, with bad positioning and marking thus making it very easy to get down the wing and cross to unmarked players.

don’t be a pessimist, i can tell you are one, but things are looking good so far.

i posted about keepers+crosses not mixing, with a video of my incapable goalkeeper...

i was hoping it would be a demo thing and get fixed for final, but damn it doesnt look likely.

double tap+header is almost a guaranteed goa. this is so wrong. it ruins the art of trying to play football...like with your feet and not just head in an easy header which the goalkeeper cannot stop every time u get thge ball!:!?

This double tap crossing-guaranteed goal was by no means apparent on superstar or top player difficulty on the we demo. The A.I made a decent attempt to mark and follow my strikers runs more on these levels.

Although i haven't played on amateur, regular or professional on the demo, the majority of videos out at the moment are being played on these levels and the lack of decent defending by the A.I is very noticeable. However there are some videos which clearly show better and harder to break down A.I.

Like in any game, the easier the difficulty you play on, the far easier the game is too exploit. I’ll be playing superstar difficulty from the off.

Do not play the same game all the time
On the football field, do you always to the same thing? For example, a striker always goes long for the ball, controls with chest, shot feint, finally shoots far corner?
According to you, another example, as a winger (side midfielder), always take the ball, run pass your man, center first post, header?

Where's the variety in your game? PES, just as FIFA, I believe, isn't enjoyable if you lack variety.

How you decide to play is up to you, no one else. If you do not like playing down the flanks, getting crosses into the area, then do not do it so frequently.

And if you cannot defend against wide players getting crosses into the area, nevermind take control of the necessary centre back and move him to intercept the ball, then you need to get practising.

I have had no problems either in scoring nor conceeding too many of the goals you're banging on about.

And everyone has an opinion on which form of attack is the most successful. Some consider it to be through balls. Some consider it to be over-the-top balls. Some consider it to be the fake-shot-round-the-keeper style. Some consider it to be placed-shots. Some consider it to be blasting an effort across the goal to force the goalkeeper to parry the ball into the danger area, for a potential rebound tap-in. It can go on, and on. Point is there are many varying ways to score a goal, and everyone finds a few that they excel at/have trouble with and perhaps then consider to be too easy/too difficult.
