Seriously though, this is the ultimate cheese in the game! In PES3 the "old one-two" was almost useless. 9 times out of 10 you used to give the ball away.
Not any more
Do a one-two from virtually anywhere inside the opponent's half (especially on the counter) and your striker will end up in acres of space. Quite satisfying the first couple of times, but after about 10 goals in 4 x 10 minute games on 4* it gets a little worrying. Brings back memories of the supa-doopa 1-2 in the ISS98/PES games on the PS1. Pass the ball & the receiving striker sprints into space like he's got a rocket strapped to his arse. ;)
Needless to say, I hardly use the move any more - well, only if I'm really in the shit - and I've only had the game 48 hours!
Anyone else noticed the same thing or has Stevie got a duff copy?
I'll keep my gripes about the game in this thread (also the better comments as well) if I see any that haven't been dealt with elsewhere.

P.S
A couple of the pitches are irritatingly, blindingly gaudy. There's 1 that has thin alternating horizontal strips of what appears to be hay & neatly stacked bird's eye garden peas.

Anyway, I'm off for another couple of games - provided the tube in me telly can cope with the colour contrast battering it's had of late!

I'm not sure about the One-Two as a move as I rarely use it, but I've noticed in PES4 first time passes are scaringly accurate. On 5* a few first time passes (including backheels) and I'd gone from my penalty area to theirs.

I like the first touches being more accurate. I conceded a corner against a mate and less than 10 seconds later I'd scored at the other end.

Will try out the one-twos later on.

Oh, & don't even bother tackling the opposition in your penalty box, even with :x:; it'll almost certainly end up badly for you.
Who's the meat-head at Konami who thought "wow, that slowdown, stuttery effect on the ground level goal kick animation really makes the game!". Or "lets really piss off people who wanna edit our default option file by making the players default to bald, even if you just want to change the hair colour slightly".
Still playing football with a marble. Nice. Choice of marble is very important. Not least because you need to select one that you can actually see on the "wide default" or "long" camera positions you need to make use of the admittedly rather lush new passing system.

i have found that through balls just in themselves can be crazily effective... if you play a two man strike force, with an omf sitting right in the hole as far forward as he can be in the midfield area.. and then use trhough balls you should get through on goal almost everytime, if you have a pacey striker..

Aye, but works well enough with Castello & Baroja on 4*.

Don't get me wrong; the game looks like it could really grow on me. I think the feel of it & even the graphics both have a slightly more "arcadey" touch to them. The edit mode was easier to use in 3, especially hair types etc. All the sub-divisions make it rather complicated to remember where all the types are.

Stevie-pass, huh? Nice.

stevieboy, well, either you and me got a duff copy or we don't... and the last one is more likely. That passing idea works amazingly often, even on 5* (depends what playrs you got, that is). Haven't tried on 6* yet, but I think it'll be a bit harder than on 5* since the players tend to respond and play way better than on 5*. But yes, like I said; you CAN, if not easily, do stevie-passes on 5* as well, probably on 6* too... Must test it soon.

Hmm... now that I remember... Anyone else who find it rather easy to do volley goals on PES4 (4* diff), or is it just me? There should be a fan-post or something in Konami's studios so we could send in suggestions and ways to improve PES. *sighs*

Anyways, I am off to finish my Liverpool ML file now...

By the way, nice and interesting observation, stevie.

I just wanted to add that I did find the passing outstandingly effective in WE8. In fact, I find it more frustrating to defend now and so much more easier to never lose control of the ball altogether since most of the players seem to be able to hold the ball very well, enabling you to dribble past many defenders with a breeze.

I did want to say though that tackling in the penalty area isn't too big of an issue for me though. Using :x: , i've played quite a bit of it since I'm collecting all the WEN and cups and stuff, and I still haven't had a hitch with defending in the penalty area. Hell, I've used :circle: every now and then too. What I am a little unused too when I started was how :circle: now gave you a controlled clearance rather than just an all out clearance though.

Either way, I know you are an experience WE8/PES4 player stevieboy, so I just wanted to say keep trying the tackles, they don't seem to cause too much trouble for me, although I must admit they cause hell to my friends and the computer too sometimes (but that's cause I am a bastard and like to hold the ball in the box then try to run around all the players who are determined to chase me =P ).

Time the tackle, adjust the pressuring to make sure you don't over do it and use the keeper, if not to save, then to put more pressure on the attacker to shoot when he doesn't want to. You know all this stuff, but it's just to reaffirm your confidence in the box. :)

P.S. I agree with sicktrain though, the best moments are always against humans... that's when the game really shines! :D

yes i couldn't agree more, i first exploited it in PES2 and it almost ruined the game, so i was relived to see Konami fix it up in PES3. but now they've gone back to it - it's ok though because there is still so many other improvements in no. 4.

and i tend to use a more complicated move, where you go :L1: + :x: with a RMF to the OMF/ CMF , then the OMF passes it to the CF and then you use :triangle: in the direction of the RMF still making is run - looks very sweet and its not very difficult because of the space available. Hope that makes sense.

btw the pitch is just shocking and when you do an english league a number of teams have it as their default.
