Definitely the same gameplay at least.

I started one with Chelsea but got confused with the whole league system. it seems they're regional now.

Something to do with licencing rights issues.
Apparently Oli Kahn sued Fifpro over his personal licence (maybe he thought the games made him look too ugly?! ) and maybe they had to stop using the German details since.

Anyone got an answer better than my guess?

Haven't seen this option.
No-one has mentioned it so I don't think it is in.
But you can do training in a real stadium once you unlock the option.

you can play indoor matches in the sapporo dome stadium (where england beat argentina in the world cup). i'm not sure of the in game name though.

You probably could set up 5-a-side on the training pitch, but it's still on the full pitch. Not certain though.
