Have any of you played both the pro evo demo and the fifa 09 game?

One's a demo, the other's a full game. No justice to compare i think...It just looks a FIFA has the edge this time though...Not the big surprise Seabass made us to expect after last years disaster. Or maybe it is but not in the way we hoped for. We can clarify that when the complete version arrives and then we can compare the games. ProEvo's demo revealed problems with the ball sound, graphics and goalies...Hope it's not the final version

yeah what really pisses me off is how Seabass made all these promises, and told us that they are building PES09 from the ground up, and so far it turned out to be PES08 without most of the flaws!

Original?

Just to clarify: The only real difference between the demo and the final version will be the amount you can do, I would quite possibly have a stroke if there are any major differences to the gameplay.

What do you think? How do you compare the two?

And mods, don't remove this. It's not a dig at either ggme, just want the opinion of someone who is willing to try out both games before making their mind up.

And tell me which you prefer and why.

Cheers.

I have played the PES 2009 demo (with the time patch for long games) and also spent around 6-7 hours playing FIFA 09 on 360.

My first impressions of PES 2009 are:

Yes, they seem to have fixed many of the issues that plagued 2008

Yes, the graphics are excellent and the game does play very crisp

Yes, it is no doubt the best PES game ever released.

However, it is still just PES. Same old game engine with the same utterly aggrevating outfield gameplay limitiations whereby the ball can only be passed along the ground on predetermined AI controlled trajectories with the same old static/mechanical (non)movement of your team mates. Furthermore, since the AI engine is patently the very same engine powering the series for years, I am in absolutely no doubt that all the same old frustrating lame shit that has been driving veteran PES gamers knuts for years (at least since PES4) will still very much be part of the game.

To sum things up. If I had never played PES in my life and PES2009 was my first exposure to the game then I would be blown away by it. Problem for me is that I have seen it all before and have spent years in vain hoping for certain key improvements to be made to the game which of course never happens

And FIFA09. (Next Gen)

I have one friend in particular who swears FIFA08 was an immense footie game but I personally could never get past the agonising lack of responsiveness in the game and am still of the opinion that FIFA08 was a pile of bland boring shit (although certainly a more solid game than PES2008 was).

So first thing I noticed about FIFA09 was that the responsiveness was almost as sharp as that of ProEv but with 5-fold the volume of realistic gameplay influencing animations. So with the 'responsiveness' demon out of the way, I was prepared to finally give the FIFA series a proper chance and have to admit am now utterly hooked on FIFA09. Unlike PES, the games AI engine mimicks the flow of the real game with a lot of depth and variety often giving the player a feeling being in control of a real football team trying to outfox their opposition.

This is a very liberating feeling when compared with the midfield gameplay of PES that basically demands that you play ping pong along the ground with the ball until u get in and about the opposition penalty area. For example, on FIFA09, if you check your radar and spot a man in good position 20-30 yards away but behind a couple of opposition players, then it is a very real option to play high lobbed pass accurately to this player and then when the player receiving the pass comes to meet the ball (under pressure or not), you then have a whole range of control methods at your disposal for winning the ball and redistributing it and/or advancing further up the park. In PES, any veteran gamer will be able to tell you that aside from that odd predermined high ball sitation, most attempts to play any midfield pass other than a low pass along the ground will most likely result in losing possession of the ball.

Verdict:

Whilst PES2009 is the more potentially 'exciting' of the two titles and at least in the final third of the play, has that edge of your seat excitement quality that FIFA is yet to fully discover (and copy), it is essentially running on a 10 yr old AI engine and the outfield gameplay feels very limited and and uninspiring to say the least. On the otherhand, FIFA's outfield gameplay has outstanding depth and variety which in my view more than makes up for attacking/finishing aspect of the game feeling a bit watered down when compared to PES.

Playing PES2009, I just get pissed off by the same old gremalins that have beend riving me insane for years. Playing FIFA09 on the otherhand leaves me inspired by the realm of possibile routes by which I can play the game and generally compelled to keep playing 'JUST ONE MORE GAME'.

Whilst it is not perfect and certainly has it flaws FIFA09 is simply the best footie game around......BY A FUCKING MILE!

I am not sure what the problem at Konami is but Seabass and Co seem incapable of making the transition from PS2 days.

From whay I've seen, it looks miles better than 08 and nothing like 08. It's more like pes 6 and 5 with updated animations, dribbling, etc.. And obviously graphics.

Great Post.. I've read many Posts from you and I find them accurate..

Anyways, judging by the comments, PES09 haves both the Graphics and the Gameplay, that's a 1st for me. Yes it is the same Old Engine -but- we never really had good Graphics.

So it's nice to hear that PES09 is the 1st PES to offer good Graphics to go along with good Gameplay.

And I agree.. Konami needs to come up with a New Engine for PES 2010 -otherwise- a LOT of fans won't feel the need of buying PES 2010.

And as for FIFA09, played the demo today -and- I find it an enjoyable game, certainly better than any other FIFA -but- I steel feel I'm using the same players all the time, I just don't feel any Difference between players.

The FACT that every player pretty much feels the same + the embarrassing Faces -it- ruins the Gameplay experience for me. I think FIFA will be a great game once the game starts to further Define the "Differences" between each player.

That's WHY games like PES5 are still better than FIFA09, you can Feel Differences between players -and- that's what Football is all about, a Collective Game in wich Different players work as a Unit.

It is impossible to have a TEAM when all the players CAN be Effective in every Position.

People said a lot about this year's offerings.. but I think 2010 will be more Decisive; FIFA is getting there after a million years -whereas- Konami is still stuck in the PS2. One way or the other, chances are we'll get something NEW and Improved for 2010.

Plus, by know it is Obvious -but- Konami is well aware of their situation, they know they cannot keep going with the same Old Engine. So 2010 should be an interesting year.

Does anyone else feel FIFA 09 looks nice and hooks people for awhile but will get boring in the long run? It just doesn't seem to have the long lasting fun element that I believe PES 2009 has.

@ Amateur.

I have always been one of those people that have always thought that PES has consistently looked 'nicer' than its FIFA counterpart regardless of the general consensus in previous times of FIFA having the graphics, licences, presentation and PES having the gameplay.

This time around, although FIFA's animations are 5 times better than in PES (where the players are still running around like robots), the first impressions of PES are that it is much 'crisper' and also more appealing overall to look at than FIFA. Having said that, FIFA looks by far the most realistic game of soccer.

You do have a point regarding the differences between individual players being very hard to notice in FIFA and this is another aspect of the game that PES wins hand down in. But whilst things like that are nice and add to the overall appeal of the game, for me the depth and variety of gameplay in FIFA coupled with the now very responsive and intuitive controls is the hook of immersiveness and sheer enjoyability that it has over PES2009.

This is on FIFA 09 btw.

I was playing a game before & had a corner as Manchester United. Ronaldo leapt like a salmon & hung in the air like he did when he scored against Roma. I came in my pants.

I have already stated that in the final third of the game, i.e. Attacking & Finishing. PES is way more exciting and alive than the comparatively watered down FIFA. U will score goals on PES that makes you cream your pants on a regular basis.....only very rarely (if at all) on FIFA.

Whilst PES does do certain stylish animations very well, you only have to look at each game play for 5 seconds to know which looks more like a video game and which looks more like a real game of footie. The depth of animations becomes even more apparent when you are playing the game and realise the array of gameplay options that those animations open up.

I played the PES demo today, 1 game and that was enough... too similar to last years game for me, the series frustrates me now, it's the 3rd installment on next gen consoles yet none of them seem that 'next gen' !!

just been playing fifa 09 and all i can say is wow. The live update is so realistic. Spurs are terrible to play as at the moment.

Gameplay is superb, players play like their reali life counterparts and it simply is breathtaking.

Won't be long for a pes fan to call me a fanboy.

FANBOY, FANBOY, FIFA FANBOY, FIFA LOVER.

Only kidding!.

Bought Fifa 09 today. First fifa ive bought in 5 years. Quite suprise how good it is - 11v11 online is brilliant and is worth the purchase. PES though still has the edge in gameplay. Fifa is just a bit too slow paced for me - seems too much of a sim. Its not what im used too after playing PES for so long - which is more faster paced and more arcadey. You always seem to be on your toes in pace with your heart in your mouth as you race in or work for that goal. I dont get that with Fifa.

I was happy with the PES 2009 demo. The gameplay is back to the way it should be. Its fun again after last years disaster. Cant wait till release date!!!.

The presentation and licences of FIFA with the gameplay of PES would be the perfect football game.
